Miss Cayman Islands prepares for the big event
(CNS): Having arrived in the Bahamas earlier this month Nicosia Lawson aka Miss Cayman Islands is getting into the swing of the Miss Universe pageant. The big event takes place on 23 August at the Atlantis on Paradise Island, meanwhile Nicosia and her 83 fellow competitors are involved in a whirlwind of social events and public appearances. Although beauty pageants have come in for considerable criticism over the years for their objectification of women — however there is not doubt that getting through the competition can be beneficial for both contestants and the country which they represent.
Nicosia secured the Miss Cayman Islands crown last August among considerable controversy because although the 26 year-old is Caymanian she was born in St Vincent and moved to Cayman as a child. At the time Miss Cayman Islands Chairperson Jacqueline Terry regretted the controversy and said Nicosia’s status was in line with the international pageant rules.

I have been following the Miss Cayman beauty pagents since the late 1970’s,Nicosia is one of the most beautiful and intelligent repersentatives of our islands in recent times.Cayman lets support this wonderful young lady in anyway we can,Nicosia good luck to you and God bless you.
I wanted to say Good luck to Nicosia, she is a very beautiful and intelligient woman.
My only regret is the choice of evening gown. It is a nice and safe dress but nice and safe dresses NEVER get you best dress in that competititon. I thought that it was the objective to be the best not the safest in a compettion. Her evening dress for the Miss Cayman competition was much nicer. I wonder if the people who chose the dress for her really thought it through when the selected it. I am not saying that she needed to dress like a harlot but gosh it could have had a little more pizzaz about it. Nothing intriguing about it, nothing that makes you want to see more of the dress. To make my point, look at the other competitors’ evening dresses and you will see what I am talking about.
With that said, I still say Good luck Nicosia, you make Cayman proud!!!

I will support you Nicosia, your a very beautiful, smart and educated young lady. You do set an example as a role model for all our young Caymanian people.
This is what I want to see from all our other young people, show us what you will become, prove to us that you can beat all odds, and put away the guns so we can all be proud of you all like we are very proud of Miss Nicosia.
