Arrests made in murder case
(CNS): Two men, both aged 22 and both residents of George Town, have been arrested on suspicion of murdering Omar Samuels in the McField Lane area of George Town in the early hours of Sunday, 5 July. Police say the pair were arrested by the murder enquiry team yesterday (Tuesday, 25 August) and remain in police custody at this time. Samuels, 28, was found suffering a gunshot wound to his leg. A post mortem was carried out on Sunday, 12 July, which showed Samuels suffered a single gunshot wound to his leg which penetrated the femoral artery.
Detective Inspector Kim Evans, who is leading the enquiry, said that initially assistance from the community was slow. However, persistent police work and the growing strength of the community helped people to come forward. “I would like to thank all those who have spoken with us,” he said. “We have been working hard to piece together what took place and all the information that has been given to us has been valuable.”
Evans also noted that officers continue to work with the community of McField Lane. “We want to ensure we are doing all we can to make people feel safe,” he said. The enquiry into Samuels’ death is continuing and anyone with information who has not passed it on is encouraged to do so.
DI Kim Evans can be reached on 925-6761 or 925-7240. An anonymous answerphonehas been set up so residents can pass information directly to the police without giving their identity. The number is 949-7777. Alternatively, people can also call Crime Stoppers on 800-8477 (TIPS) which is answered overseas. All persons calling Crime Stoppers remain anonymous, and are eligible for a reward of up to $1000, should their information lead to an arrest or recovery of property/drugs.

I was told that a 3rd person was arrested today for this murder and he is probably the ring leader. Can you verify this CNS??
CNS Note: Yes police say there is another arrest and we are waiting on details
We are missing a very important compoent in our arguments about the criminal element in our islands.
We need to get back to the beginning-Proper Prenting of our children! Has to start there my friends. Instill value for life, trust of each other, respect for people’s property. As soon as our children can understand yes and no we need to start training them properly. The TV, all the brand name clothes and jewelry are not going to cut it.
And how are we raising our children when we as parents think it os OK to go up the high school and threaten teachers when they scold our children or give them a grade they deserve? What lessons are we teaching them?
We get what we tolerate: We must teach our children good manners and respect. We need to take them to Sunday school and church when the Sunday come. They should not be drinking and smoking with us and attending the same parties and night clubs.
If we as parents fail our children, we will be raising illiterate criminals and these lovely islands will be a thing of the past.
Police Department , are you going to charge these guys???????
I can’t wait to see someone change for this murder, someone need to be charge for this and for the young man in West Bay.
Thank you for arresting someone for this murder, but are you going to charge these guys for capital murde?
Of course they won’t be Caymanians will they?
No such thing in Cayman. Death penalty abolished.
The Harsh Truth of Current Caymanian Reality
My fellow Caymanians – listen to me and listen to me well!
Due to the promoted, glorified and praised lifestyle of a "thug" in hip-hop, rap and to a lesser extent Reggae Dancehall music we are now seeing what is taking place in Cayman.
No, it is not the fault of the "furriners", nor is it due to the newly arrived economic situation.
Folks, we have 14 year old kids today (and for a number of years before) making conscious and sub-conscious commitments onto themselves to live this life as a "thug"!
What is a "thug" you may ask? In a nutshell, a thug is someone who chooses to live his life against the general grain of society. A thug "hustles"; a thug DOES NOT seek higher education; a thug LAUGHS at the very notion of holding down a 9-5 job; a thug disrespects women and "treats them like the h’s and b’s that they are"; a thug answers to and fears no one; a thug holds absolutely no respect or fear for the police; a thug tends to carry himself in an unkept fashion; a thug OFTEN sports tattoos that pledge allegiance and "love" to fellow thugs (gangs), out-of-wedlock kids, or may even portray a Bible scripture or two; a thug tends to keep or have a strong desire to own a dangerous dog (e.g. Pit bulls); a thug is normally quite well known to his peers; a thug’s general philosophy in life is "get paper" (make money) – and this means BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY – therefore, drug dealing, hits (murders), physical intimidation, extortion and many other heinous acts are simply a part of daily life for a THUG.
Though all of this may strike you as very worrying, this is only half of the problem!
The other half is that the THUG is now THE MOST DESIRABLE MAN within his age range! Yes folks, a thug is NEVER lonely and he has an insatiable appetite for the "good girls" – as they do for him. (Don’t believe me? Ok – walk into any young church group or general place of business, examine the ridiculously high number of single mothers (many newly converted super-Christians mind you)…then ask them "Who is your child’s father? Where is he now?" – I dare you!!).
A thug tends to father multiple illegitimate children, a thug often "steals", albeit temporarily, the girlfriends and wives of law-abiding, decent young (and sometimes older) men. Women, for some inexplicable reason, find the thug irresistible (they claim it is the excitement and sense of protection that he provides??!) A thug has "street dreams" of becoming "hood rich" or basically – gaining wealth by illegal or unconventional means.
So class, as we can see – the thug is quite the colorful character! He gets to live a carefree, unconventional, shallow life and all the while enjoys popularity, a bit of short term "wealth", perhaps a nice car but definitely and most crucially…he gets the MOST GIRLS!! Sounds like a pretty attractive deal to me…IF I didnt have more than half a brain.
Now, I know some may disagree and many may be offended by my words but I honestly do not give 2 hoots about how you feel – this is the situation Cayman is facing – like it or not.
What is the solution – I have absolutely no idea….however, it is clear to see that the reality is very concerning indeed.
** I trust all readers noted my emphasis on the role that young women / girls play in this dilemma. Men will always lean towards doing whatever attracts the females. Good luck to us all. **
Well said. I completely agree with you, in particular about our young girls glorifying these thugs. I’m sure you too have been on Partysurfers.ky/Facebook, etc. and seen pictures of decent young girls latched on to known thugs and grinning it up (or backing up on it!) for the camera! Where’s the pride??
"Where is the pride?!"
My sentiments exactly!
I tell you – as a young, single Caymanian man under the age of 30 finding a Caymanian woman that has NOT indulged in this lifestyle; does NOT have a near teen-aged child; has NOT "had" (I don’t believe it ever really goes away) a fetish for these types of men, does not have some half-psycho jailbird, thugged out ex-boyfriend or "baby-fadda"; has not ruined her reputation by being "one of dem girls" in the past – is like trying to find a needle in a haystack!
Yet at the same time, I am yet to come across a more arrogant, sense of entitlement possessing, high-standards-in-a-man having, attitudinal group of women in this world.
You see, they have a bullet-proof defense after they pushout 1, 2 or 3 kids – because we all know that SINGLE MOTHERS can NEVER be criticized!!
I’m honestly amazed at the female mindset in Cayman today – but no one wants to address that! All attention is directed towards young men as they seem to be causing most of the trouble, but hello…these young men were most likely raised by who? – YOUNG, SINGLE MOTHERS! Who by the way likely made HORRIBLE choices in the "men" they slept with!
Therefore, it seems obvious that a useful starting point to our current dilemma may be to examine this issue! But NOOOO we can’t do that – how dare I suggest such a thing – each of these precious, delicate young flowers were simply immature and SEDUCED by the wayward ways of the low-life thugs that they decided to lay with and pro-create! Its not HER fault…let us all come together as a community / family / church group and NEVER question her actions or values – after all…there is a child to pamper and dote upon now…aaahh – what bliss, what a wonderful way to re-channel the shameful reality of this plight!
As I see it – Cayman is FAST adopting the statistics and ills of a certain ethnic minority group of a certain super-nation to the immediate north of our islands.
(Now, before anyone throws a hissy-fit – in no way am I suggesting there is some inherent flaw within that group – they are simply suffering from the typical environment of lower socio-economic groups in the Western world – go to England and Scotland and you’ll find the very same thing – even when one removes the "immigrant" population.)
My overall point is that due to popular culture (music, movies, entertainment, videos, BET etc.) the young Caymanian mindset is being led and controlled by the worst possible option – the one that is now dis-enfranchised, frustrated, and super-rebellious due to historical racial/social developments in that part of the world. This genre of entertainment is very attractive and our young people (for NO GOOD REASON – as evidenced when one considers our general standard of living and opportunities as a community!) have identified with it and incorporated it into our own national psyche.
At last some true Caymanians are coming forward and denouncing these home grown thugs instead of just blaming foreigners or whatever.
So true what they are saying about the wannabe gangsters and it being a popular lifestyle here as they get the women and the drugs and with a very very low chance of getting caught and made to pay for their crimes. Even if they did get nicked for their crimes they usually geta let off as the courts don’t want to ruin the ‘potential’ of these young caymanians. It’s too late by then, their families let them down years ago, the only solution now is a long stretch in prison.
Families still stick up for their thug children, blaming foreigners taking their jobs, lack of opportunities etc etc. Their families never set them good examples or encouraged them to learn at school, they just follow in their parents footsteps and flunk school and have more children themselves.
It’s time for hard working honest caymanians and expats alike to come together and let these thugs know that they have no place in our islands. If you see them committing crimes, report it to crimestoppers, take a photo on your camera even, get these youths in trouble.
The courts need to play their part by handing down some serious punishments to the losers. Government can play their part by imrpoving education at government schools which lets be fair is appalling. Maybe make some savings by switching off the air conditioning at Northward hotel and selling some of their plasma TVs and investing the money in the schools.
Cayman counseling Jedi Dread get real bro No schools just churchs and penitentiary for the citizenry and oh Brainwash education to make us the fool.
What still bothers me, or rather scares me to core of my soul, are the ages of Cayman’s new breed of killer.
It seems to me that they are all of a specific generation. A specifically young generation.
We need to have some psychologists interviewing these young men, to see what’s really at the core. People will say, oh, it’s the economy and lack of jobs, it’s a money thing! Personally, I’m not so sure this is the case anymore.
Maybe money is the ultimate source of the problem, but what is the catalyst?
@Cayman Counseling… what say you?

Anyway, we must use all the available tools at our disposal to save our precious islands, though I feel, it’s too little, too late.
I leave you with this..

Why not help one another along the way, and make life much easier.
Say, we just can’t live in this negative way. "

May HIS love, protect us all.

Maybe, just maybe, there is hope for the people of Cayman.
Maybe, just maybe, they won’t destroy their own country with their silence.
It is good to see the community starting to offer some help to the police.
If everyone gave assistance in crimes like this the criminals wouldn’t have
a chance. There seems to be distrust with the police but when they get
information from the public then more crimes will be solved and public
confidence hopefully would go up.
Its good to see 12:05
AMEN, amen and amen!!!!!!!!!!
