American arrested and released over spent shell
(CNS): A United States national was arrested at Owen Roberts International Airport on Monday afternoon before he could board his flight after a spent firearm shell was found in his baggage. The police said that the American man was arrested and taken to George Town Police Station following the discovery of the used bullet casing. However, he was released soon after without charge, an RCIPS spokesperson said and confirmed that the man is a registered firearms holder in the US. Police did not reveal whether or not the arrested man was a visitor to Cayman or a resident.

I use a backpack to carry my video and camera equipment, PC, etc. to GC. Here in the states, I use that same backpack to carry sidearms and ammo to the range. I can see this happening. A spent casing is nothing but a piece of brass and should be no reason to be detained.
Buy two backpacks tightwad.
It was spent brass, less dangerous than the plastic pen that most of us carry. Unless there was loaded ammo along with it, it's a non-issue for me. When it was found, it should have caused a more thorough search. If that search yielded nothing more than the single brass, the person should have been sent on their way.

A casing is simply trash. Some people choose to reuse them but to others it is trash. Cannot be used as is and is no danger to anyone as is. The inspector could have just used some discretion and just thrown it in the trash.
Then why was it in his bag.?
Idiot. It is the remains of a bullet that has been fired. Suppose the bullet had been fired in the Cayman Islands as well it might have been? Suppose it was evidence connected with a crime?
I'm registed in the US to get medical marijuana. Would that be ok If I forgot I had some in my bag?
Only in Cayman could someone get arrested for having a brass container in their possession.
Whilst I admire the vigilance of the inspectors, I just wish they had some intelligence to go along with it.
Steering on the side of caution, what about the young lady that was arrested in a U.S airport for having a bullet on a chain around her neck, ein todays world there is a lot of loony's out there ,
Cayman judges are so lenient with visitors. If it was a Caymanian visiting Miami with casings we would be in jail.
Actually no. You don't even need a licence to purchase a rifle, shotgun or handgun in Florida – just a 3 day cooling off period and a concealed carry licence to carry one concealed. As far as I am aware there are no restrictions on carrying ammunition, especially spent.

No matter if he's registered in the USA, is he registered here?? Was that why they let him go?
