How can they be certain of their ages? That to me is only speculation… unless they know more than they are saying.

We have visited Cayman for many years, but are seriously considering staying away due to the constant crime we read about. This is the same behavior that goes on by the criminals in our big cities here in the US. Why should we spend ($5K US, ave.) in your country only to be afraid of robbery by the uncivilized machete wielding sub-culture you fail to control?

  4. Beachboi says:

It sounds to me like these girls were bored or maybe it was their gang initiation.  I am sure that there will be lots of crying when they are arrested.  To late chicas!!!  Your nice hard cot and coture uniforms are waiting.  Oh my what will you do with no more pedicures, lip liner and hair extensions???Whatever the case the parents will suffer enough when the young ladies are committed to prison for no less than 25 years in answer to charges of agravated burglary and assault with a deadly weapon.  No bail, no social inquiries, no pity what so ever.  Straight to jail.

I am sure that they did not think about any of the consequences since there is no room in the prison for them anyway.  That and the fact that they see the politicians stealing from the people ever day

Everyone seems to want to automatically blame the police when the police can only carry out their jobs with what minimal resouces they have.  There is no deterrent in this country toward crime so why should these criminals be afraid to continue to "make a quick buck".

I say that the murderers should be hanged immediately and the other prison inmates should be made to build new prison cells.  There must be a few contractors and electricians being held at the leisure of the Queen.  No pay for them either!!  Before that though the heads of the prison should be fired immediately for not using the simple tool of K-9 units to keep the ganja out of the prisons.  Right now prisoners smoke ganja and drink their home made wine while sitting in their cells with the new oscillating fans to cool things down and watch DVD;s.  This and 3 meals a day with no mortgage makes me think about it as an option to struggling day to day to get bye.

I know that the church will not like the idea of the death penalty, but it is about time that someone tell the ministers association that they were not elected to run this country and they should just stick to running their businesses and back out of the picture.  If they really want to help they should donate some of the vast monies that they collect and help these programs to be implemneted.

Our leaders are sure setting a fine example for our young people and their parents as well by breaking the highest laws of the land and not only getting away with it, but also being awarded for their wrong doings by the courts.

So please stop and remember that and demand that our leaders set the kind of examples for us all to follow.

All I’m saying is there must be a mother/father out there somewhere knowing it was their daughter and her friends who went out and did this.  I can’t imagine any regular 13 to 19 year old having not only the ability to drive, but also sufficient funds to go out and buy a White RAV4 – any parent who bought one of these for their daughter should be checking where she was at the time this incident took place.

    • Anonymous says:

Your comments show part of the problem, not with you but the fact that there are many parents who do not know what their children are doing at any given time.

I will give these parents the benefit of the doubt that they care about their children but are focused upon different things.

In this day and age with the crime and violence for a parent to not make an effort to know what their child is doing makes me question what exactly are their true priorities.

When the young man was murdered at the Next Level night club in front of 150 young people, how many parents knew their child was there at the club at that time? How many questioned their child about what happened?

No one came forward with information.

I think this is the Government’s solution to the economy. Let the scum rob everyone else, saving the Government having to implement taxes to keep these ****s in prison/school/some-drugged-up-state/working in the Public Sector.

One of these days a victim will fight back & we’ll be dismayed further when they get prosecuted & the scum get away with it.

Criminals & gangsters are pathetic losers who can’t keep jobs or support their families. Jail them please someone.

Firstly, IF they drove off down into Pedro Castle Road there is only one way in and out of there. Did the police conduct a road block?? Secondly, if no one has been arrested how did the witnesses (assuming this is who the information is coming from) know what age range to classify these vagabonds into? I know of kids who are 15 years old and look about 21 and vice versa I know of people who are 28 years old and look about 18. The article should have said that the vagabonds looked to be around the age of 13-19 rather than “The suspects are described as aged between 13 and 19 years” kind of misleading there?!?

Food for thought: don’t we have truancy officers who should be able to tell us which 13-16 year olds were missing from school on that day?

It is sad that our society has lost its morals and values.  There are some who now think that they don’t have to work for anything, but can be like pirates and just use force and intimidation to take what others work hard for.  They are the same ones who likely grew up in an environment where they saw the saw the same thing occurring and took no interest in schooling and learning, wasted those years and now find themselves without the ability to earn a decent living and rather than try to go back to school and get an education, wants the easy way out.

I suggest that it is time to train and permit security guards to carry firearms to protect themselves and the entities they look after.  This problem is not going to go away and the proper treatment need to be applied to this disease.

It’s so sad that Grand Cayman has become a violent and scary place to live.   We can’t even go buy a pizza, or fill our car with gas, or go to the bank without constantly looking over our shoulder andworrying that we may get shot or hacked with a machete.

Tell me, how is it possible for somebody to get away with shooting a woman in the face, in a busy bar, in broad daylight?

I’m relieved we’re leaving here soon (after 10 years here) but sad it wasn’t possible to make this place our home.

    • Anonymous says:

It’s possible for criminals to get away when witnesses decline to provide testimony that is need for prosecution, as what happened in the case with the lady shot in the face- that’s the way it is in the justice system- everyone has a right to a fair trial, if there is not enough evidence the person has to go free.  Best of luck in your move, hoope you are going somewhere where there is less crime…

      He got away because:

I say the person [who shot me] had a mask on. I told them that.” “When I got shot I lost my memories, so I don’t know who shot me.”
Quote from the woman shot in her face.

More importantly, there was a police blockade some 200 yards away to the east where they were stopping cars and checking registrations! Surely, if teh alarm had been turned in, one of these police cars could have reacted as they were within seconds of the location.

Again the description is pathetic. Are these dark skinned? white? asian? Jamaican?

Such basic information should be on any description, however many Caymanians are upset by it. This must be being held back presumably to stop offending the locals.

These are clearly amateurs as they hit a small pizza joint in the middle of the day. A pro would know that food businesses would be cash heavy at the end of the day, but for dominos in the early afternoon they would have taken very little, justa few lunch orders mainly offices paid on the card.

If they get away with it then it shows how truly incompetent the police are or how thoroughly corrupt the island is. There aren’t many RAV 4s on the island, that cuts down the numbers a bit, get roll call information from the schools, see who wasn’t there, compare this with the “real” descriptions which obviously includes nationality, skin, height etc and you’ve narrowed it down to a fairly small group, small enough surely to begin to divide and conquer and play them against each other to get people talking. Come on get a grip people.

"Are these dark skinned? white? asian? Jamaican?" you forgot CAYMANIAN !

      • Anonymous says:

Caymanian is not a skin colour!!  As with any nationality there are many different looking people making up the nation, so no, that shouldn’t have been included in that contributors list.  Same with Jamaican.  If we’re talking of identifying the girls by their accents, that would be a different matter.

Honestly, I use to complain about this as well, but have since figured the RCIPS doesn’t want any help from Joe Public.  Just think, there was a bank robbery in Savannha, UNSOLVED as to date, and NO releaseof the bank robbers.  Makes you think they might come from a prominent family doesn’t it…

RCIP is complete joke.  I do believe there are good police officers, without question, but taken a whole, they couldn’t solve a crime if it hit them square in the head.  Oh wait, that did happen with the fight a few weeks back, they just stood around.

  16. ExBlueGirl says:

There needs to be some changes to the Law.  Parents need to be made accountable…literally!  They should be charged and attend Court along with their children who commit these unlawful acts.

Gone are the days of responsible parenting.  I have seen some downright nasty parents…and everyone wonders where the children are getting it from?!!  These type of parents actually condone their childrens’ misbehaviour, they actually promote it!

Uneducated babies are having babies, who are having babies.  There is no foundation for a quickly growing segment of our society.

I feel for a lot of single mothers out there, it is very difficult for them.

Poor Country….if it broke now, how is it going to cope with a bunch of young adults who don’t want to work and overloaded prisons.

    • Anonymous says:

I totally agree with you. Parents should be held accountable for their children actions. Investigation should be made and if they are found to be irresponsible, then they should be charged. it is harder on a single parent, but it does not excuse them.I have been a single parent and even though it was hard, I did not use it as an excuse to let my children run free and become a nuisance to society. it is not fair that these children alone pay for their actions while the  delinquent parents gets away with it. Research has shown that parents most of the times are the main contributors to their children becoming delinquents. I do not need to a report to tell me that, I see  delinquent parents  everyday and it grieves me to the core.

    • Anonymous says:

I agree with most of your statement. But I don’t feel for the single mothers. I pity them for making such stupid mistakes and resent my taxes being wasted to pay for their upkeep. Young Caymanian girls need to be taught some morals and stop sleeping around with losers and wangsters.

If these girls weren’t putting out so easy we wouldn’t have all these kids being born into broken homes.

      • Anonymous says:

You are so right. I certainly do not feel sorry for these single mothers, it was their choice. Many o fthem have been taught morals but they ignore what their parents teach them and follow their peers having sex with multiple partners. It is very concerning the number of young girls, Caymanian and foreign nationals living here, who are engaging in these behaviours. Something needs to be done to put the spotlight on what is happening and try to influence them in another direction.

  17. Concern Native to the bone says:

It’s very scary living and working here in Cayman at this time. Like one blogger said, things were kinda quiet until the release of a few notorious Killers were let go from prison. What can be done to solve these petty crimes? More policing? No! More CC servallance? No! More security guards? No! Hot boiling water to disburse on intruder? No! Acid? Yes, maybe! So what should we do then?

Wakeup politicians. It’s time we get tough on crime. Pass the necessary laws that will allow business people and up-right citizens to arm themselves with a firearm. The current firearms law is very minimal and gives the commissioner too mush say in the issuance of firearms. But let’s go further, the law must protect the victim, e.g. if a robber or intruder is shot within 500 ft of the victim that will be self-defence and there is no case to answer. The laws must be straight and not as it is currently slanted towards the robbers.

  18. Voice of Reason says:

Once again – let’s blame the police. That’s an easy band wagon to jump on.

The police can deal with the crime once it has happened but the police can;t be blamed for creating the circumstances that lead these young people (and children!) offending in the first place.

WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE PARENTING IN CAYMAN???

What particular circumstances have to be going on at home which leads to the children offending like this? Is this possibly connected with the out and out disdain that many children have for school and their own education?

  19. genetic mutation says:

A couple points here that we need to be concerned about:

    1. brazen – middle day, poorly disguised etc…

    2. 3 young girls – sounds like this may be some kind of dare or initiation to something bigger

    3. most concerning thing is this – if this happened (3 young kids robbing joint in middle of day and escape route and even car seen) in the real world, those girls would have been caught and arrested within about 12 minutes.

    • Anonymous says:

"if this happened (3 young kids robbing joint in middle of day and escape route and even car seen) in the real world, those girls would have been caught and arrested within about 12 minutes" are you suggesting the government are like letting these small crimes go for a weird reason ?

    • anonymous says:

There ought to be a law that everyone with children of school age should be mandated to attend a parenting class. IT SHOULD BE ‘THE LAW"

Since I’m paying your taxes, and buying your bread and meat, Yes I’m telling you what to do!  GOVERNMENT MUST PASS A LAW THAT MAKES IT MANDATORY THAT ANY PARENT WHETHER SINGLE , DIVORCED, SEPARATED, OR OUT OF WEDLOCK,  THEY MUST ATTEND  PARENTING CLASSES and teach them how to be parents.

Children are being draged up instead of brought up. Put a stop to this nonsense, its a social menace.

Put the kinds in technical school and the parents in parenting school and drug and alcohol rehab if necessary stop playing with the issues and face them.

Don’t just hand out fre social services children and family aide to them, they must enroll in a program to make life better for them and their children, promoting their education to get a better job to become self sufficient and come off welfare, and pay for childcare instead of drugs and alcohol!

      • Rorschach says:

I disagree…the churches need to step back and let the schools teach proper sex ed and inform young people that they have options available to them to prevent unwanted pregnancies…the old line about abstinance obviously isn’t working, so give people information and tools to prevent these children having children..

This is absolutely shocking stuff thats going on just now.

It used to be isolated to certain areas, now it’s all over!  At what point does it have to get to before the Authorities do something about it?

You have to ask yourself. "Why are charges getting thrown out of court?"  Quite simple. there is so much doctoring of the log books.  That cop might be a cousin, or an uncle or a member of their family, so they make the papers get lost.  When it comes to Court day, they haven’t got their xxxx together, so it’s not just the Courts that are failing us, it’s the Police Officers that aren’t trained enough to do their job.  They should be held accountable too.

I have heard this so many times it’s scary!

I found most of the contributions thus far to this thread to be as pathetic as the behavior of these young women.

This is not a joke or a game this is armed robbery. These young women somehow developed such a sense of right and wrong as to believe that armed robbery in broad daylight was a reasonable course of action.

I am reminded of the young men who robbed the bank in broad daylight as to my knowledge as yet have not been charged.

These crimes indicate a basic breakdown in a very small society and I for on do not see this as funny.

And I don’t give a damn how you vote about these comments.

    • Backstroke says:

Whose  asleep at the wheel? Surely we will blame the cops and society, this I beleive is not the problem. The problem lies squarely on the poor parenting of these young people.

When a child can be disruptive in school, on the bus to & from school and bully the teachers and other students, disrespect people that they meet on the streets, walk around with their pants below their *** crack, thats not cops/ society, thats your fault parents.  Get involved with your child, know where they are as much as possible, do not condone the type of behaviour that is happening today. From the ranting calls to rooster and some of the blogs here on CNS, we have a serious problem here, and I’m not sure that the police can do or should do anything about it

You all need to get a grip on life and get some self help aid, you are pathetic, look at what you have done to my Island, shame on you, I am not an expat, I am B/B right here on these shores no expat parents either. I have had enough of your selfish hateful attitudes.
