Past student earns overseas award

(CNS): Florida International University (FIU) selected Caymanian alumnus Timothy McLaughlin-Munroe to receive a Distinguished Alumni Award during the university’s 13th annual Torch Awards Gala in Miami on Saturday 8 March. The award recognizes alumni who have brought honour and distinction to the university through their notable record of service and achievement in a particular discipline, organization or cause. Mr McLaughlin is the Public Health Surveillance Officer/Deputy National Epidemiologist at the Public Health Department. The health minister, Osbourne Bodden, said, “Your dedication, commitment, and professionalism are known to your colleagues, and this recognition by FIU is well-deserved. Congratulations on your award and I encourage you to keep up the good work and continue to make us proud.”

Over the years, Timothy has spent most of his working life serving the people of the Cayman Islands. He was an emergency medical technician for 10 years and has spent another 13 years at Public Health. 

 

In his role he is responsible for monitoring and making recommendations to prevent, eradicate or control all communicable diseases within the Cayman Islands. Timothy has a reputation for taking great pride in his efforts to contribute to healthcare and public health.
