Victim of attempted mugging has heart attack
(CNS): A 27 year old George Town man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery while one of his victims has been hospitalized after suffering a heart attack. The police said that they received a report of the stick-up attempt just after two o’clock in the morning Sunday in central George Town. Three people who were attending a social event on Shedden Road said they were approached by a man armed with a machete who attempted to rob one of the individuals in the group. Although police said that no one was injured during the offence the threatened man suffered a heart attack in the wake of the incident.
When the police attended the scene they arrested the suspect who is still in police custody assisting with the investigation. The victim who had suffered a heart attack shortly afterwards was transported to George Town Hospital; he was later taken to Health City in east End where he is presently in stable condition.
Anyone with any information regarding this incident is asked to contact DS Andrew Graham at the George Town Criminal Investigation Department on 949-4222, the RCIPS tip line 949-7777 or Crime Stoppers 800-8477 (TIPS)

So many people have been saying for so long – one day, and perhaps frighteningly soon, a tourist is going to get caught up in one of these attacks, and is killed. Even as it was at Coconut Joe's , how will tourists feel about being robbed at gunpoint of cash and valuables, and particularly for women handing over jewelry, particularly their engagement and wedding rings. Does anyone imagine they are not going to talk to friends and family in the US. Our problem is the increase in this kind of crime in the tourist area of West Bay Road.
God forbid this man/lady passes away, but if he/she does this needs to be an involuntary manslaughter charge. But given the judicial system, I doubt that will happen.
I will guess a "no prior offense, 6 month probation, please private sector give this man a job" sentence will happen.
IF indeed the attackers action caused the victims heart attack, he should be charged with causing grievous bodlly harm at the minumun & face a jail sentence .This is just basic Law.. a person directly causes a life threatening injury to someone in a robbery attack… with a weapon. If you swung a machete & a person falls over & hits their head on the side-walk…you caused their injury and would face an attempted manslaughter charge. Its the same thing.
No one was injured? What's a heart attack?
Wow! a new low, look at what this place has come to and where are the RCIPS with over 500 police and this enormous Budget ??????? It looks like citizens need will need to do street patrols themselves like in other countries and send these jokers in the RCIPS back home Absolurtely no use whatsoever!
The police arrested the person. It seems the police did a good job. The police did not cause the person's heart attack. It was the assailant. There needs to be more robust laws, more stringent immigration policies, actually use the the CCTV with face recognition technology mirroring what the UK has, increase marine border control, monitor work permits and the permit holders with accountability of the permit holder eg jail, fine, name and shame etc. There can be many ways to go about it. Prevention is better than leading with an iron fist. ThoughI am all for abortion and having a number limited people coming in from the high immigration countries; I think there are many ways to look at it.
The homegrown ones are already known to the police. If it is through visitors coming in the island and robbing and leaving, then in order to get that visa to visit Cayman weshould require fingerprints. We all know which nationality that is being suggested here.
Only here for a pay cheque and fun in the sun.
Someone ain't got a lick a sense and is as ignorant as a conch on a flatbed Ford. We have criminals bred in this society coming out of every hole in this society and there are obviously more than 500 holes for them to come out of, so how you expect police to plug every one of them? You na hear Mac want even less police? He say it is a police state. Problem is that people know what criminals up to, but don't tell police. Police can't lock them up without evidence and when they get enough evidence, if the judge/jury don't let them off, the court gives them early release. So wha ya think? Oh, I forgot, you na thinkin straight anyway. Well let me tell ya, stop blaming the police and try help them catch all those criminals roaming our street by calling them next time ya know something factual about them criminals.
