Garbage piles up by government building

| 20/08/2014

(CNS): Further technical problems with the Department of Environmental Health’s garbage truck fleet led to a growing and unsightly pile of rubbish under the nose of government this week. The garbage was piled up in Humber Lane just yards from the Government Administration Building and it took a picture sent in by a CNS reader to gain some attention and have it collected. The snap taken at around 9am Tuesday morning was sent to the health minister and senior civil servants, which led to the trash finally being taken away.

Garbage piles up in the Government building every day.

Technically the trucks may be broken down, but that is not the real problem. The real problem is systemic, it is the MANAGEMENT of the DEH that are causing the real problems of garbage and collection in these Islands.

For over ten years there is no proper plans in place for driver education or maintenance. There is no penalty for drivers who damage trucks. XXX There is no accountability.

This is not a Minister problem as Ministers do not deal with govt depatments. Chief Officers are responsible for the heads of departments.

Well, for one, this pic does not really prove anything. That pile is from a tenanment yard that has about 50 or more people living there. On any good day that is how the garbage looks.

And these tenants are living in over crowded situations on work permits and cheap imported labourers and on the same side of the street as the Immigration Dept that grants these work permits. I suppose this proved that accommodation sheet is again of no relevance.

Its not the trucks fault people.  Who ,or more importantly, why is the person in charge still in charge?  When someone shows that they are not capable of doing the job they should be fired and the next best steps up.  But here in the third world they are hired not by what they know but who they know with the expected results.  Therefore expect the same lame results until Caymanians have achieved a level of intelligence that grants them the priviledge of voting for intelligence and experiance over the biggest mouth and ego.

GARBAGE  piled up by Govererment building .Do we see how efective this  one citizen and  CNS were in this matter of getting this garbage clean up . All it took was one photo and the media to get this garbage cleaned up .   The   person that took the picture should have an award ., for showing us how effective one person can be. Do we see how if we all come together  and work together how we could solve all the problems that is taken place in Cayman .When you sit down and dont say anything or take pictures and send them to the  media the GARBAGE AND the problems will get bigger .

Time to sell garbage trucks to private company as they know how to run a business meanwhile government have clueless and brainless about running the business.

This is one department that should be privatized, there should be a case made for recycling and specialized garbage trucks and bins that you have to place your garbage in and the truck comes around and empty the bins like they do in Florida.  Employers that ride the trucks to empty the garbage can be reassigned to other jobs in recycling and other departments.

yes, i would love to see that bussiness case; and then laugh at the howls of outrage at the cost per person. maybe the CoC or one of the Big Accountants that are allways on about privatization could do a fast, rough, bussiness case and publish it. or would we then see that the privatization emperors have no clothes?

We should allstart dumping our rubbish outside the houses of the PPM ministers until the lazy b**t**ds get off their slothful backsides and start passing some laws that actualy help the community, not enslave it. I've got a sack of hamster poo heading to the Brac.

12:41.  Are you suggesting that it is impossible for garbage trucks to have technical problems.Maybe it is time for you to move into the 21st century.

I was driving behind a DEH truck last week, and the blinding, suffocating black smoke coming from the truck was incredible!

This from a Govt. Department of "Environmental Health" vehicle?

Thanks CNS for posting this.  Time to show just how much attention is being looked at in these areas where poor constitutents live.  How awful for the Government to have this just across the street and the smell must have been harsh for those residents as well.  SHame and disgrace on the DEH and the Ministry and everyone who is doing nothign about the garbage in this country except making us pay for more and more reports that only have the damn date changed on them and paying lip services like it is going out of style.  They should all have to wake up one morning and find everyone's garbage on their frigging drive way and that will get them doing something other than changing the dates on reports and paying again for them and telling us lies and more lies.  Minister Bodden should really shut up and do something.  The Premier Alde needs to step down and get out the country, Marco archer needs to stop politically interferring in Boards, and using others to do his dirty work.

11:32.People like you should stop inciring others to break the law. I am sure that you will be "missing in action" should anyone get arrested for following your suggestion.

This group cannot even keep the trucks on the road, how can we trust them on fixing the Giant on fire dump mountain? A sleep at the wheel, willfully neglectful, just Idiocy, or pandering to the voters?
