Burglar wore ankle monitor

| 24/12/2013

(CNS): A man who had reportedly burgled a condo in the Prospect area was spotted breaking into a car at a condo complex in the area at around 8pm Monday night, sources have told CNS. However, he was disturbed by the owners of the complex and hid in some bushes, where he remained while they and other residents kept an eye on him until the police arrived. But when they got there, the suspect, who was seen wearing an ankle monitor, fled and eluded capture by jumping into a canal and swimming away. The officers and police dogs searched the streets adjacent to the canal for the suspect without finding him but the search revealed that a condo, the owners of which are currently off-island, had been “completely ramshackled”, according to one source.

The source told CNS that near to the car that the suspect was seen breaking into was a pile of items thought to be from the burgled condo and it was believed that the suspect was trying to steal a car to transport the stolen items.

The RCIPS has confirmed that police officers responded to a report of a burglary in Prospect last night and that the K-9 Unit was also deployed to assist in the search for the suspect, who remains at large.

I wonder if some of the posters to this site actually think before they write and/or read after.  I get so tired of hearing blame fired at our Commissioner Baines for these robberies.  If a genuine concern is felt and you feel that complaining to the Commissioner of Police is to blame, then go to him.  He is a man that you can talk to, if you stop the mudslinging and give him a call.  It makes me wonder if the the persons doing the postings are benefitting from the robberies or not.

The RCIPS apologists are notably silent on this latest debacle.

Guess they can’t blame the public this time!

    Where was the helicopter?

I hear Baines will be getting another thousand cops, 4 helicopters with air to surface missiles, 7 tanks and carte blanche to read all of our email. I’m going to make life simple for him next year, I will mail my underpants for sniff-test before washing them and I promise to apply the peanut butter BEFORE the jelly.

the 911 center or whoever is in charge there needs to be held accountble for this slackness

Can the police please take swimming lessons!.

May as well fire them all if they can't catch a person with an ankle monitor on plus they had dogs for tracking.  Something is wrong with their tracking abilities and/or the dogs.  Maybe it was the robber's dogs? Something not right with this story.

Ankle monitor versus suitably qualified monitor monitor.  Situation normal.

The Offender monitoring system here is not working because the system is outdated now and also the entire law needs to be re-done.

What a complete discgrace.  The cop was unwilling to swim a little to catch a criminal athe public had detained until thier arrival.  If he's that afraid of a little fish, that explains a lot about what's happening in Cayman.

    Who is monitoring the monitor?

  12. Sea Urchin says:

Mr. Eric Bush some one fell asleep on the job. Sounds to me the residents did more of policing than the RCIPS. They should be put on the payroll after all, the Commish has a good budget!

I believe the word is "ransacked" though as a result the condo may well indeed be "ramshackle".

And who is "monitoring" these prisoners on the ankle monitor?, the same that are monitoring the CCTV?  I am sorry whoever was suppose to be monitoring the ankle monitors should be held accountable for the burglary of the complex and be made to reimburse the victims!!!!!!!

Hahahaha I was just going to post the same thing!  I love how CNS has it in quotation marks.

I'm starting to like this new word…ramshackled

  14. Anonymous says:

Well, well, well. Isn't that something. He is wearing the infamous ankle tracker but can't be caught. ONLY in CAYMAN!!!

  15. Anonymous says:

Well, this should be an easy mystery to solve given the professional resources monitoring parolees, right?

  16. Anonymous says:

This is not good news for those in favor of ankle monitors rather than lock up, this is the second time that a person wearing an ankle monitor committed burglar, these are reasons to be concerned .

    Something wrong with this Picture….

Residents confined him, in the Bushes, and when Cops AND Dog get there , HE ESCAPES????

  18. Anonymous says:

    LoL

That’s the only reason the RCIPS was able to catch them.

Hopefully the fact the burglar was wearing an ankle monitor will mean the police can identify him and track him down. Perhaps, if he is caught, he could be kept in jail next time where he obviously belongs.
