the Pirates Week fireworks used to be done at 7.00p.m. to accomodate young children who should not be out until all hours, especially at this type of functon and unsupervised is ven worse.

This child should not have been left to her own devices. The fact that she is in the girls home would indicate that there is a problem.Where was her guardian?

My goodness, I shudder to think what is becoming our beloved Cayman, in everyway shape or form.

The teenage dance for that night went till when?

Same time as the adults I believe.

      And we wonder.

A 13 year old allowed to be unsupervised at a night time event such as the end of Pirates week should never be allowed.  Where in Gods name where the staff?

Don't they have chaperone's when attending these things?  Also why are they even allowed to attend such things?  Especially at that age.  Seems a bit young to attend a teen dance that is open for much older children and young adults.  Is the Francis Girl's home just a housing facility? Or do they actually try to develop and teach the children to be upstanding members of society?  I don't see it in the best interests of a 13 year old child to attend such an event.  If they are allowed to be taken to events like this are they also taken to true cultural events?  Such as plays, classical musical events, sports events etc. Why aren't they out volunteering their time walking the dogs from the humane society every Saturday?  Why aren't they out providing their services to the Pines? Why aren't they out doing something productive? Rather going to a dance that plays vulgar music and encourages demeaning women, promiscuous behaviour and drug usage.  Give them productive things to do so they feel valued and realise there are others worse off.  Otherwise keep their names on record as they will be the next set of prisoners and social service recipients.

It's a housing facility from what I hear about it

So you think our vulnerable children should be put to work without pay?  This does not address the issue of why a child of 13 was out till 10.00pm without a chaperone.

      • Anonymous says:

Yes I do believe that they should be put to work without pay. It is called character building and learning responsibility. Not everything should be looked at with the eyes of getting something in return.  Volunteering is just that.  Providing a service to others for whom you can help. If you read the post there was a question as to why the child was allowed to attend such an event in the first place. Nevermind that there was no chaperone or a neglectful chaperone. Attending such an event is not conducive to teaching her how to be an upstanding member of society.

      • Anonymous says:

Your opinion of working without pay shows that you have never done anything for anyone else without expecting something in return. Not everything is about money. Volunteering teaches life lessons which are priceless.

      • Anonymous says:

What a stupid, unproductive question.  No wonder the place is going down the way it is.

      • Anonymous says:

Instead of putting thumps down, why dont you four answer the question?

Another one.  It is probably best not to give too much publicity to this sort of thing.

    • Anonymous says:

      Why, does the truth hurt..

      • Anonymous says:

Well it does a few things:

        1. Her name is on the internet so she has her 15 mins of fame. However google her name when she is work ready and would you truly hire her?

        2. Brings light to the incompetence of the Girl's home.

        3. Without providing an explanation as to what happened to her during her time away, leaves the general public to think the worst of her and the facility.

These three aren't necessarily bad things. Just natural responses to the publicity of what occurred.

      • Anonymous says:

Because they are just acting out and publicity encourages it.

Why do so many of these young girls run away from Francis Bodden Girls Home?  Surely, it is time to look into this.

    • Anonymous says:

because they hate the discipline there since they have been able to do exactly what they want almost from the day they are born to useless parents.

      • Anonymous says:

Then a solution is to make the place into a lower level military facility. Yes they have discipline issues. Have the place run by Admirals and Sargeants. Increase the security and prevent all social activities unless the child reaches and maintains a criteria for a set period of time.

The children need to see that there are consequences for their actions and not just a slap on the wrist.

      • Anonymous says:

discipline without therapy is not the answer.  these young girls are often very damaged and need intensive interventions to break the cycle.  Putting a child into a children's home and dishing out discipline without those interventions, guarantees problems in the future.  Also what about disciplining the staff who allowed a 13 year old to be out at that hour of night without a chaperone.

"She was last seen at the Pirates week Teen dance in George Town around 10pm."

Why is a 13 year old out at 10pm? Just because it says "Teen" dance doesn't make it appropriate or all teens to be there at that time of night. Pirates Week has become an excuse for people to drink non-stpop, get drunk and act inappropriately. Not clear on why the island thinks it is a good thing to celebrate pirates who were known to rob, rape and kill people.

That said I hope she is found safe.

Piracy and pirate logic are deeply engrained in Cayman history; ergo, the district culture days coincide and associate directly with this festival every year, reinforcing the proclivity towards misplaced entitlement andappropriation for future generations.

Hope she is found safe and sound.

She was at a dance designed for her age group. All the way unil 1-2 a.m.

Sorry Cayman is no longer the innocent Island we all knew and loved.  This has been gone for quite sometime.  A 13 year old girl should be accompanied by an adult going to these street dances, especially in George Town after 10pm…..Years ago it wasn't a problem, now letting this happen is must plain ignorant on the part of the Girl's School!!! Who should be held accountable!!!!

Now there is a novel idea – hold someone accountable.  It will never happen.
