WestStar blamed for LIME internet crash
(CNS): Local telecommunications firm LIME suffered a seven hour fixed line and internet crash Thursday afternoon because one of its competitors cut through one of its cables. WestStar, which is one of a number of communication firms digging up Grand Cayman's roads at present in order to upgrade their service, reportedly cut through the LIME line at around noon, blacking out its competitor's services. "As soon as we were made aware of the problem, our technicians worked diligently to repair the cable and to restore service. All services were restored at approximately 7:30pm," a spokesperson for LIME stated. "We are very sorry for the interruption to your service and are working with our competitors to make sure this doesn’t happen in the future."

Come on Alee…. Step UP ICTA. Too true about roadwork uncoordinated – blame planning and NRA to allow this shambles.
when are we going to force closed loop internet so all local email doesn't have to bounce to Uncle Sam in Miami before local delivery too?
Where was Limes' BCP plan? Come on get your acts together.
Lime owns the terrestrial cables. All Internet service is altimately LIME. They have this entire island held hostage. They will always find a way to squeeze us.
I wish they were terrestrial! I think you meant “subterranean”.
That is false. C3 is absolutely independant, having their own fiber optic network and satlite dishes…
Whoops… Heheheheheh.
Let's see what the regulators now says.
When asked for comment I think it will be: "zzzzzzzzzzzzz"
yes, their should be a fine… these are vital services.
One thing can be said for WestStar, at least they are repairing the roads very well. LIME and other who cut the roads could learn!! Thanks WestStar.
too bad they can’t cut lime poor service forever.
Why is it all the companies which do underground cabling along our public (and even private roads) dont coordinate their work better. They are all so GREEDY & NON COOPERATIVE that instead of them forming a joint venture for underground work together to find one underground cabling subcontractor to be responsible for this work they choose to do it themselves. The problems with that are many but to name a few: When they cut up the roads they never patch them up properly The following week after one patch up, another company is cabling and they cut the road up again. Instead of one consorted effort they cut the roads a million times and cant patch to save their lives. With this incident noted in this article it goes to show that they probably dont communicate with each other to get drawings showing where the other has placed conduits. UGHHH so irritating! Again, this would not be an issue if one contractor was hired, that one company would be responsible. They say their not- but they are each so greedy and prefer not to work as a team. Despite all this they still cant provide consistent service, at least not what you pay for. Get a grip
Someone needs to cut Westsar's line for the piss poor service they offer. Can't wait for C3 or Logic to get to the Eastern districts so I can tear this no use service called Weststar from my house.
Why is it that every communication company in the Cayman Islands have to be in the online tele-vision service? and they all promise that their service is the best.
I have noticed since my internet service started this on-line TV thing, my internet service has slowed down to a crawl!
This is a problem I have heard others say that they too have been experiencing. And why do they have to be doing this work [digging up our roads] during peak traffic hours? Why cant they be working at night-time, when doing this kind of work like other countries do?
Everyhing is acceptable in war, now let the price wars begin, then we will truly have competition.
weststar………..don't worry, it will soon be over……
