MLAs agree to oust Mac
(CNS): Five UDP members of parliament have signed a letter along with the opposition calling for a no confidence in the government debate, which will see Premier Mckeeva Bush ousted from office before the end of Tuesday. With no agreement among the United Democratic Party on how to handle the crisis of their leader’s arrest, Juliana O’Connor Connolly, Rolston Anglin, Mark Scotland, Cline Glidden and Dwayne Seymour have put their names on a letter along with all of the opposition members, forcing a sitting of the House, after the speaker failed to respond to the opposition leader’s request Monday.
Ezzard Miller, the independent member for North Side, confirmed to CNS Tuesday morning that the letter from the opposition benches had been submitted to the speaker with eleven signatures — four more than the seven required to trigger the emergency meeting, which is expected to be held sometime this afternoon (Tuesday 18 December).
Although Mike Adam, Capt Eugene Ebanks and Ellio Solomon have not signed the letter calling for the meeting and a lack of confidence debate, it is understood that, should the motion succeed and bring down the current UDP administration led by the embattled McKeeva Bush, the three men might be encouraged to help reconstitute a UDP government until the General Elections in May.
If the premier remains with the UDP, it might still hold their majority of three. However, should Bush cross the floor taking any of the other three memebrs with him, the UDP splinter group would not be able to hold government.
As the opposition is unlikely to prop up a divided UDP, this will see Cayman go to the polls as early as March. However, if the UDP can regain some unity, Deputy Premier Juliana O'Connor Connolly would take up the job of premier for the next five months, while Anglin would become deputy. Glidden is still expected to take over Bush’s portfolio.
While the premier remained defiant about remaining in office one week after his arrest on serious criminal charges, including theft and offences under the anti-corruption law, the UDP caucus spent the last seven days flip-flopping over their loyalty to the UDP’s leader, the country’s first premier and the Cayman Islands longest serving member of the Legislative Assembly.
Check back to CNS for more on this story later today.
CNS Online Poll: How should the political crisis following the premier's arrest be resolved?

Rats…
Brac is mourning , with so much power in wrong hands.
What colours will ju ju be wearing now? Some folks seem to think that certain colours such as green makes you look well dressed even if you are wearing flip flops with your suits.
I think what should have happened was Mr. Bush, step down until things were sorted to avoid a mess like this. Not an admission of guilt but to do what was best until things are resolved. This looks horrible, my God!
I say, shouldn't Bobo Anglin be resigning too? I meeeean what kinda business weeeze running heeeeea?
Looks like one of the rats just gave me a thumb down. Ouchhh!!! Mirror, mirror on the wall, whose the biggest rat of all? Hmmh, let me think – there's that big, and I mean big, lady with a private chauffeur, another who has some sacred vessel or something to that effect, and his little buddy Gilligan… Or maybe I ought to call them Laurel and Hardy. Hmmh. Let me tell you though, that Hardy guy, the one with the sacred vessel sure knows no honour; if I recall, wasn't Boss Hog the one who stood by him in his time of need? Be careful who your friends are, that's what I say. Rats, I tell ya – every one of them. Pheeeww, I could go on, but these rats sure stink to the high heavens… Cayman gonna be havin some pork for Christmas – Big Boss Hog gonna get sliced and diced by his frienz. Like Macho Man Randy Savage used to say, OOOOOOHHH YEEEEA!!!
There is no honour in supporting the continuance of McKeeva Bush in office at the expense of the interests of your country. Whatever Mr. Seymour has done himself, on this occasion he acted honourably.
Well look, normally I'd agree with you… If putting country above all else is the case I'd say you have a great point – unfortunately, that's not the case… The fact of the matter is that both Laurel and Hardy probably still think that they have a chance at getting re-elected; so they're most likely doing this in order to save any chance at re-election. Neither Laurel nor Hardy showed any morals in the past 4 years – what makes you think that all of a sudden they're dripping with ethics??? In summary, it has nothing to do with country but all to do with their personal situation – nothing has changed…
No doubt that was also considered but nonetheless it required a great of courage to take that stand and these two were the most resolute and consistent of all of them. No one will take them seriously as independents and they are in a no-man's land between UDP membership which probably still supports Mac, and the PPM.
To Mark and John John, signing won’t help you two! You men are are danger to Bodden Town supporting the Dump deal! You might as well sign your resignation letters while you are signing the Premier out!
Well done!! leading the country from the brink of disaster. Into total chaos.
All I know is that …
Unna' watch and see wha ga go down this Friday 21/12/12.
We shall all feel the consequences of messing with McKeeva "The Chosen One" Bush!
I just gave Whodatis a smiley face. It must be Christmas.
Hey Pit,
Yep, it must be Christmas indeed!
All arms down until the New Year.
Happy Holidays to you and yours.
😉
2 trolls for that comment, LOL, perhaps you should have wished "Happy Holidays"?
Merry Christmas Whotdatis!
Have a good Christmas too. All the best in 2013, when I promise to come back with a neo-colonialist bang.
PS: I never do typo-faces. But, it is Advent after all, so what the heck ;-}
I just gave Whodatis the Troll sign – fitting…
Scrooge!
🙂
Well, there does have to be a Scrooge, doesn't there? Thanks for the laughs and the good sense of humour. Merry Christmas. 🙂
what are we bloggers gonna do without Mac?
A new name, the paving woman.
Don't worry, we have a brand new and totally exciting an extremely promising star. Ladies and gentlemen, we present to you, the one and only, steam rolling, private driveway paving, Sister JuJu. Bring on the blue Christmas lights folks!

Something is wrong….he is not blaming the British for this, or the colonial past, or slavery….or anything else.
I've decided to take a day off from truth-telling today.
🙂
aha, so the earthquake wasn't connected to Bushes arrest!
Party tonight at PPM Headquarters…
Free fish and Fritters , turtle stew and a good old Cayman fish run down!

Too bad they don't have Arden anymore. I could go for some good East End food! Some whelks and conch sounds so good right now!

Is that a dance?

Goodbye – The Eternal Honerable Dr. Ke Ke Bush MBE …
Oh wait scratch the dr. Part!
When he said that he had consulted with his doctor, I thought that he was talking to himself. My bad.
Oops, you forgot to scratch the Eternally Honerable part.
My bad…I was scratchin somethin else and lost focus…
OBE
OBGYN?
Rolston is after a BYOB.
RIP
shouldn't be heternally onerable?
GT voters come May 2013 please remember that Mike Adam and Ellio Solomon put Mckeeva Bush before the interests of our country and VOTE THEM OUT! We expect no better from Capt. Eugene; he is from WB.
So Is Rolston and CG – and they did the right thing.
They did the "right thing" because it was in their self-interests! They fall out with Mac long before this!!
Yes, they exceeded expectations.
Woooo Hooooo!!!!
actually it's too late, sorry…
These five UDP have possibly salvaged to some extent, their LA seats.
Better late than never…thanks to these five who signed, for standing up to tyrant Mac.
Calling all rats to abandon ship! Last call to all rats abandoning ship! Last call!
You better go back to your drawing board. The man Mckeeve is looved in West By, and they are the ones who will have to vote for him. Another thing what is wrong with West Bay? Being from West Bay is no crime. I am not from West Bay but I just dont see Mack no worst than who will replace him.
Obviously the Kool Aid is not confined to WB.
These 5 signed away their jobs!
Question; CNS, can you confirm if this afternoons LA meeting will be televised?
"Technical Problems" at Radio Cayman and MacTV.
When I look up Weststar TV Program Guide Channel 20 CIGTV it has a message
"No information"
bit like the government for the past few years.
Mike Adam, Capt Eugene Ebanks and Ellio Solomon refused to sign.
More evidence of dead weight in the house.
Cayman, we should ensure that these three NEVER EVER get re-elected. They do nothing.
Has anyone checked that Eugene is still alive? His last reported activity was incoherent mumbling as reported on Hansard. And that was a few years ago.
Are his paychecks being cashed?
That doesn't mean he is alive. This is WB we're talking about. Dead people vote.
The speaker of the house is a disgrace.
The whole govermnent is a shambles.
The thing that hurts Mac the most is not being in Vegas right now for Miss World.
I am shocked to see that Michael "Mike"Adam is not among those that are calling for the premier's resignation. He is of impeccable background and should stand his ground and be counted amongst those who are calling for McKeeva's resignation.
Mike didn't actually vote yet, he just didn't sign the paper calling for the emergency meeting (which granted he should have). As I understand it though, he will indeed be voting McKeeva out.
That means he is cowardly. He needs to go in May 2013 as well.
Does it really matter? It's hard to pretend that you respect someone who needs three attempts to do the right thing.
Just imagine if two of them had done the right thing when the first "no confidence" vote in McKeeva was brought to the House. Any of them claiming that there was insufficient evidence should take another read of the letter to Stan Thomas.
Well obviously your understanding was wrong.
I wonder if he was threatened?
His 'impeccable' background? Being a people pleaser withou any backbone can get you far but people eventually see through it……
We need to STOP paying salaries to people like Capt Eugene, Micke Adam and Anthony Eden. I hope PPM will also refuse his application to run, how much more money does he need? his family are set for life and he never had to do anything except say 'yah' a prayer now and then.
SO yes, Mike Adam is far cry from his intelligent and outspoken brother (?) or relative that calls the talk shows, so backgroudn or not we need legislators not 'oh she/he nice,'….. that's the job description!!!
He is a beard and a smile without a backbone.
“Impeccable background”?
Why don’t you do some research on “The West Bay Polo Club” and “Southern Health Network”, both of Turks & Caicos fame & linked to names such as Delroy Howell, Michael Misick & one McKeeva Bush …. oh, and also one Michael Adams.
The only thing "impeccable" about mike Adam is his hair and beard, the rest of him smells just like Mac.
Mike dont have to worry about his seat for the next election. Regardless of which Governments he will be there. Just remember he hs one of the best campaigners in George Town who never loose an Election. Mikes Mom also paved the way for him from the time she was alive. He is a gentleman.
Just leave Hon Mike out of this please!!!!! At least he is loyal until Mckeeva is proven guilty or at least charged. He sure like hell shows that he is not power hungry, because if we had to choose he would have been the new Premier.
Mike is a FLAKE. His actions today shows us George Towners at least one thing. That he falls into the same category as his other George Town counterpart. An honest to God bottom feeder who is spineless, lacks integrity and cannot identify a national crisis even though it is staring him in the face. Whilst, i agree his familial background seems to have helped him to gain his position, George Town may have put in the wrong Adam brother. Country first Mike.
To retain any semblence of respect you have in the country, please do not put your hat in the ring next election. Please bow out quietly.
Also to Mikeand Elio, the UDP may have fooled all of us last election and made George Town look like West Bay with the tail coats and all, but we George Towners nah so fool fool yah see. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I tell yah wah. I ain't no idiot. You never got my vote the last time and you certainly will not get it this time.
And to all of you all who think the reform UDP Rake called the Coalition for Cayman is anything to put in as an alternative, please ask yourself who were these people supporting right before the ka ka hit the fan? Yes! the UDP.
This is truly a sad day and a good day for Cayman all in one. The stuggle is not yet over. As we can see Big Mac likes a production. We just experienced Cannes, wait for the Oscars in 2013.
I will bet that the only sitting MLA enjoying a bellyful of laughs out of all this is Kurt Tibbetts. I can remember very clearly when Mackeeva Bush engineered his coup de etat to oust Kurt as Leader of Government business. I can also remember clearly how Kurt took it all gracefully and did not put up much resistance.
What goes around certainly comes around and if Kurt is enjoying this I would certainly agree with him 100 percent.
Don't worry Kurt put on a pot of turtle meat from early this morning…Unna coming? Bring lil breadkind nah!
Replace Mac with JuJu? A classic case of jumping out of the frying pan into the fire.
The cure may be worse than the disease.
The 2013 elections will not fix the problem as there are still too many of the corrupt and incompetant old guard running.
Perhaps 2017 will offer some hope if and when some young, competant, educated, and ethical Caymanians step up to the plate. I know they exist.
At this moment we cannot CHOOSE who will replace Mac if he is ousted! Julianna is Deputy Premier which therefore stands that she will assume the post of Premier until elections. That's how it works….
We all talk about how horrible government is both UDP and PPM and, oh Lordy even worse the independent candidate for North Side. Sigh. We will not do ANYTHING about this political arena unless the younger generation steps up, voters vote for them, and we move on.
Oh. Hold on. Foolio got in, didnt he? Another *sigh*.
These political dinosaurs need to go extinct as well. Who the heck cares that Big Mac is the longest serving member of the LA, just goes to show you, Big Mac, senility is not a quality that will get you voted back in. You took government salary for what 117 years? and then your pension on top of it. Sit back, and fade away. Let our nation prosper, dammit.
Bout Time ! They stood up for Cayman and not just there party.
This one i got to see!
Really? I think they stood up for themselves and only themselves – in other words, they're hoping to get reelected. Had they stood up for Cayman they ought to have done so a long, long time ago. I have even less respect for them now because given the rats that they are, they jumped ship as soon as it started sinking…
Sorry MLAs, just because you finally listen to the facts and sensible people, you still cannot keep your jobs for showing up at the 11th hour. Where were you during the past term? THe past decade?
Juliana your wasteful spending and ego go against your own faith. Anglin and Glidden shame on you for taking a paycheque. Do the right thing and all resign (without pension.)
This long awaited small step across the political divide has the potential to re-establish Caymans credibility; rebuild and secure its economic future and protect all of its assets against those who would abuse us for their own self interests.
Should not all of this be aired on the Government television channel in order that there is transparency for all to see, rather than that announcements supplied by the media. That way Mr Bush will have little to moan about. After all this complete waste of time and money channel was Mr Bush's stunning brainwave in the first place.
On air and uncensored one would hope.
Really not surprised at Ellio and the good Captain but so very disappointed in you Mike Adams. Hope you're enjoying being a complete loser.
Mike has always been a smart man. What if Mack is not charged nor convicted, what do you think will happen? With good and the best lawyers in Cayman he probally wont be. I would not like to see that law suit figure, and at least Mike hands will be free. Its no good of warning some people though they seem to listen bull sh.t advise all the time.
The worst part of all this is that we have to continue paying Mike Adams, Captain
Eugene and Ellio for at least another three months.
There is incompetent , then pathetically incompetent , and now Caymankind incompetent. its way down there with Caymankind honorable. Caymanians are really showing their lack of education here. Kick out the Bushit construction company, get back Tom Jones and get those schools finished fast.!
The world is gonna end on Friday, he's just trying to see it thru till the end
Please can they keep Mckeeva and Ellio off the damn tv and out of the news now?
We have heard enough crap from those two to last a life time…
Nothing like a man putting his naked political ambitions before the best interests of the country-way to go Elio. And that's what C4C just fails to realise or is simply completely disingenuous about – the political arena is Hollywood for ugly people.
There goes Humpty Dumpty…
Great job UDP! Don't stop now that your on a roll. Keep going until all those who have proven themselves not fit to lead are taken out. Talk about a target rich environment!
Bye Bye Ellio, We warned you buddy.
shame on mike adam….we expected more from you…but we have been saying that for the last 3 and a half years….
as for whogene and foolio…… can't wait their humiliation at election time…
How could a Speaker, acting properly and without bias, not have responded and responded quickly and firmly at a time like this?
This is only the latest in a long line of occasions when Mary Lawrence has shown herself completely unworthy for the office which she holds.
CG will take that roll as S of TH. Or Linford (via the PPM)
Three Stogies, Mike, Capt, Foolio.
