Man denies helping killer suspect in Webster case

(CNS): A 60 year old man has denied helping an alleged killer escape capture following the murder of Solomon Webster in September. Sanchez was arrestedand charged by police with the murder two days after the special Olympian died in the George Town hospital from a gun-shot wound to his leg.  David Graham Lauer is accused of given safe haven to Sanchez for the two days after the shooting in West Bay, when he, knew the prosecution claim, that he had killed Webster. Lauer denies allegations of accessory after the fact of either manslaughter or murder and his attorney told the court that Lauer was in fear of Sanchez when he arrived at his home. 

Lauer entered not guilty pleas in the Grand Court on Friday to allegations that he had “impeded the apprehension,” of the murder suspect and is expected to face trial next year. However, Defence Attorney Nicholas Dixey told the court that he had requested that the crown review the case as there was not intent on the part of his client.

A 30 year old man from West Bay was also charged as an accessory after he was accused of allowing Sanchez to use his phone in the wake of the killing. However, the crown dropped charges against Blake Christopher Barrell on 24 October.

Meanwhile, Sanchez who is currently on remand at HMP Northward having been charged with murder, is expected to appear before the Grand Court on Friday. The 27 year old West Bay man has not yet answered the charges against him.

Solomon Webster died at the George Town hospital several hours after he was shot in the leg and the bullet pierced a main artery on Sunday evening, 7 September in Daisy Lane. Apparently in the wrong place at the wrong time, Webster’s friends and family had driven the 24 year old to the West Bay clinic where they were met by an ambulance and paramedics. He was taken to the Cayman Islands hospital but was pronounced dead the following morning.
