Mac heads for Venice
(CNS): The premier is beginning another overseas trip this week, which will include a trip to the famous Italian canal city of Venice. According to Mckeeva Bush’s press office, he will be visiting the historic city in order to look at a dam built by GLF, the developers who are currently poised to construct the cruise berthing piers in George Town. The premier will begin his travels, however, in Washington to meet US treasury representatives, before heading to New York for tourism strategy related meetings, then to Venice before heading to Dubai to promote the development of the planned technical economic zone.
During the premier’s travels to Italy, aside from reviewing the dam built by GLF to prevent the flooding of Venice, demonstrating the firm’s engineering capabilities, he will also meet with Italian tourism and airline officials to discuss tourism matters, including the possibility of Alitalia code sharing with Cayman Airways.
On Bush’s first port of call on Wednesday in Washington DC he is scheduled for talks with the US Treasury, accompanied by Attorney General Samuel Bulgin, CIMA Chairman George McCarthy, Deputy Chief Officer, Financial Services Samuel Rose and accountant Dan Scott. Next on the agenda will be New York, where, accompanied by MLA Cline Glidden, the premier will attend the Department of Tourism’s Global Marketing Strategies meeting.
After Venice, Bush will head to the Arabian Gulf and Dubai, where he joins the developers of Cayman Enterprise City to promote the special economic zone that is proposed by Hon Development Company. “The premier will participate in a news conference and meet with potential investors, including members of Dubai’s royal family, to discuss the possibility of setting up business in the Cayman Islands,” the press office stated.
While the premier is away, Deputy Premier Juliana O’Connor-Connolly will be acting as premier.

What is McKeeva’s return date/ time?
I want to go to the frigging airport
I understand that His Holiness the Pope has made McKeeva Bush a Cardinal!
This is good news indeed, as now we only required to kiss his ring!
I’m telling you, if you want this to stop… just start showing up at the airport to ‘welcome’ him back
If the people of Cayman truly wanted to put an end to this, it wouldn’t be all that difficult.
He will probably take a taxi over to Monte Carlo to check out Madoff mega yatch. He may also be trying to buy one for himself and get her outfitted, before bringing her home through his North Sound Channel. Watch and see.
Mac’s lavish wasteful foolishness has to STOP! If the Premiere needed to personally visit a GLF project, he did not have to go any further than Tampa Florida! Cayman Airways flies there. To punctuate McKeeva’s foolery, the Tampa project – a ship berthing facility at the Port of Tampa – compares far better to the proposed local GLF project than does a dam in Venice for godssake!
What in the hell is this man thinking? Is he thinking?
Has Bush no self-control? No conscience? No sense of right and wrong? Obviously not. People of this land are hurting financially and this man has made it abundantly clear that he quite obviously does not give one paltry damn. No wonder McKeeva is the most popular butt of jokes and criticism in the country today.
Why is this so-called leader wasting our cash-strapped country’s money so he can enjoy a first-class all-expenses-paid stay in Venice? If Mac absolute had to go to Venice to see a GLF project, one would think he would visit one of the many GLF projects at the Port of Venice. (Or does that make too much sense?) I mean after all we are talking about a port-related project here, right? Am I missing something or is this latest antic not the straw that broke the camel’s back?
We the people of the Cayman Islands are pathetic fools if we continue to stand idly by like impotent ninnies while Mac continues to slap our faces like this! I for one have had more than enough! Am I the only one?
I am giving consideration to starting my own grass-roots protest movement to try and put a stop to things like this, NOW. Is anybody with me on this? Or will we continue to allow this man and his administration to exercise free and unaccountable reign in wasting the country’s money with his "Who-cares? Let them eat cake" mentality?
There is power in numbers; broad non-party-affiliated organisation at a grass roots level is a very potent way to bring about change. Do any Caymanians here love this country enough to leave politricks behind and band together to put a stop to this seriously misguided administration? I am beginning to have grave concerns about the true state of Caymanian’s love of their land. Hearing Caymanians singing "Beloved Isle Cayman" is beginning to sound like mere lip service to me!
A starting point would be formation of a blog or forum where we can band together ideas for demonstrations, protests and political strategy to end this now. And of course we will make jokes aout Mc – lots of jokes. The PPM could be more effective; but Alden and the PPM, for all their "big dog" growling are just pathetic little "rubber squeaking toys", as Mr. Haig was fond of saying. The PPM play politics, and playing is all that it is – nothing the PPM have done thus far has caused Mac to alter his course even a fraction of a degree.
Toppling a horrible government seems well beyond the PPM’s capability, or maybe they just do not care. So we not need them or their games. Ok PPM’ers: care to weigh in on this one? What’s the deal here?
The people can do better without either the UDP or the PPM controlling things. But first things first: the people must see to it that Mac is booted out of office. The sooner the better. The next scheduled election is way too far off. Why is the PPM is not really doing anything about this situation other than talk? My sources have it that the PPM thinks that capitalising on the growing anti-Bush sentiment will be PPM’s strongest card in the coming election. This may be a compelling strategic reason the PPM are reluctant to try to get rid get rid of Mac now: the PPM fears that without Mac as the main point to rally against, the PPM may not form the next government. Using this as a political football is shameful, but why else is the PPM doing nothing more than talking a big game?
Anyway…
It is "Time for a CHANGE!"
Who is with me?
PS: Keep the McKeeva jokes coming! Here’s my contribution: "Cayman’s Premiere is on the next leg of an extended trip overseas. In a speech during his visit to Venice, Premiere Bush vowed to do whatever it takes to keep the Cayman Islands on a path to intelligent politics and economic recovery. In fact he said that he will stay out of the country for as long as necessary."
How many premiers does it take to change alightbulb?
Is it in ________? (Monte Carlo, italy?Las Vegas….etc.?) I’ll take care of it!
get to the airport…
“Why is the PPM is not really doing anything about this situation other than talk?”.
Because there is nothing else it can do.
They cant do anything, no Vavoos, remember how Macjindejab walked in and took over from them 10 years ago. Thats why I dont have faith in the PPM, a lot of talk butno action.
Its proven Alden cant run the country, Macjinedab is screwing it up, so its time for the elected members to step aside and let some other young blood in, at least if they screw it up we can blame it on inexperienced people, right now its egotistical boys trying to do a man’s job.
We want to thank the people of Cayman for electing us 2 years ago. In that time we have traveled many many miles to all of the world’s famous destinations (can’t remember them all). Though we promised we were attracting investments in Cayman we have not been able to find investors. On the bright side we have really enjoyed the 5 star hotels and living the high life. Oh what wonderful memories we have from an African safari to Hong Kong and all in between. Its grand to see the sights of the world and not have to worry about the cost.
Thank you also for all of the perks we enjoy at home too. Having walls built, homes refurbished, new wardrobes, security ( Cayman is dangrous now), travel companions and all the other nice things that we can think of.
We know that we cost Cayman but we are confident that you all are happy for us and you would not want your leaders to live any other way.
A special shout out to the civil servants for taking a pay cut to support our life style. We are so happy that you did not expect us to pay cut. It would have been impossible for us to live on a smaller pay check.
For the remaining 2 years we will continue to travel if we can find any where that we have not already been.
Not to worry when election time comes around again we will be giving out the usual tokens of our appreciation. West Bay: appliances, driveways & special favours. Cayman Brac: Water tanks, parking lots and private rooms in the Hurricane Hilton. Of course if you have a special friend that needs status let us know.
If you will re-elect us in 2013 we promise to stay in Cayman more and try to do something here if we have time.
Again Thank you
#1 Bayer & the barefoot girl
I can stop laughing!!!!!! 1000 thumbs up to you!!!!!
Maybe he is travelling to Venice not to check out the dam but to check out how to build a city on water . Maybe when then North sound is channelled and the island is flooded we can create our own Caribbean Venice and have gondolas instead of taxis on West Bay Road.
Oh no!!! Can you imagine a gondola pulling out in front of a jet ski/boat?
can you imagine a gondola being driven off the ‘road’ when mom is out of the country?
"I’m the Premier and I can do whatever I want. So I’m gonna travel some more ’cause it’s free. Besides.. I’ve never been to Venice. I’ll take a peek at the bridge thing and see the sights."
"Boy are they gonna be pi$$ed."
"Too bad folks. Suck it up."
"I’m down with that. I’ve decided after pulling down an enormous salary AND a pension for the next three years and having my house improved and all my bills paid…..I’m gonna retire from politics!"
"Might as well enjoy it while I can. See ya later!!"
The Premier needs to address the legitimate issues being brought up by your readers not only with the MLA’s but with his people. CNS can you provide a platform for the people of the islands to put forward their specific concerns (consultancy selection, FOI, travel justification/efficiency/effectiveness, CRIME, etc..etc…etc..etc….), log votes similar to regular articles, condense and forward to the leader with invitation to a press conference? Even a refusal will in itself send a message to the people (possibly that Mr. Bush has reconciled himself to this final term).
CNS: You can post any specific concerns in the CNS Forum. Click here to start a new topic or join in an ongoing discussion.
What I find strange is why he is going to Venice to talk to an Engineer / Firm that built a dam to prevent Venice flooding…yet the water level rises every year in Venice and it is inevitable that it will flood?
Secondly, would it not make sense to fly the team in Venice out here so they could actually see what they plan to do frist hand?
Three, it does not take a genius to figure out that if you are trying to attract business, bring them out here to scout the place, Going there with a group of people led by an illiterate person, first class to sight see in my mind does not promote anything. Anybody can do that.
Dont you get it?? If the investors actually came here and saw what this place is REALLY LIKE…they would NEVER come…we have to pull the old "bait and switch"…
I guess conference/video calls are too cheap? What a nerve; what a disgrace. The rest of us cutting corners while he wastes our money travelling the world.
I hope he updates his twitter while he is on his trip and let us know what badness he’s up too!
We all can talk and talk about this but until some actual leaders are willing to step forth to run for office or at least try to take some sort of control, we will have Mac using his position irresponsibly and then acting like a child when he is criticized. He thinks he can do no wrong.
Are you kidding? These politicians here are scared to death of MacKeeva XXXX and he leaves McJuJu here to enforce his wrath if one of them gets out of line!
Pathetic
The Chuckster doesn’t have the baggage that is the “PPM circle of influence” to hold him back and undermine him anymore.
Chuckster I say you must lead this revolution to remove this Premier from office asap……time is of the essence my friend !!!!!!
Mac clearly can’t take the heat at home which hasresulted from all of his public blunders…..this man is such an embarrassment !!!
So lets call this for what it is people……..this is a coping mechanism to deal with all of the stress he’s under.
There is a much simpler and cheaping solution for our country Mr. Premier – RESIGN NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not even the President of United States travel as much as this man. Can we not see that this Castro is taking us for a ride? What in the hell is he going to get out of this trip more that what he would get out of doing his research on the internet?
How can people be so stupid and not see what he is doing?
See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil!:))
When did the Truth and stating the facts become evil?
I think I agree if you’re comment is on the attitude (that everyone seems to be expressing) that "oh, things are terrible, but there’s nothing we can do about it." I’m not from here. There IS nothing I can do about it. For you Caymanian whiners, STFU. Your only reason for wishing for a different government is so you can line up at the next pig trough and maybe get yours.
Most of us do see what he is doing, but until we have some election law changes or the voters of West Bay stop electing him, it will all continue in this abominable fashion.
Well, golly…….. We might get a nice big flood control dam!!!
This man has no shame!
Ahh… Big Mac and his other frequent flyers traveling AGAIN!!! These travels around the world are never ending! But you what they say… ‘When the heat is too much- you got to get out of the kitchen’.
I (and the public) would love to know how much this trip/vacation/waste money costing the publics purse?
The Premier goes to Venice!?
<Insert gondola joke here.>
in other news, El Commandante has announced personal family savings of over $500,000 for the month of February in family travel-related expenses alone. When asked about the purpose of his trip to Venice, El Commandante repliedthat ever since he was a little boy he was very fond of those gamma ray guns that Venusians and Martians shot at each other with. The Beaver
I get it!! He’s going to balance the budget with frequent flyer points. This is too comical. I’ll wager he spends more time thinking up reasons to travel than on any government business. Obviously as he is quoted as saying he is NOT responsible for government finances. He’s made that quite clear.
When the going gets tough.. the tough go overseas!
Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask when the next flight is.
Waste of the peoples money.
So true Mr McTavish!
Mr. Big Mac proved again what a buffoon he ready is, after last night on CITN this man needs to be shut down once and for all locked away.
Anyone that dares to have an opinion is wrong. He further confirms he’s not fit to lead – we need to be brought down, yes this "one man" government has to go sooner than later.
I can’t believe this man is representing these islands overseas, what they must think after meeting him. LOL
New slogan LET’S GET RID OF BIG MAC n DA fries.
The bigger question is, however, how can the othe members of the Government, in particular Mark Scotland, Mike Adam, and Rolston Anglin, who are purportedly intelligent people, continue to sanction this type of behaviour? Are they too spineless to say to fearless McDredge to stop this squandering of money? Do they subscribe to the absulutely shameful behaviour on TV night before last?
I hope they realise that they are being painted with the same briush and that when the time comes, Cayman will simply not forget. Let’s just hope and pray that the time for their elimination from power is soon. Egypt did it. Why cant’ we?
The "reasons" offered as justifications for this luxury travel are such a crock. I am surprised that there was not a visit to Paris Disneyland so that the Premier could confer with Mickey Mouse. – Sorry I forgot, Mickey asks too many questions.
Wa go on here??? I thought we were broke?????
Absolutely disgraceful behavior by the Premier again.
This man really needs to be removed.
Opposition….Please for the love of country….oppose!….strongly!….now….please!
The ‘Honourable’ Premier? Absolutely nothing remotely honourable in that performance. Complete arrogance with a multitude of doodles to complete throughout and being personally insulted if anybody else had a question or comment against the grain.
The honourable? I’ve become increasing troubled by the legitimacy with which many cayman islands ‘royals’ claim this title, so I looked it up. CNS, please please bear with me…
Wikipedia says in the Caribbean, only recipients of the order of the Caribbean community can use it…:
"Order of the Caribbean Community
The Order of the Caribbean Community is an award given to

I don’t see his name on the list, I don’t think he’s the son of English aristocracy, and so surely this is another example of self-grandeur that the Cayman people don’t need to tolerate?
CNS, please post this one, I think it illustrates yet more to persuade the Cayman people to actually do something rather than just writing ineffective comments…
Her Royal Highness McJuJu ain’t on that list either!
Opposition? I’m TIRED of swapping out one greedy bloated group for the other!!! Both SPEND all our money on cronies and contracts without regard to improving our children’s education and future.
I don’t want to see PPM or UDP in power, these SAME politicians are the reason our civil service and finances have run amuck. I’d rather have direct rule than another greedy politician. With only 55,000 people we are too small for a party system.
Where are the business leaders? PLEASE step forward to represent us for 4 years and get these buffoons OUT. The wealthy and wise of Cayman should give back and give us their expertise to balance the budget and offer some reality. I’d LOVE to see Cayman run like a business instead of a beehive.
Dear ‘Locals second choice,’ I write to represent all bees of Cayman. If you ran your Government like one of our hives, you’d always have spare honey at budget time. All your workers would be fully employed and happy, and your boss would stay at home, taking care of business. I can be contacted on HIVE 456
If we knew when he was returning, we could all go out and greet him at the airport.
How about making a request for MacDaffi to remain in one of these countries, and when he has settled send his cronies – positively speaking, we will have a “Worry free Cayman Islands”. Our meetings will be attended, the budgets will balance, crime & importation will be reduced, our LA meetings will be civil, Ezzard & Arden will have a chance to speak on any Motion and miracles will be performed by the people and our successors who can understand and say “NO” to Investors.
It would be even funnier if we could paint it red before he got there
Somebody please shoot me !
14:15 you made my evening. I had a good laugh. I am so upset to know, that once again, that embarrassment has lifted off from our shores, to travel abroad to display his ignorance and be-little the Caymanian people. It is a shame and disgrace to have an individual with limited mentality globe trotting in the name of progress, investment and prosperity, searching every corner of the earth for what he cannot find. He has tried every trick and the devil, just wont let loose.
When are we going to start the Cayman Revolution??? It is time to get those wasters out now. We need a change, put the dictator out and return todemocratic rule. Now is the accepted time, do not procrastinate.
foolishness foolishness
I was a faithful UDP and Mac/JuJu supporter but that was then, this is now. They have done nothing for the Cayman Islands but spend money and I am finished with them. And no, I am not going over to the dark side…..i.e Moses and the PPM. We need NEW BLOOD! Caymanians need to demand better results from our leaders!
The PPM may not be perfect but Kurt Tibbetts was not a national embarrassment as is the current leader, McKeeva Bush, so if the PPM is the dark side what would one term the UDP?
Don’t get all up in my grill about how righteous the PPM was. They didn’t do anything while they were in gov’t and they spent money like it was going out of style. The only reason that the PPM even got elected in was because they promised to reverse the status grants (knowing they couldn’t do it but it sounded good). You people fell for it and really believed they would take ’em away! HA! The PPM really thought they were the ones who were going to take advantage of the new constitution and poor Kurt missed his opportunity to be a premier! If the PPM would have gotten in last election, they’d be doing the same crap that the UDP is doing right now – traveling and spending the people’s money. Only difference, they wouldn’t be thinking up all the smoke screens to keep the people in awe, they’re too stupid to think of all these schemes that MacKeeva & McJuJu are spinning.
There is no one on the Brac to stand behind. But I wouldn’t vote for Moses either.
Dude, you clearly already threw your support behind the “dark side”. Say what you like about the PPM but they were good, honest, stable people.
The Brac aint that big, who would you suggest?
Give me one example of inward investment directly related to the Premier’s worldwide travels. In return, I’ll give you a list of the companies that have shifted off island or gone bankrupt while he’s been away.
The Premier has been on a “first class travel” binge ever since he was elected and not ONE single investor has come here from it. Without a doubt, he is also paying for Barry Hon and his entourage to attend as well. If we had invested the money the Premier has spent taking “friends and family” on overseas junkets we could have purchased all of the things he keeps hoping that he will find someone else to purchase and give him.
Is he the world’s most traveled premier or what?
Is it possible to do a comparison of his travels with that of Barck Obama and Hilary Clinton?
I would venture to say if a comparison was made that McKeeva has travelled more in the past two years than Barack and Hilary combined
Mac will probably ask the US Treasury if they would like him to keep some of their money in his CI Treasury. lol.
What a Charlatan – Oh, am I allowed to say that or is that defamation too just like his twitter poster??
Please, please people of Cayman – someone who cares… make this person accountable for his wreckless jollies!!
Its like Charles Clifford said on Rooster yesterday morning…..this Premier has created more reputational issues for our country with all of his ill-advised and careless statements that we all ought to be seriously concerned about this and prepared to take action !
Mac must be removed from office quickly……lets do this Cayman !!!!
Oh my, he will behave over there as he did on that TV talk show last night – what an embarrassment!
Oh Jesus father no !!!!
Please stop putting this national embarrassment in front on the International Community……..and talking to the US Treasury…..well I know we’re finished now !!!!!!!!!!!
Help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As mentioned before, I too would like to know when McKeeva aquired him Marine Engineering qualification. You could send me to the Nasa space station and i would probably think that it looks great…you ask me what more that 80 percent of the structure costs or does or whether its necessary…im pretty sure i wont have a clue. Another waste of finances.
Now tell me sumtin… with all dis technology that we have in the world, why he can’t call in by video??? Nooooooo…unna got’s to SEE THE WORLD nuh???
God don’t like it one bit!
Our esteemed Premier needs to look NOFURTHER than Mexico and Honduras for our cruise ship pier, PERIOD!
I just went on a Western Caribbean cruise as a Caymanian to satisfy my curiosity and am sad to report that both Cozumel and Roatan both have better cruise ship docking than we do.
We do NOT need to grease t-shirt shop owners, we do NOT need to give Dart his own shopping mall, we do NOT need to have a HUGE budget, GREED, and construction contracts for buddies.
We only need a long cement pier just like the ones in Mexico and Honduras.Tourists simply walk out of the secure area and into the shops….could not be simpler folks. I urge you to look for cruise sales and see for yourself.
Maybe MAC and the small fries could stay closer to home and look at AN ECONOMICAL PROJECT FOR CRUISE SHIP BERTHING??????
Could contribute a bag and a half of cement left over from a tiling project if that would help::))
great.. now is the time to start revolution…..rolston this your time! if you don’t do it now you will sink with mac at the next election…..
He na got the b—s
This UDP government will bankrupt us one way or another. By travel or bad decisions it makes little difference. It’s still a race to the bottom. I do not believe this country can last their full term. The Cayman Islands will die the death by a thousand cuts from UDP politicians that have to fool you to rule you and they only care about big money. Since it seldom comes here, they chase it down. No matter where in the world our fearless leader will find them and make deals that are bad for the environmental, economicalhealth of our country. You know it’s bad when chairman of important committees don’t even meet to work on our country’s business. We have become a banana republic without a major crop of Bananas. I have never felt so hurt and ashamed of my leadership. As for Elio, smooth as oil on a blister, I will never ever trust him again with my vote.
What a waste that man is.
Clearly Mac has a marine engineering degree he has been keeping secret! I’m looking forward to reading his report on the GLF dam construction.
The only thing that comes to mind is Dean Martin’s – An evening in Roma.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8iGvX6rdC9g
really, at this point, what else can we say?
Enjoy the song.
Not the guy you want talking to US Treasury Representatives
True. If he doesn’t like the questions they ask, he will pick up his papers and leave!
She won’t be acting for too long before she takes off to search for more cell phones!!LOL. What a mess we are in. This government has spent more money traveling in the last two years than the PPM spent in the 4 years they were in. Our country can’t be so broke as the UDP gov. said we were because it sure don’t look that way. Somebody made a big screw up with what money the PPM gov. left, looks like they left a whole lot more than this gov. say that was left, for they can really travel up and down, to the farest parts of the world, and they have to have a lot of company to take along. Have mercy on us dear God you are our only hope now. PPM wake up and take your country back NOW.
I’m getting ready to build my house and want to use GLF too, can the people of Cayman pay for me to go so I can view the dam as well. Pictures and internet just won’t do. Besides didn’t you know a dam is so much like my house and a cruise berthing pier, because it’s on the water.
We will all be near water soon – trouble is when the North Sound Channel is finished – we will be under it -no need for a dam!
Can we ask one of these countries to PLEASE keep/buy the premier? COD no returns or refunds. He’s guaranteed to provide the new country with 100% bullsh*t. Special con artist feature, 120 % chance of failing everything, XXXX. Also Caymanian Easter special, buy one get one FREE, we’ll pitch in our wonderful deputy along with him. No country should pass up this deal of the century! For more info call 1-800-BUY-MAC for more details.
Someone said they are starting up a Jackass exchange program soon.
well at least, he gets a vacation break from the pressures building against him on the North Sound Channel. I watched News 27 and although he was a bit frustrated from callers, they were some who showed him no respect as well. I guess time will tell of the value of this project. Like Mac said, if the environmental study says NO, then he will say NO to contructing a channel – simple!
You really believe that BS! When the poor Constitutional Commissioners can’t offer a suggestion, you tell me who can tell him no? You crazy? To do that is the unpardonable sin. You lose your job for that.
Again!! and why all these people have to also go? What are these trips costing?
Seriously?
If he carries on the way he did last night on Cayman 27 were are f*****!
I hope he doesnt go to any sit downs with his post it notes in tow, they might have to book another seat.
When, oh when, will this craziness stop???
Only when the West Bayers become smart enough to stop voting him in and the rest of the island stop voting in his "party favors" in the other districts. I challenge you all to make a difference and lets get these people out of office before the next election. By 2013 it will be too late. XXXXX, we will all be jobless and destitute and holed up in our homes from crime and they won’t give a monkeys behind. They probably won’t even be here! Put them out now! I say get rid of the wimpy governor and chief of police as well and lets start this over and see if we can get it right. England you must be able to do better than this???? This island is becoming a disgrace of a territory.
