Cops clamp down on booze and drug fuelled crime
(CNS): Underage drinkers, drinking and driving, illegal gambling and numerous other petty crime and anti-social behaviour were at the centre of a number of targeted operations by the RCIPS this month. Concerned about the recent increase of anti-social criminal behaviour, the police began a proactive operation on 6 June to prevent and detect criminal activity, traffic offences, illegal gambling and breaches by liquor licensed premises. During a two week period people were arrested for drugs and weapons offences as well as theft and DUI, while dozens of drivers were ticketed for traffic infractions.
Between 6 and 19 June officers arrested one person in possession of a large quantity of ganja with intent to supply, four others on suspicion of possession of ganja, one for possession of drug utensils and possession of a prohibited weapon. Two people were arrested separately for theft of a motor vehicle and two suspected stolen motorbikes were recovered. Three suspects were also arrested for going equipped to steal.
Meanwhile, two drivers were arrested for DUI, another for driving without insurance and sixteen people were ticketed for using a mobile telephone while driving. Seven tickets were handed out for other minor traffic offences and one driver was also fined for using a vehicle with a tint darker than the legal limit.
Police are also clamping down on underage drinking. Two females, aged 16 and 17, were found at a bar on the West Bay Road, and while there was no evidence that they were consuming or purchasing intoxicating liquor, they were warned and they left the premises. The licensee of the premises was warned for allowing persons under the age of 18 to be in a bar.
“Our officers are extremely dedicated and committed to making our communities a safe place to live, work and visit, and we will continue to support the other operational strategies in bringing all resources to bear on tackling criminal activities and quality-of-life issues,” an RCIPS spokesperson stated. “We know, however, that we can’t do this without the help and support of the community, the media and other civic groups, and we appeal to all to continue supporting your local police and report criminal or suspicions activities.”

The RCIPS should be doing this all the time why is this good news and isn't this part of Commisioner Baines job to implement these strategies to keep Cayman safe?
Sounds good, but in most countries that is a daily occurrence not a special operation.
By special operation, do you mean ….. Clamp Down!?
Underage drinking, really?????? the night clubs allow underage kids in, so you think when they drink at home, their parents are paying any attention. DON"T THINK SO!!!
I suspect you could have had similar resutls without a special operation. Why don't we stop every car that has a tinted licence plate cover. Really no need for them but I'm sure that would turn up dozens of other offences.
Stop and search all cars with illegal tint and have the tint removed immediately.
No on likes it but it works – social profiling. Anyone who fits the profile gets searched. Whether in a car or walking on the street. Search the drugs houses everyday. They will eventually move.
Become so annoying to these petty drug addicted criminals. That they will get caught or not bother because it is too much work to avoid the police.

Good to see this proactive aproach, now do it 24/7. everyone know who the trouble makers are. If you continue to do this and keep your lips sealed you will get more support from the public.

Islands, there are no reason the illegal activities cannot be smothered and choked.
Once the public believe in you you will get all the support you need to catch the biggest of the big. Remember the small fry now will soon become the big fry. all our problems started because we turned a blind eye to all the little illegal activities.Good to see licences being held accountable, too many establishments are filled with underage people and on their premises.
Take their license and jail the bar tenders, cannot produce a valid ID, sorry you could old and gray no ID you got to go. I'M in my 40's when I travel have to show ID all the time, do not have a problem with that.
Thank for the proactive aproach now 24/7, by the way too many cars on the road without lights indicators etc. trucks with people in the back and loads that are not secure.

I think I saw one more police car than I would normally over that two week period, that is to say, one in total. Frightened the life out of me. Thought he was lost.
