Groceries robbed at gun point

| 14/04/2014

(CNS): A woman was robbed of groceries, cash and personal belongings at gun point as she took a short cut home to her apartment in Lakeside Villas, George Town on Sunday night, police have said. The gun man who was dressed in a large hoody was said to have pushed a handgun gun in the victim's back as he demanded money as the 33 year old resident walked home through Courts Road at around 9:35pm. The robber reportedly took the woman's blue leather backpack which contained her shopping, a designer purse, cash, cards and other personal documents. The  suspect was described as tall, very slim male with a skinny face and brown complexion. He was wearing black three-quarter-length pants, a white top with a hoody which appeared to be huge on him because of his skinny build.

Officers from the George Town, CID said the victim was unhurt during the robbery as she walked home from Delworth’s Esso on the junction of North Church Street and Eastern Avenue. According to the details of the report one loaf of bread, one quart of milk, one dozen eggs, two bottles of ice tea, a white Louis Vuitton purse containing CI $120.00, US $30.00, a Butterfield and a Scotia Bank Debit Cards along with other documents were in the back-pack stolen from the victim.

The robbery comes in the wake of a doorstep mugging of another resident at the Lakeside Apartments just one week ago as he tried to get into his home. Police urged the public to be more vigilant and not walk alone or take short-cuts in secluded areas and advised people "to stay in well-lit areas as much as possible" and remain aware of their surroundings and "avoid bushy areas and other potential hiding places."

The groceries weren't robbed, the woman was.

Can’t say that we haven’t been warned that grocery shopping on a Sunday is the work of thew devil.

The saddest part of this is that even from the brief description given, SOMEONE knows who this is!!!. The biggest problem surrounding this sort of crime is peoples silence. Come on, the guy is gonna live close by, if he's stealing groceries he's unlikely to have a vehicle. Speak up residents and bring this disease to an end!!!!.

Excuse me but which part of this post made two people "LAUGH OUT LOUD"???

I hope you are not serious.

Because if you are, you are a bigger danger to this country.

I have an idea! Why not have two  male police officer dress like  women and walk that route "late evening"  as if they have just been shopping. If they are lucky, you know who will show up to try and rob them! This has to be so easy for them. As soon ashis attention is focused on one the other shoots him in the "nuts" and while he's rolling in pain on the ground, they hand cuff him and  take an hour or so to question him before they call the ambulance.

I think he'll  remember not to try robbing anyone again.

I am willing to volunteer to dress as a woman and handcuff strangers.  I am not a police office though.

Or two female police officers could dress like women and walk that route late evening as if they have just been shopping. If someone tries to rob them they could arrest them in an appropriate exercise of power without harming anybody and then gather the necessary evidence for the DPP to prosecute them and have justice served in a civilised society.

Did the police just blame the victim again?

    • Anonymous says:

No one can blame the poor victim here, only the low life who choose to do this even if they are Caymanian and is displaced, social services is not what I would encourage but it is a much better option than robbery and selling drugs and destroying the country locally and globally (as everything is on the internet in seconds) if you don't have or can't find a job.  This country is becoming a pressure cooker and when it blows God help us.  Politicians and immigration please go to these websites and see how the UK and Australia deals with their problems especially those of immigration.  For Australia it's called Border Security Australia Frontline and there are several episodes here is an actual link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRlwD9C0fBM and for the UK here is another called UK Border Force here is a link also http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3wlRuhxW2uw these are just a few examples of how to keep our borders safe and to to clean up our country and to make it much safer from events like these whether committed by locals or expats.

Did you just pass an idea about Sting Operations in the area? Do you really want to give the police force work and let them think? This would be beyond anything in the world. This police force if you look for them would be up on patrol in Camana Bay. They are well aware that they can nab a few of this low lifers. And I dare some idiot to bring up the subject that they doing this in that area because some Filipino has taken the fast food job that they single mother raised them to work for. Super Baines is only available for a show once a year. so get used to it, until the last expat is gone. Then we can sit and complain to each other how life so bad and remember the good old days when expats was everywhere and work was so much that we did not even have to take those low pay jobs. This phatetic hold up is no excuse and every effort should be taken to catch and damage the idiot. Most likely you will find that it will only be one or two individuals. But the idiots will grow in numbers if not caught and stopped fast enough.

Dumpside Villas: Welcome to the Jungle Baby

    • Anonymous says:

Why don't you just shut up 19:19! Do you know the promises made to purchasers of that property 5/6 years ago, was that the dump would be moved. Do you know whose fault it is that the dump is still there – GOVERNMENT! It is a very nice complex, quiet and close to everything. Why do people just single out that complex when you can smell the dump all along the seven mile beach corridor!! And in relation to the robbery, lets face it, these days it can happen to anyone, anywhere on this Island.

      • Anonymous says:

You are so correct poster 10:39 Lakeside is a beautiful complex but I am very grateful now that I did not purchase property there.  I thought by now the dump would be fixed.  It seems that an even bigger problem is now happening at the rear of the complex.  This is such a sad case of where the Cayman Islands are heading if the government don't address matters immediately in regards to the dump and crime.

    • Anonymous says:

yep, bet the real estate agents get real excited when they get one of those condos to sell.."petite pied a terre in Lakeside apartments, you can only smell the dump if the prevailing wind is from the East, occasionally feels like Kosovo on a bad day"

Life is rough when you get held at gun point for your potatoes and rice.

  10. Anonymous says:

This is close to Canine Palms, West Bay Road and a stone's throw away from Camana Bay and Mt. Trashmore, in fact it is much closer to Camana Bay than Caribbean Gardens. So what is your point????????

  11. Anonymous says:

Increase in police officers and security guards seem to lead to an increase in crime; makes one wonder about this positive correlation, especially when one compares makeup of officers and criminals.

“We do not think this incident is related to the last hold up in this area……”

I was told it was:  "I say old chap, I'm terribly sorry but I'm out of drugs and I need to rob you and if you don't give me what you have I'm going to jolly well punch you on your nose".

  14. Anonymous says:

yet again because strata management let people use the illegal access route from the rear of the development……

the cops should question the managment as to why they let this happen…..

    • No Right Turn! says:

Let's hope that for the safety of everyone else, they continue to use that illegal access as opposed to trying to kill us all by turning illegally in to the complex from the other side.

    • Anonymous says:

Yeah ok it was the managements fault, I'm sure your kid wouldn't have stuck that lady up it that access route wasn't open..

  15. Anonymous says:

Hmmm..hey Baines…might be a good area to patrol..seems like the thieves have noticed that you didn't even bother…

  16. Knot S Smart says:

    Is this near Caribbean Gardens?

    • Anonymous says:

Yes.  Caribbean Gardens in Dog City.  What a joke.  The only garden there, is Robbers Hideaway.  Good place for the cops to hangout.

  17. Kadafe says:

No sa! That court roads area has been a trouble area for a long time. The police should have sting operations in that area regularly to get those dogs off the street! Damn thieves!
