Officials send 32 Cuban migrants back home

| 22/04/2014

(CNS): Loocal officials repatriated 32 Cubans this month. Following a surge of migrants forced to land here recently as a result of boat problems, the repatriation centre was crowded with people from the neighbouring island. On 9 April immigration authorities returned nine Cubans who landed here on 11 March and a group of 23 that landed on 5 March were returned Tuesday 22 April, it was confirmed. Despite the latest deportation 30 migrants remain at the Immigration Detention Centre awaiting the outcome of their processing by immigration but three escapees are understood to still be on the run.

Cayman is not the land of milk and honey? clearly people writing these things have never struggled. Do you think people would go through such hardship because they dont want to try to make it work in cuba? Cubans arent stupid, if they are going to great lengths to leave that communist country im pretty sure they didnt intend to land here in cayman. Its obvious that cubans know that if the land here they would be sent back, which is what happened. They want to reach florida because there they would obtain assylum. They ended up in cayman because their boat was in trouble and had no choice. So yea what "Christian Community" would we be if we were not to house and feed a group of people that are in need of urgent help, just seeking a better life before they are returned to their country. We are all humans people we didnt choose were we were born or what social class we were going to be raised in.

As a Christian community, we should determine if any of the migrants have criminal records and deport them back to Cuba but do whatever can be done in seeking assistance from other countries in accepting these freedom-seeking people. Cubans seem to be  highly educated and surprisngly entrepreneurial so if they are well behaved they will be an asset to their host country.

We have an example of an asset here.  One who goes on hunger strike and occupying public space.

Exactly- they should all stay at home and fight whatever it is they are running from. Spread the word when you all  go back that Cayman is sick of open season, there is no money to take care of you here. Raul Castro seems to be giving you more opportunities than you could not even dream about from Fidel.  Please stay in your country and fight to make things better for yourselves and your families. Just do it instead of risking your lives on the high seas, then when picked up creating more expense for  our country  by running off. Next time you all think to leave Cuba please bear in mind that the grass is not always greener on the other side.  If you have a skill use it to make Cuba better – Cayman is not the land of milk and honey that it once was.

Well is highly convenient now for you to say so. just remember, this island was built partly, according to cayman history books, by caimanians been EXPATS all over the world, working for foreing shipping companies, making a living in USA, jamaica and guest where else? CUBA, I dont recall cubans throwing you away from isle pine in history classes?

also the fact that you actually believe that Raul is giving opportunities to the people shows the lack of knowledge about reality over there, the actual succes on the comunist political propaganda around the world, and just to clarify, they are just giving the people SOME OF THEIR RIGHTS BACK, the ones you have for granted, like been able to decided what to do with your own private posessions without going to jail.

migration is a polemic subject, either is economical, political or just plain running away from war zones. you got the right to express what your believes, IU have also the right to feel ashame of people like you.
