Loaded gun found after fire
CNS): Officers from the RCIPS K-9 unit found a loaded handgun this weekend following a brush fire in Governors Harbour in the early hours of Friday morning. Police said Wednesday that officers also recovered the charred remains of a bag which is believed to have been stolen during a robbery in West Bay on the previous night. The discovery was made after the fire service had responded to a report of the fire at around 12.10 am on 6 April on an open lot in North Magellan Quay. After the fire was extinguished and the stolen bag discovered police officers conducted an extensive search of the brush area with dogs and recovered the firearm nearby.
The robbery had taken place less than an hour before the fire at around 11.40 pm on Thursday night outside an address in Willie Farrington Drive.
A woman who was getting out of her car was approached by two masked men armed with what appeared to be handguns. They demanded the woman's handbag which she handed over before running away. These suspects who were described as tall with light brown complexion wearing masks were believed to have left the scene in a dark coloured sedan heading towards George Town.
A police spokesperson said that enquiries are ongoing into the weapon and the robbery.Anyone who was in the area of North Magellan Quay around the relevant time on Friday and has any information which could assist the investigation is asked to contact George Town police station on 949-4222, the RCIPS tip-line on 949-7777 or Crime Stoppers 800-8477(TIPS).

Jeeze……all the moaning classes of this island make my mind boggle. Bottom line is the RCIP got one more gun out of circulation. To me that equals a result. Congrats to the RCIP. End of story.
Why are the tinted plate covers even allowed??
I don't understand that either, especially as I was just told my car can't pass inspection without license plate lights…..maybe i'll just get a tinted plate cover.
Yes, Why ARE they allowed!?!?
Strange that they started a fire with the stolen property minutes after committing the crime, and tossed the gun nearby where it could easily be found. Inept, out of their heads or are they just not concerned about a police response? The fact that it hasn't been solved probably answers that question.
Seems like a good quick result.
Am I reading correctly that the RCIPS is unable to match a vehicle license plate to its owner ?
I have read this article over just to find any hint of your sad story of "RCIPS is unable to match a vehicle license plate to its owner" and I could not find it in this story. Can you tell us what is the purpose of fabricating stories? Haven't you done enough with Bush? Give the police a break.
Congratulations to the police for a job well done so far. One less gun on our streets.
I agree. CNS, you are rightly pretty liberal with what you publish (free speech and all that) but surely something that’s downright mischievous (or just dense?) and plain wrong shouldn’t get through?
I've had this problem. The Police can eventually match plate to owner, but it involves a coordinated effort between RCIPS and Vehicle Licencing Department computer systems and duty shifts to do so (ie. days not seconds). Meanwhile…
We have got to stop these Godless people from bringing their drugs, guns and corrupt ways to our islands. There must be a way to screen people to make sure only good, Christian people come here!
Sad
Are you sure that you are a local person, or a christian, or a UDP suporter? I think that you are just making jokes at our expence with our gun crimes.
I have known enough "christians" in my time to know that "christians" don't practice half of the principles they force on others, yet we still give them credit for "trying". Get off your power trip fostered by your imaginary friend and just let good people in(Rich or Poor, Religious or not)…if in fact you can act professional, objectiveand unbiased without your sense of "good" being warped be your pet-peeves or personal philosophy.
This person is not a Christian or a UDP supporter. He is only winding you up and you have taken the bait.
Or good Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, pagans, Zoroastroists etc
What is it with Magellan Quay?
Magellan Quay?? One of these days some of you are going to be surprized to see who are the criminals of Magellan Key.
Police are chasing after the wrong people. In plain words they are barking up the wrong trees. Do you really think all that glitters is gold. You would be surprised of the little spoilt children who do not need to rob.
If you know who they are, do us all a favour and report them.
11:23 are you gone coconuts, Why should that person report them. THEY HAVE GUNS. Let the police do their job and look beyond the waters of Mallegan Key.
Let their parents turn them in, LMAO.
We stand up to save beaches and roads, but sit quiet for robberies and murders
a nice slogan … care to quantify just what you mean?
If we were as vocal on stopping crimes as we are on how much the governement deals and plans will hurt us maybe we can see changes. Voice your frustrations to your leaders the same way by marching and protesting. If you see wrong doing, report it. I'm not against the activist groups just want to see the same effort against crime.
Ya, we sit quiet for robberies and murders, cause we cant have guns to protect ouselves.
WOW! They actually recovered some stolen goods? That is fantastic!! Now they need to match the prints on the gun and bag with the person/s. Find these robbers as the robberies are continuing in broad daylight still.
Yes, the fire and smoke signals helped a little bit. In fact, from the way the article reads, the fire service pointed this out to the keystone cops.
Neon signs with flashing lights in the shape of a hand pointing will be used next week to help the Royal Cayman Islands Police Farce.
Finger print every cat and dog on island. Why, only finger print work permit holders? I have nothing to hide, if they want to foot print me I am available.
Where are the cameras that we paid millions of dollar for?
If there were any plates on that vehicle, you can bet they'd be obscured by a tinted plate cover – not that the RCIPS could match a plate number to an owner even if they had one! With current systems, they cannot!
don't tell us you expect to get something every time we spend a million dollars. some times we're nation building and the results are not of this world…. or your world.
