Bushes set off for royal do

| 26/04/2011

(CNS): Cayman’s premier and his wife headed to London Tuesday to represent the islands at Friday’s royal wedding, when Prince William will marry his long time girlfriend, Catherine Middleton. McKeeva and Kerry Bush will be taking with them a gift made by local artist Horacio Esteban. Although the details of the wedding present are being kept under wraps until after it has been handed over to the royal couple, Esteban is known for his work with the islands’ unique and rare stone Caymanite. The Bushes will be attending the wedding ceremony at Westminster Abbey along with around 1,900 people.

Only around 650 people have been invited to the lunchtime champagne reception at Buckingham Palace given by the Queen after the ceremony. Then about 300 close family and friends will attend the dinner in the evening hosted by the Prince of Wales.

Although the wedding is not an official state occasion the guest list for the service includes numerous heads of state, governor generals, British politicians, leaders of various faiths, as well as royals from all over the world. The palace has said the couple had worked with officials to create the list, which includes their own royal and common relatives, as well as friends and celebrities.

After the royal do Bush will be heading to Vancouver in Canada to attend the Risk and Insurance Management Society Annual Conference. Officials from the premier’s office did not say who would be attending the Canadian conference with Bush but stated that “insurance is an important sector of Cayman’s financial services industry.”

The premier’s press secretary said that Bush will be hosting a reception at the conference to promote the Cayman Islands to participants.

I am just curious as why to why the premier of all people was invited to go to the royal wedding instead of our Governor Duncan Taylor. I am interested to know the answer if anybody can tell me.

Excuse me Mr. I, can I call you Mr. I? i would probably be censured if I say what the I stands for but anyways to answer your questions..He is the PREMIER of the Cayman Islands whether you like it or not and of course the obvious reason is that the crown wants to recognise its dependant territories. If any further explanations required please do let me know?

Jeez ,  relax sackmore.  The person was just asking a question.

if you were really curious you would know that Bermuda,Anguilla and the BVI will also have their premiers at the wedding…..

    • anon says:

It is the position of Premier that has been invited to the wedding – not the person – if the wedding was 3 years ago, it would be Kirk going instead. The Governor is a representative of the Queen – he is a civil servant, where-as the Premier is the leader of the country.

Congrats to the Mr and Mrs Bush on their Royal invitation! Obama would love to have one by now. Enjoy it on behalf of all the haters on this forum…

Could someone please give him a crash course in etiquette, grammar and other things to quickly bring him up to speed with not sounding trashy? Further, he needs a speech writer, ghost writer. Any help possilbe to not have him be the voice of the Cayman Islands. Time for a new Govt. anyone? Whatever happened to Truman Bodden?

I guess if they left on Tuesday they shouldn’t be late for the wedding. I wonder if they are planning on camping out in the church until friday, but probably not, this gives them more time to relax at a five star hotel until friday and ensure that thay can maximise the trips expenses, living the high life and splurging on the poor Caymanian people. After all there is nothing to do on this little two by four Island but go to the bank at the end of the month and collect a huge paycheck.

I wonder who is paying for the trip to London and Canada. Did he really need to go represent Cayman for a wedding? To me that is pleasure not business.

    • MER says:

If he didn’t pay for his own fence hun, you think he will be paying 6,000 for return first class tickets for himself and spouse to see the future king marry? Highly doubt it! This trip alone will cost more than the average family’s annual income!

I can’t decide if he poses the greatest danger when he travels to waste our money and display his ignorance, or stays home to waste our money and plot the destruction of our environment.

Despite the heavy price we pay, I’m starting to prefer the brief periods of peace and tranquility that exists in his absence.

    more wasting of money.

    • A Guilty Pleasure says:

OMG, how embarrassing. I pray that they keep him as far out of sight as possible! I’ve had enough of him embarrassing the Cayman people already. I can’t take anymore. Please put him way at the back & out of sight, please (for our sake).

    • Lachlan MacTavish says:

It is simply amazing…Mr. Bush has decided to make running our little domain into his personal first class life style. He travels FIRST class at YOUR expense. Is this this ok with you? , the voters of Cayman? You get NOTHING in return.

AT LEAST NOTHING WILL BE DONE IN HIS ABSENCE

for under his one man rule dictatorship no-one else can make decisions.

Its time for a coup d’etat  just like what he did to our Kurt in 2001.  Caymanians enough is enough it is time to take back our country.

    RECLAIM OUR DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS

If you can rustle up 2 UDP members with the courage to do whats right I wish you luck.

  11. Roadblogger says:

Cayman will just have to try to muddle through while the Premier is away. I know it won’t be easy and there will be some degree of panic as Cayman flounders around while he works to promote the island. But calm heads must prevail until the dark days are gone and he returns. He’s gone?  He’s not listening?  Yahoo!!!! I feel better already. Is it possible to move the island? How much time have we got? If everyone rowed…..

    • Anonymous says:

Ah yes, but it’s better they have a piece of this island for safe keeping as it might soon be gone. We’ll just be something to tell their royal offspring about when this rock sinks beneath the rising waters.

  12. Anonymous says:

Actually, Prince William and Miss Middleton stated "no wedding gifts". Instead they request a donation to their charitable foundation http://www.royalweddingcharityfund.org/

    • Anonymous says:

McKeeva is also a charitable foundation to which the people of the Cayman Islands make charitable donations, whether we want to our not.

This is very true – Mac not reading the small print again !

And since when is he the islands Insurance expert – surely there is at least one more qualified person that can attend ? You really think Premiers will be in attendanceat this gig – sounds like the phone expo all over !

    • Anonymous says:

      Bobo/Tete,

Dah would mean somebody have would have to be able to understand what they read! You really have high expectations. 😛

    • MER says:

Another fine example of the Premier not listening to a word anyone has to say and instead doing as he pleases when he pleases.

  14. Concerned Caymanian says:

I’m not sure why they had to leave today for a Friday wedding. They travel enough that jet lag shouldn’t be a problem!

    London, then Canada.

We can write this one off as can’t be sold, when the next Government comes in and tries to sell all these airline tickets and hotel stays.
