Mothersill missing from starting blocks
(CNS): Injury appears to have struck another Cayman Islands athlete at the Olympic Games as Cydonie Mothersill was a no show on the track in her heat for 200 metre heat on Monday (6 August). The Commonwealth Champion was drawn in lane four but did not appear for the race. Her heat was won by the USA sprinter Camalita Jeter. Although she has been suffering from a persistent injury so far there has been limited news from London but it appears Mothersill was concerned about the injury as she prepared for the race. On Friday, Cayman’s star athlete told the CIOC reporter that she had blocked all her injury problems out of her mind and was “raring to go”
As the 34 year old, who was likely facing her last Olympics, did not start the race on Monday she will now not compete in the semi-finals on the world's biggest athletic stage.
This comes on the heels of Kemar Hyman’s bad luck on Saturday when he was also a no show at the semi-finals of the 100m when the runner felt some pain just before the start of the race.

Disappointing! Tuned in to see both these competitors run and saw empty lanes. Wonder who made the call to withdraw them? Really surprised that they wouldn't at least have a go. It's not like we have other competitors- these two are 40% of the team!
I'm sorry, but Cayman's trainer and support teams are obliged to promptly explain and issue statement before the starter gun is fired. It is not their place to withhold information and disgrace the other athletes waiting in the other lanes. How are so many of our athletes allowing mismanagement and injury before their events? Betty's Olympic Committee better get on top of this if they want to secure corporate sponsorships for Brazil.
Very good point. So many years of fundraising for this very moment and the lane is blank. What's up with that? Sponsors and supporters are disappointed.
Ah, if you all only knew the half of it….My donations to the community will be going to worthy causes in future.
i was so excited to see my cayman stars run & then was heart broken when i saw the lanes empty!
Sorry but I feel that if you have trained so hard and got so far you should at least turn up and if you pull out halfway through the race then so be it but at least it shows you tried. Sorry Cydonie and Kemar but I expected more…..

Too bad this has come back and haunted you. But please Cydonie, don’t desert our shores as some has done in past years. Continue driving home the ambitions and loyalty to our young and upcoming athletes. Motivate our younger Caymanians to carry on the dreams of this island to one day win an Olympic medal/s.
