New governor arrives for ‘sneak preview’ of Cayman
(CNS): Helen Kilpatrick, the British senior civil servant who successfully interviewed to be the next Cayman Islands governor, will be arriving in the Cayman Islands Thursday for a sneak preview of what will be her home for the next three years or more when she takes up the job in September. Officials described Kilpatrick’s three-day visit as a “a low-key and informal familiarisation”. She will meet with the current governor, Duncan Taylor, and review her accommodation and new environment and is expected to meet very briefly with the local press. Kilpatrick is not only the first woman to be appointed as a governor in Cayman but also the first who has not come from the diplomatic service.
Kilpatrick is an accountant with a long career history in local government in the UK and is a public finance expert.
The local press is being given the option to submit just one question per media house in advance to GIS and CNS is inviting readers to submit their proposals using the comment section below for questions today. We will pick the best or most popular one to submit.

The question I have is: Regarding the controversy surrounding the For Cayman Alliance in relation to the Crown Land (Public Beach and West Bay Road) for which there was overwhelming public opposition, will she examine whether that land can be returned to the public as has been happening in the Turks and Caicos under similar circumstances?
Doesn't look as soft as the FCO boys. Better keep all your receipts.
What are the main objectives of your time as Governor here?
We dont even know of this Lady yet, so please let us give her a fair shake before any bad comments or questions.
A warm welcome to Mrs.Kilpatrick and her family. Cayman is a fabulous place to live and work and I wish her all the best.
Is it time that ourPremier live in our house on the beach?
It is not your house. It is the UK's house and don't you ever forget it.
Never the UK house, they may occupy it, but we built and when we ready and another ting.
Ummm. It 's OUR house. We pay for it. If the UK wants to claim it let them pay all the bills associated with it and the Governor's salary.
Perhaps he much prefer living in his gorgeous house in Prospect.
Who's paying for this visit?
For God's sake who really cares? Get over yourself.
right after you folks stop calling everyone and his brother honorable.
Does that bother you that much? If so, what you gonna do about it. And another ting it really none a ya business.
It ain't "Honourable" it's "Dishonourable", especially in reference to Herr (ex)Diktater and his Dishonourable cronies. And what I gonna do about it is call them that here and everywhere else. And it's my business cause I make it my business, and why I do that ain't none a you business Ting-person so whatcha gonna do bout dat? Huh?
Who wouldn't? Getting paid to live on SMB and entertain people at cocktail parties.
Given her background in accounting and having regard to the difficult financial position of the Cayman Islands Government, does she intend to take a hands on approach to this problem or is this something that she is content to leave to the local government ?
All the ones I want answered will not be, so there's no point suggesting any. They all boil down to the same burning question, though: what is she doing here?
will she continue the outdated mode of address of "Your Excellency", "Her Excelllency" etc.?
Lets give her our island's best taste of oxtail, rice and peas, patie, mango , iguana and turtle soup
Why wouldn't she? And it isn't outdated – it is a title. One she has earned. She should be referred to in the proper manner.
…because she is British. On the other hand, we can call Caymanian leaders any names we like because they are mere colonials, right? What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
Why did she want the job?
This is the question that I want answered?
More money? it's usual, and nothing to be ashamed of.
Does she need a highly paid "Driver / Aid" by any chance?
Just askin'…
My question is this. Based on the knowledge that she already has about Cayman, what does Ms. Kilpatrick think is her primary objective in the early stages of her tenure.
