Rabbit hunter misses target
(CNS): A gunshot which appears to have been accidently fired into a Bodden Town residence saw police quickly on scene Wednesday afternoon. However, it appears that the intended target was a rabbit and the licensed firearms holder shot at the home by mistake. Police officers went to the house following the report by the home owner, who said a shot was fired through his window. But an RCIPS spokesperson confirmed that preliminary enquiries quickly revealed the shot was fired by his neighbour who was hunting for rabbits. Police said no one was injured and the hunter had a licence for his weapon. However, the circumstances surrounding the incident are still under investigation.

Ummmm…no. A rat is rodent but there are many rodents that are not rats. "Rodent is defined as "any of various mammals of the order Rodentia, such as a mouse, rat, squirrel, rabbit and beaver, characterized by large incisors adapted for gnawing or nibbling".
Agoutis are very good eating. They feed on root crops such as potatoes and cassava.

What does the law say about discharging a firearm in a residential area? Seems to me that there are good reasons for prohibiting firearm dischrages in such areas as, not to mention around schools.

Reminds me of a friend in the UK who was out ferreting. He mistook his ferret coming out of a burrow for a rabbit and shot it. New glasses cured that.
On a more serious note. Rabbits are not nice little cuddly animals, they are destructive vermin that have be controlled.

Verry upsetting.
I work in the Bodden Town area at a place frequented by tourist and could hear the chopper overhead that day. Yes, we also have agouti in the surrounding area and some selfish and foolish person use to come in to "catch" the agouti when staff left our location. Sometimes staff would find evidence of a trap and others times evidence of a gun being used. The tourist enjoy seeing the agouti eating and playing in the area. They do not come to hear gun fire and choppers buzzing the area. If they wanted that, they would have joining the US Army and went to Middle East. They are here on vacation to enjoy themselves, not be scared to death.
I do not understand why or how this behaviour can be allowed to occur by a person with a licence firearm. While I have no problem with an honest and intelligent person having a firearm with a licence, I would encourage the RCIP/Judge whoever is in charge of this to please take it away from this man before he kills someone.
You know that feeling when you tell someone to stay off your property too many times and they take you for granted. Do you know how it feels that you are imprisoned in your own home and can’t leave just because you have an approved gun on the premises? In fear of it being seeked out.
Perhaps and just perhaps there is more to this story than meets the eye. Either way. I’m sure somebody got the message, silly Wabbit or not.
Living in Cayman for the past 15 years and I have never seen a rabbit. Not saying they aren't here but pretty rare. Sounds like a tale (pun intended).
Come to my yard in Bodden Town and have an morning or evening parade of rabbits feeding, playing or just frisking around. Don't know where you are living but I see them every day.

Man gets his gun out, man aims his gun, oops man hits inside his neighbor's house…has anyone ever seen a flying rabbit? How did this mean hit inside his neighbor's house? Nothing probably will happen cause it is who the person is who has the gun….this man could have killed someone, if he couldn't distinguish the inside of his neighbor's house to a rabbit who can't be more then maybe 6 inches from the ground up…RCIPS needs to take his gun away from him..he is a danger to society and especially to his neighbor

So killing a human is ok? Rabbits are usually seen as a pest and need to be controlled, mind you not sure why he was firing towards a house, unless it was from a distance and didn't realise..
19.25 what about the chickens and iguanas? They are a nuisance and health hazardous with poop all over the place. The agriculture department or government are not doing one crap about the problem. So I welcome these hunters gladly to my yard to deal with the issue. Until government place a proper eradication policy, the chicken and iguana hunters are welcome.

We might be missing the point here. Perhaps the house is very small and shaped a bit like a rabbit.
I thought that it was an offence to discharge a gun within 150 feet of a public road – licensed or not. Happily this time an innocent bystander in the neighboring house was not wounded, or killed.

Revoke the licence now. Period. The fact that he has a licence make it even worse because that would imply he has had training and and is proficient in weapon handling.
You cannot miss a rabbit and hit a window…unless the window was lets say 6ft lower than the target (unlikely unless you are firing around Mount Pleasant…) or the "rabbit" (note the use of speech marks..) was 7ft tall. Maybe it was a Duppy ?

The "hunter" is obviously reckless or incompetent; probably both. Obviously the "hunter" is a menace to society.
Revoke the license.
Licenced or not, if the weapon is being discharged in a residential area, at minimum, the perpetrator should loose the license, all weapons, costs for property damage, and pay a community penalty. It is only pure luck or bad aim that the headline wasn't different. It should go without saying that folks without maturity or common sense should not be licensed to keep firearms.

As a gun owner and hunter myself I find it difficult to believe that this gun owner would make such a foolish mistake. He is going to get his gun license revoked for this foolish mistake.
