Anti-corruption team sent to Turks and Caicos

| 26/08/2009

(FT.Com): The former head of the abortive probe into suspected bribery linked to a BAE Systems arms deal with Saudi Arabia is to lead an anti-corruption team in a Caribbean tax haven that has been shocked by Britain’s imposition of direct rule. Helen Garlick (left) has begun work in the Turks and Caicos Islands this week as part of a wider British clampdown on governance, which is being watched closely in other overseas territory offshore centres dealing with graft allegations, such as Bermuda and the Cayman Islands.

We can rest easy now.  The UK is investigating corruption wherever it feels comfortable doing so.  What a relief.

Yes Cayman that may very well be the classic scenario, but gone are the days of the well heeled running off to London and Washington with da big Wod$$$$ to take care of business. Those who made it and are living the life have become less important now. Sadly they are not the ones that are going to pay the cost of the extravagant lifestlyes and gluttony and titles in our society, that burden will be carried by all who live here.We are seeing the first signs of this price Crime rising!

Classic. First the UK government shuts down the corruption investigation that is getting too close to powerful UK politicians and government officials saying that investigating corruption involving senior UK officials and politicians was ‘not in the UK’s interest’. Second, destabilise and bankrupt the UK’s competitors in the Overseas Territories by "investigating" our politicians, police and judiciariesa based on no credible evidence whatsoever. Third, drip-feed the FT and other UK and international media with disinformation about graft in Bermuda and Cayman. Fourth, send the UK bureaucrat who became somewhat underemployed as a result of the UK’s declaration that corruption in the UK was not to be investigated because it was bad for business, off to the overseas territories which compete with the UK. Fifth, bamboozle dim-witted politicians in the OTs into meekly complying with efforts run by the OECD and EUto shut down their financial services . You have to give them credit – they are masters.

Our Colonial Masters are also the Masters of Deception and Double Speak.

But having said that…the UK / FCO new about the corruption in TCI for decades, what was the reason why they are taking action now?

The UK / FCO should be investigated for poor governace of the OT’s
