Driver hospitalized following roundabout smash
(CNS): Two SUVs were involved in a major collision near to Kings Gym Tuesday afternoon. One of the cars involved overturned and the female driver was hospitalized, police said. Uniform officers from the George Town Police Station who are now investigating the smash said it happened at around 2:15pm at the roundabout on Crewe Road. They believe that one of the vehicles was struck in the rear end by the other while exiting the roundabout, causing it to overturn. The woman driving the SUV that was hit and flipped was taken to the Cayman Islands Hospital as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash but police said they were not life threatening.

Have you all forgotten that the Police said they no longer have a traffic department ?. Which is very sad, so what can we expect from unruly drivers who do not obey the law. What a state were are in.
Until police does what they are hired to do and enforce the traffic law on a regular basis nothing will change – EVER!
Until police start monitoring and ticketing poor driving practices at these roundabouts accidents will continue to happen. This is especially true for the roundabout at Crewe Road in the mornings when its a free for all with traffic coming from the East and those merging from South Sound.
Oh my word. I see pinheads who don't know the first thing about 'roundabout rules' every single day!!
For example: Heading east towards the roundabout by Ocean Club where you either take the East-West arterial, or continue and take Shamrock road – – – literally EVERY time I use that roundabout, I see drivers going 3/4 of the way around to take Shamrock road while they're in the LEFT lane. Anyone with a drivers license shoudl know that you can't do that from the left lane!! You need to be in the RIGHT lane. But it happens all the flippin' time.
There are even signs telling you what lane to be in as you approach that roundabout but that isn't even enough for these dense dimwits who either are too mentally defective to understand the rules, or too ignorant to abide by them. And I'm willing to wager that maybe 25% of drivers actually indicate using their signals WHICH EXIT they are going to take. It's unreal.
We are going to see more crashes at major roundabouts unti the police start cracking down on this constant foolishness.

9 times out of 10 the person who'll slalom from one lane to another through the double-lane roundabout without a turning signal is from _____. Newbies, beware of these careless children.
What about the poorly design roundabout at Red Bay and Prospect that have cause so many accidents regardless of style and speed of driving. The NRA or the government should be sued for these many accidents and making an unsafe road. The roundabout slants / camber to the left thus reducing the traction / level of resistance to a car taking a corner. The design is beyond or behind third world
13:10, if you lose traction going around a roundabout, a) you need new tires and b) you are going to fast.
Accidents caused on roundabouts are 99% because of idiots who do not know how to negotiate it properly or by assholes jockeying for position in rush hour traffic.
Blaming the road for poor driving, typical response nowadays, its always someone else's fault.

If you look at the way people use the Dart Oblong-about very few people are doing it right. you should not be in the outsede lane to go from the real West Bay Rd south along the sky way.
And how about at least occasional use of the indicators so others might have some inkling as what your doing.
Avery poorly designed mess.
There are a few spots in Cayman where a certain style of aggressive driving is catching on. It's a copy-cat syndrome, where stupid driving is becoming the new normal. In Savannah, for example, when driving west, the double track narrows to a single lane with a yellow-hatched exclusion zone to stop drivers passing on the corner. But where do these lunatics always overtake? Across the yellow lines of course, giving oncoming drivers a nasty shock and the chance of a head-on collision.
Then there's the roundabout by Ocean Club, when cars travelling west in the left lane and continuing towards town, must deal with the ample supply of lunatics who fly past on the outside, into the roundabout, hoping no one is doing the same thing from the bypass direction. I've seen vehicles do this at 60 mph, from rice-rockets to commercial trucks.
In both these spots there will be an accident, and it won't be pretty. The collision will be head-on in Savannah and broadside at the roundabout.
Every day on roundabouts in Cayman I see near accidents. There should be a public awareness campaign to help people understand the rules when using a roundabout. Also coming in to holiday season why not, while people are waiting to be processed at immigration have an information video on the screens. Or would this need a focus group, a kpmg or price waterhouse cooper report?
It needs police arresting people for dangerous driving is what it needs.
To be fair the design of these roundabouts is questionable, especially the ones with a dual carriageway on the entry and a single lane on the exit, the ones with the dual exit with a merge lane as seen on the kings and butterfield roundabouts. I reckon a few youtube videos from a dashcam on how the roads should be used, approaching the roundabouts from all angles should cost about $100 for the dashcam. Now if we could only come to some sort of agreement on the 'correct' use we might get somewhere.
My only plea is that if you are taking the third exit, or going right on the roundabout, don't indicate left on your approach. You've got it backwards!
My dear, "public awareness" campaigns cannot correct idiotic behavior. Just saying.

How about the police just enforce the law and stop and prosecute the law breakers before some other innocent gets killed!
