partap (241x300).jpg(CNS): Trinidad and Tobago’s prime minister has fired her junior national security minister in the wake of his arrest at the weekend after he refused to take a breathalyser test. Just hours after Collin Partap was detained by the police, Kamla Persad-Bissessar stripped  him of his post. In a brief statement the prime minister said that she had advised the country’s President, Professor George Maxwell Richards, to revoke the appointment of Partap as a result of reports received from the national security ministry and from Partap himself.

“I have decided to advise the President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, His Excellency Prof George Maxwell Richards, to revoke the appointment of Minister Collin Partap with immediate effect. This decision wasmade subsequent to reports received from the Ministry of National Security and Mr Collin Partap,” Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar stated.

According to media reports from Trinidad, the former minister was stopped by officers in Port of Spain because they had seen him with a bottle of alcohol before he got into the driver’s seat of his car. Police say Partap refused to give a breathe test and was taken to the Belmont Police Station, where he contacted his lawyer and continued to refuse the test until more than an hour after he was detained but was then found to be within the legal limit.

In 2007 when a friend of mine was charged with DUI he was sentenced within 5 weeks.  Why is Mr Anglin's case taking so long?

The Trini's should learn the following legal maxims "Security, you no see nuttin"… and the very best of em all "Sacred Vessel"… If only they had the most basic grasp of these 2 well known follow ons from the chewbacca defense then no-one would ever get into any trouble in that country… just like no-one does in Cayman! Clearly, as the elected leader of her party and her country, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has a standard of conduct that she expects from those who she recommends for appointment as her ministers. And when they ofend, there are consequences.

Sadly, here in Cayman, the 'party' we have leading us and their 'leader' have no such standards. So, if a minister is ARRESTED and CHARGED with DUI, there is no need for him to be concerned about consquences.

Of course, our "leader" is hardly in a position to take off his belt because he is only still the "leader" because of the support of the minister.

Sounds like a "gang" to me; not a 'party'.

How come Cayman doesn't have a junior national security advisor? Or do we?

    • Anonymous says:

We prolly have a whole Board or Committee hand-picked by you-know-who to do only God knows what at great expense to us, like all the rest of his Boards and Committees.
