Updated restaurant guide arrives on Island
(CNS): The deputy premier was the first to receive a copy of Good Taste 2010, which arrived on Cayman this week. Accepting her copy of Cayman’s definitive dining and entertainment guide from Charles Grover, Publishing Director at Acorn Publishing, Julianna O’Connor-Connolly noted that, in its efforts to develop the tourism product in Cayman, the government was actively trying to promote the sophisticated Cayman restaurant scene and the variety of restaurants in Cayman as a key component of its tourism product. “The Good Taste magazine and website are major tools in helping us achieve this goal,” the DP said.
O’Connor-Connolly added, “I am delighted to have received the first copy of the 2010 edition of the Good Taste magazine, particularly as Good Taste is such an excellent resource for both residents and visitors to choose from the diverse culinary options available in Cayman.”
Grover said, “The magazine and Good Taste website (www.caymangoodtaste.com) feature virtually all the bars, restaurants and cafes on Grand Cayman. However with so many new restaurants opening and closing in Cayman over the last year it has been difficult to keep track of all the changes. This year we have added 20 establishments that were not featured last year, completely updated all the existing details, including menus and obviously removed the details of the places that have sadly closed down.”
Other sections that have been completely updated include: the Event Planning section, which is intended to be a guide to help anyone arranging special events from weddings, to private parties, to corporate events; and the glossary which helps explain some of Cayman’s more interesting culinary terminology.
Joanna Boxall, the owner of Acorn Publishing said, “As well as updating the magazine, we will be significantly upgrading the website to make it even more useful for residents. Currently the website allows: full menus to be viewed and searched using the unique menu search capability; online reservations can be made; people can look at special offers and reviews; and we will shortly be adding the ability for people to order food online and have it delivered to your home, condo or office.”
Continuing its support for local artists, Acorn Publishing commissioned Jo Austin, an artist based in Cayman, to paint the new front cover for the magazine. Joanna Boxall said, “We asked Jo to design this year’s cover to be enticing and to capture the essence of dining in Cayman. Jo chose to paint the terrace at Luca and we are really pleased with her work. Every year we auction the original artwork for the magazine at the Rotary Camelot auction and then give the proceeds to their Meals on Wheels programme.”
Island wide distribution of the magazine will start immediately. In total 70,000 copies of the Good Taste magazine will be distributed on and off Island during the year, making it the most widely distributed magazine in the Cayman Islands. The magazine can be picked up for free at the airport, car rental agencies, shopping plazas, hotel concierges, supermarkets and over 350 other distribution points on the Island.
