Prison officers find drugs at jail perimeter
(CNS): As local authorities faces mounting criticisms over the amount of drugs in the prison and their failure to control the prevalent use of ganja by inmates, over two pounds of it was found by prison guards on Tuesday. Officials said that ‘vegetable matter resembling ganja” (pictured left) as well as two cell-phones were discovered on the perimeter of HM Prison Northward yesterday (Tuesday, 26 February). The items were found before 8am by officers conducting inspections of the exterior perimeter of the prison. This, officials said, was before the time when some prisoners are allowed out to work around the prison perimeter and farm.
The suspected drugs were handed over to the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service for further investigations.
The revelations come in the wake of a report by the UK’s prison inspectorate that described the use of ganja in the prison as high with many prisoners using illegal drugs regularly, with a positive test rate of 28%. However, the inspectors said the prison took no action to prevent the ingress of drugs.

Think I’ll take my dog for a walk around the prison perimeter each morning from now on!
The real issue is that, non-violent drug users should not be incarcerated in the first place.
You mean the prison officers are finally getting off their rear ends and actually walking around the compound? Well holy smoke! imagine if they would actually make it a regular routine? Easy, breezy, beautiful prison life.
Something not right with the whole system up there. If conditions are really as bad as suggested in reports, let them have the ganja. Otherwise prisoner might eventually might riot over conditions
Are we now supposed to congratulate the prison staff on a job well done? A job well done would've been catching the people who put this contraband along the prison perimeter.
Ha Ha Ha, the cameras not working or what? Guess they are being repaired.
so what's new…just another day at Club Paradise..
roll me a little spliff nah?
well done guys (and girl) this is what we are up against on a daily basis. so before you go ahead and crucify the prison and staff. ask their families what the hell they are playing at maybe?
It is absolutely ridiculous that inmates can get 2 pounds of an illegal substance (whatever it may be) without the police being any the wiser. What about the people who are supposedly bringing this contraband to the prisoners? Are there no CCTV cameras around the prison to see who/when/how these 'packages' are being delivered to the prison perimeter?
Get cctv In the prison yards & in the prison itself!

Hope they wrapped some Rolling papers in there. They may not have been reading CNS to learn that they are not for sale at the tuck shop anymore.
