Jeffers guilty of third killing

| 14/08/2014

(CNS): A jury of 11 women and one man agreed unanimously that Raziel Omar Jeffers (31) was guilty of manslaughter in the shooting death of Marcos Duran in March 2010 but not guilty of the more serious charge of murder. However, Jeffers will now return to jail while he awaits sentence as he is already serving two life sentences for the murder of Marcus Ebanks in 2009 and Damion Ming in 2010. Jeffers had little reaction to the verdict which was made by the jury in about three hours. The crown's case was that he had masterminded a plan to rob Duran as he was on his rounds selling illegal numbers and that he had armed the assailants with lethal barrelled weapons.

In February 2012, in a judge-alone trial Justice Charles Quin found Jeffers guilty of the murder of Marcus Ebanks in July 2009. He was also convicted of trying to kill four other young men, including Adryan Powell, who was paralyzed as a result of the multiple gunshots he received on the evening of the shooting. Jeffers was one of two gunmen who had opened fire on a group of young men as they sat in a West Bay yard in July 2009.

In April 2014 a jury found Jeffers guilty of the murder of Damion Ming. As he handed down a second life sentence, the judge told Jeffers he believed he was a cruel, calculating cold blooded killer.

All three cases depended heavily on the evidence of the crown's key witness, Meagan Martinez, Jeffers' former girlfriend and the mother of his young son, who said her lover had confessed his crimes to her.

You know I am not being an advocate for criminals. I believe Jeffers had justice served and it serves him right. But fair is fair. And what has me bewildered is that they will convict this man of manslaughter because he masterminded the crime. I feel that racketeering or conspiracy wouldve been better suited. There is no evidence to say he ordered anyone to kill that man. And furthermore how can they say he is guilty because he armed mr. x to be able to commit murder when they cannot prove mr. X murdered anyone. I think this is putting the horse before the carriage. And if they can use that girls testimony to convict, they should be able to use it to convict the others involved in it… Round em up and ship em to their hotel suite beside jeffers too.

CNS: Her testimony would be inadmissible in a trial of others alleged to be involved. See this report for explanation

They could not prove his intention to kill, but to rob, which resulted in a death.

If there is no intent to kill but someone is killed, then it is downgraded from murder to manslaughter.

Justice served, thank you ladies and gentlemen of the jury, many thanks to the judge and the brave persons that did theirpart in bring this to an end.  The family of the deceased can now rest much easier knowing that one person will pay the penalty and if there are others they will get their justice from the higher judge and jury.

Let see the tree hugging human rights supporters rally to get these convictions converted to 25 years.

Took a life,y now gve up therig to your ow, simple.

    • Anonymous says:

There would be no conversion to 25 years, only a chance to be considered for release on licence after 25, 30 or even 40 years for example, and liable to be recalled for the slightest infraction….a life sentence means a life sentence. CONSIDERED for release is the important thing to remember, release on licence is never automatic and only if they have shown complete reform and proved that they can live in society…..some never get out ever….

      Tree hugging ?

Yes, humans have rights, so does a killer.

But this gut will end up in three life sentences, so that is still 75 years in prison (3 x 25).

He will die in prison, and that is what he deserves.

Murderers like this don't have the support for human rights by, as you call them, tree huggers.

Murder comes in different degrees and circumstances. If you don't understandt that, then you are probably to young to make the comments as you have made them.

Why bother to go through the expense of a trial for someone that's already in jail for the rest of his life ?

    • Anonymous says:

09:01, because if he doesn't go to trial he gets away with murder / manslaughter you dimwit.

For the victims family and for justice. Justice has no price and may that never change. Not everything in this world is about money.

    • Wow!!! says:

09:01, If it was your family member or a friend that he was accused of killing, wouldn't you want him to stand trial for it? Even if he had 2 or 3 trials before that? Next time you open your mouth stop and think first, please.

    Oh dear.

Looks like ol' "ladies man" Jeffers gonna have to get used to a new kind of "romance" in H.M. Northward prison.

    😉

(Many thanks and kudos go out to the jury for doing the right thing in this case as well as the others.)

Raziel is nothing but a little punk with whom I have personally had the misfortune of crossing paths a while ago. I saw right through his spoiled rotten, mama's boy, wanna-be-bad-man facade from Day 1.

He is not worthy of the "respect" he sought as a mastermind of the criminal underworld as he has a history of getting emotional over petty crap and carrying out hits on innocent and bystanding individuals, e.g. lowly "numbers men".

The only scary thing about Raziel was his ability to gain so many followers … talk about the dumb leading the dumber! A scary thought indeed.

Lastly, again, I implore all the Logwood and Birch Tree Hill gang members to fall back and see reality for what it is. Your "leaders" were basically fighting and killing themselves over p—y!!

Are you willing to put your life on the line for the sake of another man's d–k?!

Wake up guys! As you do so – please go and check Tara Rivers and see if she can't find a job for you. In fact, I will let her know of an opening this very morning for which I want a former gang member – regardless of what side – to fill the position. (The pay is $1500.00 per month.)

I hope these recent guilty verdicts will be the much needed turning point in the West Bay community and wider community.

Nice post, but is there anyone in the Birch Tree Hill or Logwoods gangs capable of accessing the internet and actually reading anything once they have?

  16. Anonymous says:

WOW … would we count him as a serial killer?

    • Anonymous says:

That is exactly what he is!  We just haven't advanced enough to suggest the title.

    • Anonymous says:

Don't tell me he did the cornflakes too??? Bastard.

Good. Now let’s get that little punk Keith back from Jamaica and put him away too.

Living in Jamaica might be a bigger punishment for many of the gangstas who had the "easy" life here.
