Bernie Bush sworn as opposition LA deputy leader

| 10/10/2013

(CNS): As provided for in the Cayman Islands 2009 Constitution, Bernie Bush, the third elected member for West Bay, has been appointed the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly. While he is the second in command spot in the LA among the three United Democratic Party members, Bush is not the UDP deputy, as local businessman Renard Moxam, who failed to win a seat in  the George Town election battle, has been given that role. Bernie Bush was sworn in by Governor Helen Kilpatrick at her office in the Government Administration Building on Wednesday, 9 October.

As Bernie Bush took the oath of allegiance, veteran politician and opposition leader, McKeeva Bush, was present to see his legislative and party colleague sworn in as his back-up in the parliament.

Although the United Democratic Party is the official opposition, it has only three members in the House and is flanked by the two independent members from East End and North Side. The opposition sits across from a full government bench after the three Coalition for Cayman members opted to join the PPM administration after the Progressives won the largest number of seats. In addition, following the election results, Juliana O’Connor-Connolly, who left the UDP to join the PNA, crossed the floor to join the PPM and took up the speaker’s post, giving the party a significant majority.

One thing for sure….bad minded people and haters are family.

Why can't some of you people that make these comments on CNS just say something nice for a change or keep your thoughts to yourself. Some of them are pure rubbish and not even revelant to the topic.

God forbid but we must be the laughing stock to the rest of the world reading some of the comments.

CNS..I suggest you get a special cartoon corner because it is much needed.

Whhhaaaaaaa, ca'nt even run a back ery, wa we a com toooooo

    • Anonymous says:

Walling is UDP as well? Add him to Mike, Renard, and Jonathan, and then include the 3 elected members and the UDP has 7 Caymanian members.

They are much bigger than I thought.

    • Anonymous says:

No, I heard that Chris Saunders is Deputy Leader, and that Mac has threatened to resign as leader if they don’t put Renard as Deputy Leader.

      • Anonymous says:

No no no. John McLean jr is Deputy of the UDP. Hand picked and endorsed.

Is he an MLA? Haven't heard anything fromhim yet. Don't think I heard much about him during election either.

He is modelling his career on "Captain" Eugene.

    • SSM345 says:

Capt Whogene is ranked above Bernie in the UDP, look at what he has to say on a daily, monthly, or yearly basis? Bernie will have a hard time prying the mic from the Capt's hand in order to get the requisite air time to be heard

Perhaps Berniecould lend Government his "party boat" to conduct business, hold meetings and conferences in order to attract any outside investment in Cayman as opposed to galavanting around the world betting on some sort of success and playing poker with Mac?

And you won't unless Big Mac tells him to.

Renard is not the Deputy Leader – Jonathan Piercy is.

    • Anonymous says:

Is Jonathan even still on island??

      • Anonymous says:

Jonathan is still on the island and is continuing to do what he can to help people find employment. As far as I know he is also not the Deputy leader. Titles are irrelevant, Jonathan is a good man and should have been given an opportunity. He would not have been led like the other stoges that are currently there.

I hope he runs again in 2017. People like him are the future of politics in Cayman, he means what he says and says what he means and he is not corrupt.

UDP Supporters dont even know who the Deputy Party leader is.., some say Renaaard, some say "Mile Adam" and some say Jonathan Piercy. LOL!!

They been following one person for so long they dont even know who #2 is – LMAO!

    • And Another Ting says:

Nah ya na know was you a talk about.  UDP died.

Is this what the UDP has succumb to, my my good old Bernie deputy? Wow wow. McKeeva your party has gone to the dogs and you know what it hurts like hell.

  9. anonymus says:

Hey Bernie haven't you learn your lesson yet ?

So my question is this ! The UDP got a proper whipping at the polls last May and this was very clearly a serious indictment against the party leader, McKeeva Bush. Why then has he not done what convention requires and what all political leaders whose parties lose so embarrassingly do………RESIGN……and allow the party to rebuild. The UDP will never be anything as long as Mckeeva is allowed to remain. But I guess there is no party executive and therefore no one to oust him ! Only the Lamb in the Chair and the Dr trying to keep the Lamb from collapsing from the intoxication of altitude !

    • Anonymous says:

McKeeva Bush is the UDP. There is no UDP without him because it is not a proper party.

    • SSM345 says:

"The UDP will never be anything"

14:32, does anyone care whether the UDP  are anything or survives other than the minority of minions in the Republic?

Watching them ruin Cayman has been extremely painful, so watching them self-implode will bring a tiny smidgen of enjoyment into our lives while we all get on with it.

As the older Caymanian folk would say……"blessed assurance"………..and when they said that they meant is this really happening ???????

I suggest West Bay have their own Parliament down there. Cap't Eugene should be Premier, Mac leader of the opposition and Bernie independent. That way the remaining 15 MLA's in George Town could deal with the afairs of the country without wasting time accommodating Macs' rhetoric.

  12. Anonymous says:

Well done Bernie. Congrats. I am proud of you and all you have done and continue to do for our district. God bless you

  13. Anonymous says:

Another waste of time man man like his cousin keke! Gt

  14. Anonymous says:

Renard is not Deputy Leader – Mile Adam is.

    So stop publishing incorrect information.

    • Anonymous says:

Wow. So far I have read that Renard Moxam, Jonathan Piercy and Mike Adam are each the Deputy Leader of the UDP but none of them is the Deputy Leader of the Opposition. No one really seems to know who really is the Deputy Leader. What a farce of a party.

      • Anonymous says:

The UDP didn’t have a Party Conference so how could it elect Renard?

        Mac at his tricks again?

  15. Anonymous says:

Sometimes you have to make tough choices in life. Bernie or Eugene. Eugene or Bernie. LOL

Can Whogene be made a Councilor to the Opposition then all three of the West Bay outcasts would have titles?
