Botched robbery at Savannah

| 01/10/2013

(CNS) Updated with correction: A 17-year-old member of staff at the Video Centre in Hirst Road, Savannah (and not Countryside, as the RCIPS previously reported) was confronted by a masked man armed with what appeared to be a handgun late last night. In a report Tuesday morning, the police said that shortly after 10pm on Monday, 30 September, the teenager was locking up the store when the robber suddenly appeared. The suspect demanded cash and then grabbed a bag from the victim and ran off. The bag, which did not contain any cash, was recovered a short distance away. No shots were fired and no-one was injured in the incident. The suspect is approximately 5’8”, slim build and was wearing blue pants, a dark jacket and a dark mask.

It is believed that the suspect approached the store from the direction of Savannah Meadows.

Anyone who was in the area at the time, or who saw the suspect either before or running off after the robbery, is asked to call thee Drugs and Serious Crime Task Force on 949-4222, the RCIPS tip-line 949-7777, or Crime Stoppers 800-8477(TIPS).

CNS Note: The RCIPS initially reported that this incident took place at Countryside Shopping Village but have since corrected the address of the video store premises, which is Hirst Road, Savannah.

The store is adjacent to the Countryside but is not part of that development, the RCIPS noted.

The RCIPS apologised for any confusion this has caused.

We are so tired of seeing these wasted lives walking up and down the street in our neighbourhood. Their pants are way down then there is these dark sunglasses, not to mention the earrings in their ears. Just walking and looking. Dont ask me who they are as some of them you never ever seen before. Its so sad that we dont even know most of these guys.

If "everyone knows who these culprits are" you mean to tell me that not one person can "drop a dime" and stop the violence? If you do not feel safe by making a phone call, how about mailing an annonymous letter/s to someone in power?  I mean, seriously, how many of you go to sleep knowing that the next bullet these idiots shoot may kill an innocent child, tourist, or family member caught in the crossfire?

Amen to house searches. I fully agree with you on this, however, we know that these asses are clever, they dont take their weapons home to mama n daddy house, they hide them until they are ready to create havoc on the good people of this lil island. Enough is enough, the human rights issue is a farce by left wing liberals who cant get out of their own way  but who will cry out if they are attacked then scream.

Its high time that the commisioner allow US, the people that are harrased and put in harms way , to allow us to defend ourselves.  Every business owner on this island needs to be allowed to defend them selves. These idiots are lazy, wanna, wanna have what my neighbour have  BUT I am not willing to work for it. It must stop now or for sure they will be hurt. You all are afraid of what these numb nuts will retaliate with, what about us,  Its not just jobs, its lazy ungreatful punks.

Northward should be full of them with no opportuniy of getting out. Build a moat around that hotel and keep the asses home bound

Um this wasn't a 'botched' robbery. He clearly made away with a bag of what he assumed was cash after laywaiting this employee till they left their place of work… The employee was just fortunate to not have had any cash in the bag.

Countryside is kind of an open area, which bush was this idiot hiding in that he was not spotted and reported by someone on the adjacent and joining roads to the videostore plaza?

Here we go again, is it greed or need? Someone is going to get hurt badly very soon if this continues and I hope that it is not a tourist.  Hon Tara Rivers please read this article and see if it makes sense to you because it does to me

Thank you and I pray that something is done before it is too late.

I think this is enough now…UK needs to lend us some of its special armed operations units, I suspect everyone knows who these culprits are, and just do house searches until we find these weapons. The sea unit needs to do better stopping boats coming in illegally…our borders are too porous.

Only Haitian boats capsize, never heard that  drug boats capsize.  Their journeys are always successful.
