Lower Valley heap fire burns out safely
(CNS): Officials from the Cayman Islands Fire Service have confirmed that a heap fire in Lower Valley on Thursday night was safely contained by the fire service and burned out in around five to six hours. Firefighters said that the primary truck on the scene identified that no property was at risk and the wind conditions made it clear that it did not constitute a danger to anyone or anything. As a result, with an eye on water conservation and sensible resource management, fire officers took action to contain the blaze but then allowed it to burn out rather than waste water trying to extinguish the blaze.Photo by Rosie McNamee

So much like all the ilegai camping that took place last weekend, the illegal burning will be ignorned? God forbid I want to buy a pound of cheese on a Sunday though! May I rot in hell!
Who say that the Firemen do not have good training? Mr Nixon saw to it that these guys most of them went overseas and got good training. However human being are strange and after the poor man retired those under him that took over was much younger than him and it was difficult for the guys to respect them. They were not a senior like him and did not have that strong and fearful voice. But the public can rest assured that those Cayman Boys have good training. I am sure they will get back their high credibility now that Mr Nixon is back.
Give me one example of the Cayman Islands Fire Service preventing a fire from complete devasation.
Any word from the RCIP? These fires are against the law………….
Which law
In the Book of Exodus I think.
We have new managers now so everything will good again in fire service we have managers that will listen no what we just replace and all the friendly promotion will stop what went on in cayman brac was a disaster.
Nice job, Fire Service. I like the change in tactics and the conservative approach. Save us some $.
Yep, let it burn as long as no one was in danger. Especially if there were no chemicals. All bush.
People should not be allowed to burn things willy-nilly. I live down-wind of Savannah, where fires are set in backyards regularly. Not only do I have to breathe in the horrible burning smell, I worry about WHAT is being burned. What I am inhaling, because someone is too lazy to take his/her trash to the dump? Enough, already! The fire service should be fining the people who set these fires.
It is illegal to burn stuff now, call the police.
The job of the Fire Service is to put out fires and they actually do an excellent job (especially the Frank Sound station).
I have seen them hike deep into the bush to extinguish out of control fires set by so-called "farmers" where they had to physically beat out the flames as trucks and hoses could not reach.
On the other hand, it is the job of RCIPS is to charge/arrest people who break laws. Apparently.
Absolutely, folks should take it to the dump. Lord knows it'll burn there just as well…
If people were allowed to burn small heaps as was common place years ago, there wouldn't be as many pests causing problems now. There is no one to turn to, to assist with the pests problems. Time for the Agriculture Department to check the black liice infested trees and do something about it.
The black lice you are referring to is a condition called sooty mold, caused by whitefly, which have indeed become a big problem in recent years. We use a mixture of 4 tbsp natural soap (Dr. Bronner's or Ivory liquid soap, NOT dish detergent) mixed into a gallon of water. Put it into a garden sprayer and douse the upper and lower sides of the leaves. Works like a charm, but does need reapplication. It does not harm beneficial insects such as ladybugs and bees.
No need to expect Agriculture to do anything for you 🙂
And best of all, it's much safer and cheaper than anything you can purchase!!
Thanks for this……Worked brilliantly. Lawn smelled like Ivory when i was done too!!!
