Mac defers critical meeting to Wednesday
(CNS): As the country waits on tenterhooks for the premier to clarify his position on the controversial expat tax proposal, he announced the postponement of a critical public meeting on the subject Monday afternoon. At 3:50pm the premier’s office circulated a notification that the meeting planned for this evening about the issue would be cancelled and rescheduled as a result of the poor weather conditions. As rain beat down on Grand Cayman, Bush said discussions on what he has termed the Community Enhancement Fee and the government’s 2012/13 budget would be rescheduled for Wednesday night at 7:30 at Mary Miller Hall in George Town.
The entire community will now have to wait a further two days to hear whether Bush has finally been persuaded that there are other options to the imposition of direct taxation on work permit holders or if the 10% take from those with annual earnings of $36,000 and above will stick.
Check back to CNS later for more on the proposals made by the local business group, the social media activists and others.

Anyone who attends this meeting is just enabling him.
If the story has any substance, can we please know how many Cayman Government hangers-on, other than the official representatives, traveled to London for the Olympics. For how long have they gone, in what Class did they fly, in which hotel did they stay, and what price did they pay for event tickets – some have been selling for over CI$ 1000 – what was the total cost of this ” LONDON 2012 JOLLY “.
FOI Request?
Possible reason for the delay……one big honkin' hangover after the Jamaican party.
But tax it’s in te budget he sent to uk last week…..
Maybe he put the wrong address and it never got there?
Not even google could help us find that budget we supposedly have that was supposedly sent to the uk
Maybe we should make a local batmanmovie to raise some money, we all know wo can play the joker
Déjà vu anyone?

SMH…………..
So is the meeting really postponed because Mac has gone to Jamaica to celebrate with them and Mark Scotland and a delegation are spending MORE of our money at the olympics?
Macis like that girl who just won’t go away
meow
maybe he's writing his resignation speech.
Nope, someone will write it for him.
Well what a surprise – doubt if anybody could possibly have predicted that turn of events. I suspected Challo might not be the sharpest tool on the bench – who in their right mind would issue an OFFICIAL notice as bush’s Press Secretary, that the meeting was postponed because of. “inclement weather “, when everybody knows bush is in Jamaica to parteee, parteee, ….
Just tell us- is it true that the tax has been scrapped or not? You don't need fine weather to answer a simple question that affects the entire country. What is Mac playing at now? Does he not think we have a right to know what's going on?
oh, it's scrapped. It just hasn't been scrapped by bush
That damn reeeeen again, stops everything in its tracks.
The weather didn't keep him from partying in Jamaica this weekend.
REAALLY????
What was his plan all along, scheduling this meeting while we were expecting a hurricane? DUMBA$$!
Dumbass? …… or clever nincompoop?
Business hates uncertainty and risk.
Business always moves towards stability and safety.
I wonder what the Cayman business climate will look like in 6 months or a year.
The middle class real-estate market is probably tanking as we type.
it has
Next excuse will be "leaves on the rail tracks"!
Don’t you mean the “wrong kind of snow?” 🙂
Methinks that too many people are "raining on his parade".
Ernesto doesn't count because he cannot vote.
Why am I not surprised!
This is a matter of national importance and the weather is simply no excuse Mac. The people of this country want answers NOW, not when you deem it appropriate. WE PAY YOU to work for US, and not the other way around – remember?
you don't pay him…. he takes your money
He does not work for you. He just works for the CS. But you still pay him. And pay him. And pay him. And pay him. And pay him. Remember?
OH, its raining! Stop work, stay home, and do nothing!!! RRRRIIIIGGGGHHHTTTTT and this is the gov't that has thought of verything to not implement a tax. Stop giving your Caymaniam people a bad reputation of being lazy! cause you are the worst!!!!
Mac didn't stay home and do nothing, he went to party in Jamaica on our dollar whilst Mark Scotland and an entourage are in London, also on our dollar.
Ironically, this might be the most sensible and responsible thing he has done in the last 4 years!!!
Aren't we supposed to be living in a first world, commonwealth, diplomatic, major financial centre? It seems more like an absurdistan banana republic.
What he means is his flight back from a weekend partying in Jamaica has been delayed.
Henceforth he should be referred to as Nero Bush – fiddling while the good ship Cayman goes down!!!
Great. So the rest of us managed to make it to and from work, and he can't make it to a meeting. Speaks volumes.
His personal chauffeur is on holiday, we sent him on a 1st class trip to Bali for 3 weeks.
Wow what a shocker – postponed again …..Unbelievable.
Is anyone surprised? after a weekend in Jamaica, you have to be tired from all that partying, i mean its not like we are under pressure to solve a budget crisis that is a month late or anything,
Or to calm a society that is on the breaking point along with the economy due to public idiotic statements being made about our financial future or anything like that,
No sense of urgency here in paradise, let us all go to 7 mile and sun a little shall we whiles it’s still open to the public.
A game of Chess.
or jump rope
He could just simplify everything by announcing his resignation. He can't seriously believe he can remain in office after all the damage this shambles has caused?
