CO2 emissions driving oceans ‘acid trip’

| 15/11/2013

(BBC):The world's oceans are becoming acidic at an 'unprecedented rate' and may be souring more rapidly than at any time in the past 300 million years. In their strongest statement yet on this issue, scientists say acidification could increase by 170% by 2100. They say that some 30% of ocean species are unlikely to survive in these conditions. The researchers conclude that human emissions of CO2 are clearly to blame. The study will be presented at global climate talks in Poland next week. In 2012, over 500 of the world's leading experts on ocean acidification gathered in California. Led by the International Biosphere-Geosphere Programme, a review of the state of the science has now been published.

This Summary for Policymakers states with "very high confidence" that increasing acidification is caused by human activities which are adding 24 million tonnes of CO2 to oceans every day. The addition of so much carbon has altered the chemistry of the waters. Since the start of the industrial revolution, the waters have become 26% more acidic.

"This is the state of the art," said Prof Jean-Pierre Gattuso, from CNRS, the French national research agency. "My colleagues have not found in the geological record, rates of change that are faster than the ones we see today."

What worries the scientists is the potential impact on many ocean species including corals.

The solution is simple, we all need to stop breathing.

Does anyone realize that the whole global warming debate almost died because of the leaked emails from the "Climate Scientists"? They were fixing the numbers.

    http://www.globalresearch.ca/climategate-2-0-anatomy-of-a-media-distraction

Have a look http://wattsupwiththat.com have fun.

Also realize that we are all getting played by large corporations.

Do we need to cleanup and help the environment yes. Do we need to impose taxes and make up tales to scare people? I don't think so.  Also look at who ends up owning the new corporations after everything is implemented. The same people creating the "Problems".  Also ask why they are messing with Geo Engineering and trying to cool the planet without telling anyone publicly. Why spray the entire atmosphere with nano particle aluminium and many other particles some of which are radioactive and cancer causing? In the name of Climate Change ey? Please note that CO2 is not  to blame for any of your worries,  so for now you can fart and breathe safely and not to mention drinking your glass of club soda should also be safe for now. And your carbon footprint……. yeah do you realize that the earth and its atmosphere is not contained in a sealed glass sphere? So green house gasses are not trapped otherwise we would have all died quite a while back.

No one cares? Maybe the people blinded by the coorporations care a lot about fiction, the people standing on the other side of the fence with the ladder and the binoculars care about the people being tricked but they are out numbered by the blind and at times overpowered by the  weapon that they don't have control of "The Media".

it is so frustrating to read this sort of drivel over and over again.Well done you have read a couple of online blogs – wow you must be an expert on global warming!

Given that it would appear you have little understanding of the science behind the theory we will stick to what appears to be your primary gripe – the solution. It seems that you don't believe in global climate change because you don't like the solutions put forward to try to solve the problems. This is like not believing in cancer because you don't like chemotherepy. Professionals tell you that you have cancer, you don't doubt that cancer exists but you can choose to not like the solution to your cancer. Much like climate change, professionals tell you that climate change does exist BUT you don't want to believe it becuase you don't want to be taxed???? it makes no sense. Your arguement should be with the governments trying to tax you NOT with the scientists and all there hard work!

Also saying this is all about money could well be right BUT you have to follow the money to find the real answer. I'll give you a clue, below is a list of the worlds 10 largest companies, 7 of them have something in common and 2 of the rest are further related to the other 7. Can you spot a theme:

      Royal Dutch shell

      Walmart

      EXXON Mobil

      Sinopec

      China National Petroleum

      BP

      State Grid

      Toyata Motor

      Volkswagen

      Total

Now ask yourself who really controls the world and has the most influence on policy makers – very highly funded lobbyists tyring to protect the worlds largest companies or scientists looking for their next grant…..

Try to see the bigger picture when reading these blogs. Shout at the oil companies and governments not at the scientists. Remember it's not the doctor's fault if you get diagnosed with cancer.

How about everyone buy a box of baking soda and we all open the boxes and dump them in the sea? Well, with that problem solved…now what else can we fix!

    • Anonymous says:

      Baking soda is Sodium bicarbonate.

When is is added to acid is release CO2 gas, so that is not a solution, even if it was feasible

What worries me is that nobody cares.

Governments trying to justify a new tax…

You would be surprised at how acidic our local waters are, enough to wear through a stainless chain in less than 12 months, in a current running straight down 7MB
