Reality TV model to host local fashion show

| 12/03/2013

url_1.jpg(CNS): Internationally known actress, host and model, Eva Marcille, the winner of cycle three of the TV reality show, America’s Next Top Model, will be hosting this year’s Cayman Islands Fashion Week, where a collection of cutting edge international designers will be displaying their work during the four day event. Organisers are promising 12 designers this year from London, New York, Africa, Dubai, the Caribbean and the Cayman Islands. After the success of our two previous events under the umbrella of Cayman Fashion Solstice and in an effort to engage the international market, the fashion event has been rebranded Cayman Islands Fashion Week.

Eva Marcille presently hosts Oxygen’s Hair Battle Spectacular and is known as Tyra Hamilton on the soap opera, The Young & The Restless. She has appeared on the cover of Brides Noir, Women's Health and Fitness (May 2005), King magazine (June 2005), IONA(November 2005), and Essence magazine.

“Her prominent presence and eye for fashion makes her the perfect representative of international and local Caribbean designers that are on the cusp of breaking onto the global fashion stage,” officials from the event said.

The three day event will feature the Culture & Style Welcome Party – April 25th, The “MyStyle” Soiree – April 26th and the 2013 Runway Fashion Show which is scheduled to take place on Saturday April 27th at the Island Air Hangar.  The four event runs from 25 – 28 April.

I checked the website to see which "cutting edge international designers will be displaying their work". That section is empty. Since the event is promoted as as "Destination Event", and is only a month away, I doubt any store buyers or fashionistas outside of Cayman are planning to attend.

According the the website the charities who benefit are The Cayman AIDS Foundation, the Cayman Heart Foundation, and The Cayman Fashion & Entertainment Foundation. This latter charity is "for funding these individual's dreams in the fashion and entertainment industry". Is this actually a registered charity?

If this person has an inappropriate attitude to guns they should not be given a work permit.

Obviously there is another meaning to the words "Internationally known actress".  Never heard of her.

Normally I'd be offended by that "Female with Gun" fetish, but it looks like she's concentrating on pulling out a wedgie. Are we to assume that Cayman Fashion Week will be showcasing poronography that's so bad it's funny?

Do we really need this type of representation in Cayman?  Surely with the gun violence that has been so prevelant in our islands another photo could have been used.  in my opinion this photo in poor taste.  I urge the media to be more selective in future.

    • Hear Hear Shame on you CNS says:

Come on CNS, you have already seen that headlines here end up on Huffington Post and other international news.  We do not need more skewed twisted faces of politicians (even if we are not fans of politicians) and no inflamatory photos of models with guns when you were reporting on a fashion piece.  Poor taste and sensational journalism at best.  We respect your fair reporting and expect more of you.  Thanks.

    Another role "model."

Good to see that your picture associates guns with Caribbean fashion, just what young people need to see. Well done CNS, no stereo typing here then.

And on this day not a single sh*t was given.

Defintely not the picture I would have chosen for positive PR in Cayman.

"Her prominent presence and gun-toting stance makes her the perfect representative of international and Caribbeangangstas that are on the cusp of breaking onto the local crime scene" officials from the Cayman Islands said.

Tell her not to bring the gun with her 🙂

Is that really the only photo you could have used of Eva Marcille? Posing with a gun? Given what is happening with guns in our community? Really?

The beautiful, lovely and talented Miss Eva!  You go girl keep doing your thang!   I will definetly be at that fashion show.

It has been proven through research that reality TV "stars" are more popular among those who cannot spell the word "definitely" than among those that can spell the word.
