Product recall: Slim-Fast® Ready-to-Drink products

| 05/12/2009

Cayman islands news island weather classifieds business financial services(CNS): Foster’s Food Fair IGA has proactively pulled all Slim-Fast® Ready-to-Drink products in cans from their shelves following a voluntary recall by Unilever United States, Inc., in cooperation with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). A release from Fosters says the move is to ensure the safety and well being of their customers. The recall is due to the possibility of contamination with Bacillus cereus, a micro-organism, which may cause diarrhea and possibly nausea and/or vomiting. However, the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.

According to the FDA website, the products are packaged in paperboard cartons and contain four, six or 12 steel cans that are 11 FL OZ (325 mL) each. Individual cans are also sold in certain retail outlets. The recall involves all Slim-Fast® RTD products in cans, regardless of flavor, Best-By date, lot code or UPC number.

No other Slim-Fast® products are affected by this recall. No Slim-Fast® powdered shakes, meal bars, or snack bars are affected by this recall.

The recall was initiated after the company conducted quality testing on Slim-Fast® RTD products in cans. Out of an abundance of caution, the company is recalling all RTD products in cans that are currently in distribution centers, on-shelf or in back rooms in retail outlets or in consumers’ homes. The company is in the process of identifying and correcting the production issue, and will resume production and shipment of the product when the issue has been addressed and correctedt

Fosters said that, until they have a guarantee of the safety of the effected Slim-Fast® Ready-to-Drink products in cans, these products will not be available in any of their stores. "We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, however the safety and well being of our customers is our top priority," the release said.

Foster’s Food Fair IGA would also like to encourage all customers who have purchased Slim-Fast® Ready-to-Drink products, to please return the effected product to their Foster’s Food Fair IGA of purchase for a full refund.

Pity….I wonder how long it will take for the product to get back on the shelves. I liked drinking my slim fast. Not sure I lost any weight but it made me feel as though I was making an effort to drop some pounds…..

    KFC ANNOUNCES RECALL

KFC Corporation today announced the recall of 17,000,000,000,000 servings of Extra Crunchy Value Dinners because trace amounts of nutrients were found in some of the meals.  "We will continue to monitor the situation and remove all nutrients" said spokesperson Ovar Wait. "We aplogize for this oversight, and anyone who finds nutrients in their meal can return it for a snack pack of chicken nuckles".

It’s not like the recall of Slimfast would effect many on the island. As we all know there are very few weight concious consumers who would purchase it. Now if there was a  recall of KFC we would have a massive problem.
