Prisoner comes close to choking on drugs
(CNS): A suspect remanded in the courthouse cells Thursday almost choked on a parcel of what was believed to be ganja. The man, who was awaiting a summary court appearance, caused a commotion in the downstairs jail during the trial of McKeeva Bush and interrupted the morning’s proceedings. The audible commotion caused the court to temporarily suspend the former premier’s hearing when the noise from the inmate became so loud that the witness could no longer be heard in the court. Officials confirmed that the suspect had ganja concealed on his person and when prison guards attempted to seize the drugs the prisoner tried to swallow them.
However, the drugs were said to be wrapped in plastic and as a result the inmate came close to choking on the contraband before they were dislodged from his throat.
He was then literally dragged into the court room by police and prison guards and physically hauled into the dock and presented to Justice Mettyear who warned the prisoner that his time in custody would be extended further if he continued disturbing the trial.

For clarification, the individual in question was just remanded to custody and was not yet a prisoner of either RCIPS or HMCIPS. In taking him into custody and being searched, the drugs were discovered and he put them in his mouth so they wouldn't be discovered or taken from him. Thank God for the officers who assisted him after his decision to swallow. He could have been a fatality.
He wasnt in prison YET he was appearing in Court with the expectation of being remanded.
To be that stupid and a criminal is a terribly unfortunate combination.
I wonder if this prisoner will be charged for possession, consumption of a controlled drug?
i don't wish death on anyone, well maybe. But dats wha u get bobo
Wishing death on someone doesn't make you any better than that person. This is a terrible situation all around, and it says alot about the security officers and prison officers who had no clue this prisoner had weed on his person. Are they not searched thoroughly before leaving the prison, before entering the court house? What if he had a gun and intended to use it? slackness all around I say.
We are all better than that prisoner. We don't do drugs. We aren't in prison. We aren't stupid enough to try to swallow a bag of weed and choke on it. We are better than him and always will be.
The only terrible thing is the poor security.
Or maybe we have not been caught. Think about it!
Or maybe we are not stupid enough to get caught. Think about it.
The prisoner brought, or received, drugs from or somewhere between prison to the courthouse? Who was assigned to search and/or have custody of the prisoner, and what happens to them? Obviously they aren't our finest are they?! Baines?
and did he use a government credit card to buy them?
That is funny, was this guy searched before he was taken to court, was the area searched before He was locked in the cell? Something strange here. How was he planning to take it back to the prison, ah ah ah
I'm not a GANGA smoker but I can tell you what If I had a choice between Ganga and Alcohol guess what I would do Ganga first, at least you don't hear people dying from driving drunk or killing someone else or making an a.%% out of themselves from ganga like alochol..Yeah he is wrong for having ganga there, but commenting about he should die by chokcing is un-call for. What they need to do is legalize ganga get rid of those bars that is only distroying all caymanians family..
You really believe that ganga doesn't destroy families? Now you are living in a bubble
What is "ganga"?
like alcohol fatality rate? the drunk driver that killed my father ruined my family.
Maybe I'am living in a bubble, but a bubble with you in it ,WE BOTH LIVE CAYMAN. No form of drug is good, but what I was trying to get at is everyone make GANGA seem like that is the worse drug out there, when to me its is like a bush..it good for everything.I prefer to see people smoke it and they stay in there yards and do no harm, than to see young or old people destroying the body parts or dying from one of the highest drug there is and that is that good ole Alcohol that anyone rearly make any comments NEGATIVE comments about..But yet when they go hard on alcohol there turn into idiots and there anger turn out that causing them to pick fights and sometimes end up killing someone, but I guess you prefer that..(now who is living in a bubble) it dosent matter who agree or not, thats just my opinion.
If he was remanded in the courthouse cells for a summary court appearance, how did he get the drugs?
Unless he decided to bring them with him to court, he must have obtained the drugs while in custody.
He should have choked. Society would be better off. What a waste of public funds for this prisoner. He's probably using legal aide too.
And, I guess, he receives "Legal AId" as well!
Legalize it me we'll have pothad stoners gagging from west bay to east end
make sure you get in line.
Pathetic all around. Anyone believe he smuggled drugs from prison to the Court?
Exactly! wonder IF the Judge asked the prisoner officer or security how a prisoner in custody happen to have drugs? I can bet not one Caymanian driving the van, standing at the court house door, was a secuirty or police…….Cayman you want it, you got it, but keep living in fearand heads in the sand, see if that will help.
………..why not let him choke?????
Proof: Ganja Kills!
The prisoner didn't die, you idiot. So that's not proof, you idiot.
These guys are unbelievable. He should have been allowed to choke to death. Since he wasn't, he should have been immediately sentenced to five more years in jail-not threatened with it. We are so soft.
you are an idiot.
47 people do not agree with you, bobo.
his time in custody would be extended if he continued to disrupt the trial………..but not for the fact that he had contraband on him and then tried to hide it? pile of fools
