Woman mugged in GT street
(CNS): A 64-year-old woman was mugged in broad daylight in George Town Tuesday morning when a gold necklace was snatched from around her neck. The police said the woman’s jewellery, a chain with a Spanish gold coin pendant, was pulled from her neck by a man riding a bicycle at around 9:05am today. The woman was walking in Tigris Street, off Shedden Road, when the male cyclist approached her from behind. He grabbed the necklace and rode off into Myles Lane. Although the woman sustained a slight neck injury during the incident, she did not require any medical treatment. The suspect has been described as being between 15 and 21 years of age, of slim build with a dark complexion.
He had short dark afro hair and was wearing a black shirt and dark coloured pants. The bicycle was also dark in colour.
Anyone who was in the area this morning and witnessed the incident, or the cyclist making off from the scene, is asked to contact DC Terryanne Iton of George Town CID on 325-6705.

12.22 it was not a tourist that was mugged, and although I see your point, don't you think that the island is getting bad enough publicity already without that? The lady herself remarked that the only good thing about the whole thing was that it happened to her, a local, and NOT a tourist.
That would have been a good moment for that poor lady to have a TASER and electricute his stinkin ass period. Done deal!!

As a homeowner in Cayman & a frequent visitor, this is very upsetting. Sounds more like something you hear happening in Jamaica. I hate to think we are headed in that direction. 25 years ago I felt perfectly safe anywhere & anytime of day or night on the island. So sad to see our paradise changing & not for the better as far as morals & character of the locals are concerned.
I'm sorry, but I lived in Jamaica for 15 years – never once had my house broken into, my car broken into, my property vandalised, was never held up or robbed or threatened. I moved to Cayman 6 years ago and 5 weeks after I moved in, my house was broken into and the tyres on my car were slashed. So say whatever you want about Jamaica, but admit that Cayman isn't in any fine shape right now. Jamaica treated me better than Cayman has thus far.

What is your definition of a local? Most of the people committing these crimes are not locals.

Cayman Kind no longer..
A police officer was robbed in my complex a few weeks ago. He was apparently home sleeping while the robberscame in and stole his flat screen. The next morning he was knocking on doors asking if we had seen anything suspicious. I was like fella – you slept through the robbery in ur own apt and you think me in a different building might have seen/heard something at 3am?!?!? His Police car was parked right in front of the apt no less! Thief don't care popo
well honestly, they don't seem to be able to solve one crime between the lot of them. I mean we have more police per head here than almost anywhere else and the incompetency is just amazing.

My mom was telling me about a friend of hers who was robbed recently in Cayman. Apparently, they broke in to his car and stole his Ipod and his bible. When giving his statement to the Popo's he was asked a whopping "6" times by the officer…"'They really stole your bible?" The officer was in disbelief and clearly laughing his ass off on the inside. Things really bad if you gotta steal a bible. That is not the work of God. "Thou shall not steal"

I hate to say it but I hope the victim was a cruise shipper. Then we might see some action taken to do something about our crime problem. God knows RCIPs don't seem interested when a resident is the vitcim of crime.
Would it be great if a candidate in the election promised to stamp out official corruption and spend some of the tens of millions of additional revenue on extra policing so the rest of us can stop living in fear?
12.22, the lady in question was a local not a tourist, and one comment she made was that she was pleased that it was a local it happened to and not a tourist because if it had been it would have been more international bad publicity for the island.
Also, the police department could not be faulted in their handling of this situation, they were polite, attentive and could not have done any more than they did, Two comments though, the 911 operator needs to be quicker and not take so much time over trivial things so that the police can be notified as soon as possible after an incident, a telephone number should be taken and questions like your age, colour of hair, height, and what you had for breakfast can be answered later. The other thing is cameras, the area of the incident is a known "bad" area, but some of us have to go there, and there is not a camera on the pole at the junction of Tigress street and Shedden Road, why not?
