Alden to escape political pressure on Sister Islands
(CNS): As things heat up for the premier on Grand Cayman, Alden McLaughlin will be taking a short trip to the Sister Islands at the end of this week, where he can take a break from the pressure over his u-turn on the election commitment of introducing 'one man, one vote' and single member constituencies. Facing considerable controversy here after Friday’s near loss for government on the OMOV motion and taking flak over minimum wage, the support for a road through the Mastic Trail and a potential serious split in his government, officials said McLaughlin will lead a government delegation to Cayman Brac and Little Cayman on Thursday for a two-day tour with a full agenda.
A reception and public meeting will also be held at 6:15pm on Thursday at the Aston Rutty Centre.
“I am looking forward to spending some time with our residents on Cayman Brac and Little Cayman,” said McLaughlin. “We have a full agenda with several meetings and I welcome this opportunity to talk with people about the issues they face on our other two islands,” he added.
He will be met on Cayman Brac by Deputy Premier Moses Kirkconnell and District Commissioner Ernie Scott. From there they travel to Little Cayman for a tour and meetings with the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, Fire Service and a discussion. On Thursday afternoon the premier returns to Cayman Brac, where he will meet with the Fire Service and workers at the Public Works Compound. A reception and public meeting will be held at 6:15pm at the Aston Rutty Centre.
Friday morning the premier will tour Cayman Brac Police Station followed by a meeting with the RCIPS. In the afternoon McLaughlin meets with staff at the District Administration Building, Heads of Sections and Social Services. He will also tour the Kirkconnell Community Care Centre and meet with Scott.
Travelling with the premier, who returns to Grand Cayman Saturday, will be his senior political advisor Roy Tatum, the press secretary Tammie Chisholm, the community affairs chief officer Dorine Whittaker, and the home affairs chief officer Eric Bush, as well as the district administration chief officer Stran Bodden.

They have all renegated on their promises and sold us out. If you all think they are worried about Caymanians getting jobs, I have news for you. After the conversation that I had with a certain MLA, I won't be voting in the next elections. Why? Cause all they do is sell us out to the highest bidders. The foreign rich people that they give all of their concessions to will hire more foreigners and Caymanians will get one or two token jobs to shut them up.

I am really surprised at those who speak so disdainfully about the Premiers travels, and yet not a sound on when the Governor travels. Like the present Government or not they are the Government until they are removed. People should be protesting more strongly on issues such as Caymanizing the Tourism Industry, minimum wage, employment education and inward investment, reduction of fuel duty etc etc.
What is this two day agenda? Is it necessary to travel there? How much will it cost? There are telephones and Skype you know.

This is almost as bad as BritCay giving $15,000 to a bloody HR Conference! and you wonder why the cost of living is so high on this island? overpriced Health premiums forced onto workers by way of law, put in place by a spendthrift travel-every-day government. Premiums automatically taken from your paycheck and you barely have enough after CUC, for lunch money for your children.

Except that robust professional development initiatives that promote and teach cutting edge practices, such as the HR conference in which you see so little value, are part of what sets Cayman apart from its offshore competition. They also and help the development of Caymanians and to attract needed professionals from overseas, and yes, since there aren't enough HR professionals here, Cayman needs to import some of them, too. If BritCay sees the value in supporting a cause that promotes progress in the private sector, what matter is it to you? Corporations don't only have to give to the charitable causes you like you know.
Is this what my un-Godly over-priced Health insurance Premium is paying for? to import your so-called HR professionals just so you can help another Expat get a job? puh-lease!
I want to take this opportunity to say that when the Priemer is in LYC he will see even upon landing, why the rest of us are jealous of their relaxed free spirited way of life. Love over there!

With the amount of travels our premier is doing now a days , the government should just purchase a plane similar to Air Force one and have little teenage mutant ninja turtles act as secret service. Apparently you are not aware that Cayman Brac and Little Cayman are part of the Cayman Islands. Is it really unrealistic to think that the Premier would want to acknowledge their existence?
As for Tara – the last time she was seen in West Bay public since May 2013, was in December 2013 when she had some bouncing castles for the kids – what a disappointment she is – living in her high rise condo and having not a clue about what is going on in the real world.. But next election soon come bobo.
The UDP made a big mistake by not running Kora Grant in last year election; she would have beat out Tara who is too arrogant and cocky. Kora has always been a big favourite in West Bay, a down to earth worman who associates herself with everybody. At one of the meetings where she spoke, she showed so much passion and the crowd embrace her like they would Big Mac. She still at da bank, so maybe dats why.
Cora would be fool to leave the bank for politics – I know her she the assistant manager, second in command to the VP. You dont get that far up the food chain by making poor decisons.
Leaving RBC for public service would show that she truly wants to dedicated her life to serving the people of West Bay. My family of 6 would vote for her – hope she does run, and I really dont care which side she runs on, she got my vote. If she can run RBC she can run the country. They say she is the best manager there, always looking out for others, and makeing sure Caymanians r treated fair.

Alden until we get our people working in more than construction, domestic, and Govt jobs you will continue to see crime rates soar . Middle management has a glut of permits and you need the NWDA to start to work. Their IT system is a joke- difficult to register or apply and no incentives for big firms to place locals- they continue to skirt the laws. Immigration Board only works for the ruling class and this path is a long and crooked one. You are fiddling while Rome burns. Wake up and do the right thing!

Sure the 1200 people on the Brac need everything…80% of them are employed by the Government (Socialism at it's best). They need larger airplanes that fly 5- 6 flights per day back and forth to Grand Cayman, They need a newer larger airport. A new hurricane shelter. Anew high school (Alden loves these). A cruise ship dock.. A new marina.(Cleveland is waiting on you to have that talk with Gina..Remember he doesn't want your concessions just government approval).
I could go on but priorities were promises of the PPM. As we all know promises are comfort to a fool…Boy, did they make fools of us!!!
