TD#16: more rain expected
(CNS): Update 10:29pm – The Cayman Islands will continue to experience overcast skies with periods of heavy showers and another 2 to 4 inches of rainfall are likely during the next 24 hours leading to extensive flooding of low lying areas, Hazard Management CI said Tuesday evening. Residents of these areas should continue to take the necessary precautions. At 10:00pm local time TD#16 was located at 21.9N 81.9W or about 184 miles NW of Grand Cayman and moving towards the NE at 8 mph with maximum sustained Winds of 35 mph. Strong southwesterly winds reaching tropical storm force at times, and rough seas with wave heights of 8 to 10 feet are expected over our area.
The south and west coasts of our Islands will experience heavy wave action and some beach erosion.All boating interests should remain in safe harbour until further notice
The CI National Weather Service will continue to monitor the progress of this system, and all residents are urged to stay tuned to the local media for further updates.

Don’t panic!!!! Wow, a bit of rain anda stiff breeze and the Government and all it’s employees shut down and go home. It’s a good job the private sector take a different view.
It is almost 6 am and it would sure be helpful if the Cayman Prepared website could have been updated ovenight with useful information, especially for those of us living in the outer districts who need to plan our business days! Regrettably there is nothing there since 4 pm yesterday. .. another day in paradise.

A tropical storm warning means Tropical storm force winds are occurring or are expected within 24 hours. The Government did not declare it a tropical storm, read the release, they declared a tropical storm warning. they are two different things.
Will anybody be blaming Government for this flooding LOL
Can’t govt heed to the NHC ruling? By gov’t advising of a tropical storm this has lead to school closures causing disruption in traffic, childcare and work.
I’m sure this could have waited until the 4:00 pm advisory to alleviate any unnecessary disruption of the community.
NHC has declared this system to be a tropical depression. Why then has the Cayman Islands Government declared it to be a tropical storm.
A tropical storm warning has been declared – not a tropical storm. Tropical storm conditions are expected within the next 36 hours. Conditions could likely get worse and the government decided they would pass that on to us. Damn nice of them in my opinion.
Tropical Depression or Tropical Storm, it does not matter. What it is certain is that it will rain a lot, all of Cayman will get flooded and only God knows how we will get home this afternoon.

Very funny!! I meant the lot of us who don’t have SUV’s and have to get our cars through 12" deep puddles on the way home, praying that the car won’t stall and die in the middle of them.

TD#16 is now at 35 mph. Cuba, Bahamas and Florida have also issued warnings.
A Tropical Storm Warning is an announcement that tropical storm conditions (sustained winds of 39 to 73 mph) are expected somewhere within the specified coastal area within 36 hours.
Some people just have something to say about everything.
A tropical storm warning means tropical storm force winds are expected within the next 24 hours (similarly, a watch is within 36 hours). The system doesn’t have to be at the same category of intensity when the watch/warning is issued, it means the system is forecast to intensify and affect Cayman within 36/24 hours.
