Driver trapped in car during early morning smash
(CNS): Emergency crews were forced to extract a driver from a car smash in the early hours of Friday morning. The 31-year-old woman, who is in hospital with significant but non-life threatening injuries, was driving a Daihatsu Charade car heading south on Birch Tree Hill Road in West Bay, when it smashed into a concrete wall at the intersection with Andresen Road. The driver, who was freed from the car by fire officersr using the “Jaws of Life”, received injuries to her face, upper body and legs. A 23-year-old man in the front passenger seat received injuries to his face, legs and a dislocated shoulder. Police, medics and fire crews attended the scene and the couple were taken to the George Town hospital by ambulance.
Anyone who may have witnessed the accident or can assist the police with their investigation is asked to contact the West Bay Police Station at 949-3999.

I can’t figure out how the coverage of a near – fatal accident degraded into an attack on the district of West Bay!!! Unnah should be ashamed of unnah self!! Oh…obviously unnah don’t have any.
Why in heck is everyone picking on West Bay? Killling I don't condone (and this is a very big concern) but it is not random!
Every district in this island has it's own problems.
A lot of West Bayers wish that there was a bridge between them and the rest of the island. I for one would love to be able to not have to leave the district. Separate it by Tiki Beach I say, or better yet, lock it off at West Bay Cemetery.

We need a point system. Cameras at each light and stop sign. After a loss of a certain number of points licence is lost for 3/6/12 months etc
And double points if the driver is under 25 or from West Bay.

Haven't you noticed that it is a large percentage of individuals that use bicycles regularly are in West Bay? I don't mean recreationally for leisure. This is the primary means of transportation. This is not due to some Go Green initiative. The real reason is because these people previously held drivers licences and lost them due to various driving infractions.
More police, 3 tickets and you have no more license for the rest of your life.

Making comments like yours; simply in order to provoke a reaction and sow dissention among the people living in Cayman, does nothing but illustrate your shameful ignorance. Cayman would be better off without you. I live in West Bay, and love it here.
The truth was stated. Look at the news reports. Where are the majority of the violent crimes occurring? What is the predominant crime district? XXXXXX Count the shootings and violent deaths in that district versus the rest? How many crackheads and loitering waste of space drug heads are there compared to the rest of the country. West Bay proper drags the rest of the country down.

I am a West Bayer, whom is very-very-very-very- grateful for the Good Old/young West Bayers that first ran from their homes to the scene of the accident in order to help the same people trapped in that car. As I drove upon the scene of the accident these same West Bayers were using their phones to call 911. While they were talking to the 911 operator and at the said time assisting with keeping the people awake until emergency help arrived on the scene. If this was you in an accident in West Bay they/we (West Bayers) will help you as well.
All-in-all thank God, we are still many a good people from/living in West Bay with BIG HEARTS.
On your concerns of the Japanese cars, you may have a point?

I believe these things happen because there's nothing constructive for these young men & women to do, so they jump in their car hoping to find something exciting, but there's nothing! So they become bored and frustrated. This then causes them to try something which they have heard their friends talk about. Stuff that they know is illegal but they give in to temptation and "JUST TRY IT ONCE" Right!
I saw something a few weeks ago at about five o-clock in the afternoon which caused me to wonder! It was a automobile accident where a little car had ran into a fence, then over the edge of the base wall for the fence and sat half-way into the yard which was a foot or so lower than the edge of the road. Thinking I could be of some help I ran over to the car where there were already some people gathered. Immediately I notice that a tow truck would have to be called to move this vehicle.
The person whom I assumed was the driver spoke to me, and I explained to him what I thought could be done to get his car out of the dangerous position where it sat, which was half-way across the travel lane on that side of the road. As to what had happened, I was not aware, but when I spoke to the young man and he responded, I had no idea what he was trying to say.
He spoke in a soft incoherent manner! I kept repeating myself by asking him what did he say. After about the third time it hit me. This young man wasn't just high. He was floating somewhere out there with the space station. Just about then I heard someone call 911 and I left.
The point I'm trying to make here is: Our young people are bored and need a venue where they can meet without having to be tempted by alcoholic beverages, and/or be tempted by those who are trafficking in illegal substances. YOUNG PEOPLE ARE TAKING THEIR OWN LIVES FOLKS! We must protect them from themselves.
Mr. Baines we're calling on you and your men to identify and arrest those "BIG" dealers and suppliers of illegal drugs and paraphernalia. And to our legislators: Listen not to those family members or friends who when discovered importing or distributing illegal substances in this Island, say to you: "You gotta hep me ma friend". Do The Right Thing and say to them!
There was a time when I thought you deserved my friendship, but today that all ended. Because what you are doing serves one purpose and one purpose only. The destruction of our future! And one day it could be my child.

Most people on this island who have been here for awhile, knows practically every drug dealer in their district and those who sell for them. But it seems unless the authorities can catch them on one of the CCTVs these people continue to operate with impunity! And no one "demands" that something be done "SATAT" to help save the lives of our children.
What we hear are stories like one that was [on CNS] a week or so ago. Where the three foreign nationals were caught, having landed illegally in Cayman Brac with some ten thousand dollars in cash, claiming they had been to Cuba to sell fish and I assume "fishing equipment" based on their story. THAT STORY! Should have immediately triggered a red flag. But guess what? Those three men were sent on their merry way by those who made the interdiction, obviously, with any charges. And here I am assuming "and hoping" after contacting their superiors! Were-upon they were told told to let them go. UMMMM! Oh Well!
This is why, we must put into law, a system where-in no group or branch of Government should have a remit to investigate itself. Because no matter how thorough the investigation, if the results are different from what seems obvious to the general public, there will always be some doubt as to the legitimacy of such investigation!
There is a little thing called evidence that is the missing ingredient in your perfect world theory. If the weight of evidence rested on stories that raised red flags, most of the local guys who hang around royal palms on Friday night's could be arrested!

Not really where the car's from that's the problem, more the fact they haven't been safely maintained and whatever inspection process they are supposed to have gone through hasn't worked. I can't be the only person driving noticing the cars going down the road that look like crabs, so badly put back together after a crash that they are going sideways, wheels that flap around under wheel wells with broken springs or worn out shock absorbers, tyres that are shiny from the lack of tread, cars that dive and pull left or right under braking, rust eating holes through the chassis, leaking break fluid…and that's just this morning's drive in to work!
