Marine warning discontinued as Paula weakens

(CNS): As Hurricane Paula headed towards Cuba this evening the marine warning in the Cayman Islands was discontinued. The hurricane poses no immediate threat to the Cayman Islands and is located around 320 miles NW of Grand Cayman, but the national weather services said it will continue to monitor the progress of this system over the next few days. According to the NHC the storm is currently moving toward the north-northeast at a mere three miles per hour as it moves towards western Cuba. Hurricane Paula has weaken to a category one hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 85 mph with higher gusts and further weakening is expected during the next day or two.

Paula remains a small hurricane with hurricane force winds extending outward up to only 10 miles from the centre while tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 60 miles.
