Garden party returns for queen’s local birthday bash

| 09/06/2014

(CNS): Following the formal Queen’s Birthday parade this weekend, officials said that the traditional garden party in the grounds of Government House will be back this year. Held on the front lawn at the governor’s residence the party will follow the awards ceremony at 10:15am on Saturday. The event provides an opportunity for locals to dress up in their finery and guest attending in shorts and flip flops will be turned away but hats are optional. The party is open to the public with musical entertainment and light refreshments available. “It is my pleasure to reintroduce the Garden Party at Government House as part of this year’s Queen’s Birthday celebrations,” said the governor, Helen Kilpatrick.

The Cayman Islands celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday in June each year when senior uniformed services officers, youth service organisations and the police band take part in a parade in front of the Legislative Assembly at 9am, 14 June

The programme also includes the presentation of honours to previously announced recipients: Dr Saratchandra (Sarath) de Alwis-Seneviratne and Thomas M. Wood. Those in attendance will also learn the names of the 2014 Queen’s Birthday Honours recipients, and the Duke of Edinburgh scheme awardees.

The return of Borden’s Pizza…..now the garden party….just like old times! Woohoo!

I am happy this past event is being returned this Saturday. At least, the money is being spent on our residence in this way rather than a bunch of politicians plane hopping/jetsetting all over the globe!

Will the light refreshments include free liquor like the MLA parties?

So it's ok when the public funds are squandered on parties?  Is it true that there is a big party planned for the auditor general's office soon too?  I also hear another big party is planned for Eric Bush's ministry supposedly for the best employer award. And they have the gall to criticize other civil servants or past politicians for traveling to get business.  At least they bring back business.  What are big parties at the Gov's. getting?  Shame on you all!

It would be interesting to see the senior civil servant's frequent fancy restautant and expensive wine expense allowances.

Will there be a collection of slaves serving the tea for an added touch of authenticity?

Why stop at celebrating "the queen's" birthday? Why not add Osama bin Laden, Hitler and King Leopold II as we're in the habit of celebrating brutal and murderous legacies?

He went straight to Hitler.  He is not the flaming troll he used to be.

God save the Queen!  We should all be grateful we live in Her Majesty's territory. What with all the despots in the world, like the fellow 150 miles north of us, and the chaos 300 miles east of us for two examples .   If you don't like living in Cayman,  there are many flights each week to those ("People's") paradises.  Proudly Caymanian and proudly British am I.  Thumbs up for the Queen!

I have a mocha twig and 2 berries for your queen to come play with.

Actually, he went to a few individuals. Hitler stood out to you. I'm sure you have your special reasons for that particular bias though.

Will there be a press release on road closures SEVERAL days before this event so the businesses in the central business area can plan their operations?

    • Archie Buck Dem Up says:

You sure hit the highlights. The date has been publicized all over. If you have nothing to say don't say it, which reminds me what am I doing here.
