UK OT minister heads for Cayman Islands
(CNS): The UK’s minister with responsibility for Britain’s overseas territories will be visiting the Cayman Islands this week. Although no official itinerary of Henry Bellingham’s trip has yet been released, CNS understands that the FCO minister will be arriving on Wednesday. Sources also tell CNS that he will not only be meeting with government officials but also with the activists opposing the proposed ForCayman investment Alliance between government and Dart. Bellingham will be visiting Cayman as part of a visit to other territories in the region. Cayman’s deputy premier will not be meeting with the UK boss, however, as she will be in Tonga on commonwealth parliamentary association business.

The UK does not want the Cayman Islands to get out of the financial mess that we are in, and the projects presently on the table will prevent the tax measures that they want to see implemented so of course they will try to stop the projects and the serialprotestors to every project and negative posters to this site can pride themselves in having done their part to bring about the demise of Cayman Islands.

Excellent news! Perhaps we can persuade him that there is some scope for the UK to intervene in procurement and development issues where what is proposed is manifestly adverse to the interests of the country. The PPM even negotiated into the Constitution that the Governor must act in the best interests of the Cayman Islands (except where the UK's interest precedes – which it doesn't in this case). In choosing the Constitution we did, we did not envisage the UK would wash its hands of us entirely. That's what they did in Bermuda and they swore there would never be another Bermuda. Perhaps they don't realise this and they don't realise they are begging for another TCI if they don't act now. This doesn't mean we want to be taken over but the laws already in force should be used to their fullest extent, procedures must be observed, and value for money has to mean commercial value – we will not be sold out for less than we are worth.
hopefully this will be a wake up call for the governor…

Saving our concerned citizens travel expense and boy the UDP must be shaking in their shoes….since Mr.Billingham is not even meeting with the high echelons? I think democracy is on its way……. Just what we need some god ole UK intervention.

At the meeting held last week by the activists it was mentioned
during the last visit by UK representatives, they had attended a meeting
with forCayman alliance members.
Now that's been exposed, they want to play we are neutral.

I only hope he is coming to give us his blessings on our planed developments. I don"t think England wants us to go bust, it means they will for the first time, have to give us millions to keep the country's business afloat.The English are no fools, they been around for a long time.
It also means for the first time in history, a small group of people wants to halt our development, which for 35 years, have made Cayman what it is today.
Mr. Bellingham, please sign all the documents for these development, the majority of us are depending on the spin off businesses, that they will create.

I guess the Activists can be active in telling the UK minister that developers and well off folk here have more power than ordinary people. They can go through planning and with ease dredge a canal, destroy all the wild life they want, despite the entire neighborhood opposing it. Also, I am sure he has not come here on vacation, but during the time the CCTV camaras are up and running.
