Man shot in West Bay bar
(CNS): Police say an 18-year-old man is in custody following a shooting at Kelly’s Bar in West Bay. Although officers were unable to reveal the full details, a police spokesperson from George Town said a man had been taken to the Cayman Islands Hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound in the leg following an incident which happened around 8:40pm this evening (Thursday 24 June). Police said there were no suspects at this time but detectives were still at the scene and an investigation was now underway. Other CNS sources have revealed that the shooting appears to have connections with previous shootings in the West Bay area. (Photo Dennie Warren Jr)
Anyone who has any information about the incident, or who was in the area of Kelly’s Bar at the relevant time and witnessed the shooting, is asked to contact West Bay police station on 949-3999 or Crime Stoppers 800-8477 (TIPS).

I notice ever since we got this UK Commissioner, crime has increased. His Gun Amesty idea to rid guns from the streets, came on the deaf ears of criminals.
It is not the UK commissioner out committing these crimes, but our own sloppily raised kids who have Mom & Dad backing up their every whim since the day they were born.
Stop looking for people to blame..it our Caymanians that are doing this BS….you guys are always ready to point the finger at some other nationality!!!!!!! Our young men and women need to find some ambition and WORK!!!

Honestly I think the government is to blame for all of the crimes taking place because if they had an institute that the young people can get involved in positive things instead of all this crime that’s taking place in our homeland the Cayman Islands doesn’t need to turn into a third world country for example: Jamaica and it’s high crime rates!
Being the first because we have so many of them commenting offences as well for instants Mrs.Estella Scott-Roberts who was assulted,rob and murdered! .
It’s is a shame what Grand Cayman has come this Island is suppose to a very low crime rate place but no instead they sky high crime rates what going to happen it tourist become affraid to come to our island and tourism is our mean way of having funds on a monthly basis.
What the "GOVERNMENT" should do is stop wasting money on things that are a waste of money because in the end it’s us caymanians to has pay for their actions and we still don’t get see anything from it! … Am I Correct? … Thought So Too!
____TO DO LIST FOR THE GOVERNMENT!____
1) Provide college scholarships for the born caymanians! So that they can futher their education overseas as well.
2) Provide trainning for high school leaver/drop-outs so they can have some kind of qualifications for completing a course of variety of trainning in different areas of their intrest! Plus they will have their diplomas.
3) Encourage them reward them!
4) Have a recreational centre that the young caymanians can have place to look foward too on the weekends etc that educational and also fun to attend because we all like excitement .
5) Have a mandatory in school extra help/studying Eg: tutoring classes that ALL caymanian children will be on top even in their worst subject!
This is A Solution To The Problem We Are Currently Facing!

Good points, except why is it the governments fault? I am sorry but I am sick of parents/public blamming the gov for everything. The community can help as well….the parents can help as well….the family can help as well….love and support is what is needed for the young people.
A school/institue or programme is NOT a HOME. If there is no love or support from the home front then young people are more likely to fall into ‘gangs’.

Government is partly to blame when millions of dollars are wasted on Cayman Airways and Botswain’s Beach and the budget for the NDC is reduced! Don’t you think this has more to do with drugs than an airline or turtles?
Churces are making all the money but is not helping the community except asking for 20% of salary.
Which of the foreign own churches can say they have offered a scholarship or a job to a Caymnanian student. If they have it is to someone from their own country. I have stopped blaming these robbers now, because things just are not going the right way here. The police need to stop chasing crooks and robbers here on the Island, because they are not getting any thanks dont care how much they do.
Isn’t that nice monthly salary thanks enough?
Forget about a to do list for Government. Here’s a to do list for the kids:
1. Apply for a study loan like everybody else. Having to actually pay for your education is not a bad thing. There are many well educated people out there that did not have everything handed to them on a silver platter.
2. If you drop out of high school, you’re on your own. Get a job and realise you’ll have to apprentice for very little money at first, but with perserverance you can still reach great heights. Playtime is over.
3. There is a reward system already… it’s called "not-being-thrown-in-jail-for-being-just-another-stupid-punk".
4. Forget about a recreational centre. You live on a tropical island. You are surrounded by a recreational centre. Go outside and get some exercise.
5. Shool is in itself "mandatory in school extra help". If you are having difficulties with a subject and you approach a teacher after class to help you overcome it, I can promise you they will be more than happy to assist. But this only apply to those who are willing to help themselves. If they dont pay attention during normal school hours, mandatory extra help will still fall on deaf ears after hours.

So, basically, we should have the Government reward high school drop-outs by paying for them to further their education in a college overseas after they turned their backs on education when it was free to begin with?
Not following that train of thought. All I could understand was – Goverenment, give me, give me, give me so I don’t have to rob, steal, burglarize, and murder. Pardon the pun, but give me a break!
OMG!! This is really stating to look bad on Cayman…..stop baling the government for the lazy men/women of Cayman…if they had an opportunity(which I am sure we have many option
Here are the keys to success:
1) Attitude. People with positive attitudes are better received by teachers, mentors and employers.
2) Determination. A determined person typically gets what he wants. Essentially because such a person works harder than most.
3) Luck. Being, or putting oneself, in the right time place at the right time.
We have become a country of beggars looking for handouts and blaming everyone else for our shortcomings.
I recently read an article about Mr. Linton Tibbetts. It said the opportunities available to a son of a merchant and shipbuilder were to be self-made not given. I’m going to repeat "self-made, not given". It is this attitude and determination that made Cayman. What a contrast to today’s complainers.
There should be a permanent police road block and security check at the 4 way stop at West Bay. If it was not for West Bay harboring so much criminality, Cayman would be a safe place.
Please use the brain GOD gave you!!! Don’t you see the crime is taking place all over the islands??? The criminals are not only from WB they are from all over the islands. As for harboring criminals – seems like that is happening all over the islands too.
Don’t paint everyone with the same brush!! Some of us are tired of calling the authorities – we do it every day if we see something suspicious going on!! We talk to anyone who is doing wrong. We watch out for the communities, we volunteer hours of work helping others!! What are you doing??
Since you know of people harbouring criminals why don’t you do your duty and warn them or report them???
Put your brain in gear before you speak/write and take your head out of the sand. Crime is on the increase all over Cayman, every district has it’s share of it, not only West Bay. Robberies, shootings, assaults in GT, BT, Savannah, and everywhere else.
Wake up and open your eyes!
Unfortunately, it never ended! Once the police from the UK packuped so did law and order. 🙁 People know who and when to carry on with.
WE as Caymanians need to be do it for ourselves. Stop taking the foolishness from our family and friends and turn these criminals in!
WE need to conduct proper background checks on all our Police, train them better, arm them and turn them on the criminals!
WE need to ensure our prison system rehabs those who are interest more effectively and make those not intersted in rehab, sorry they ever thought a criminal thought in their lives.
WE need to remember prevention is better than cure. Parents need to be better parent and STOP creating more neglected and abuse children who often turn into criminals.

And the government is allowing the of raising light bills, gass bills, food bills water bills and cutting poor people salary. Soon people will have to be running to their cars after work. Cant stay late at the office any more, dont know who is watching.
Why dont the premier enforce PAYROLL TAX?. The way cayman is going now, honestly I see the robbing with a purpose. Some people may think that it cant happen to them. Just you wait and see.
