Frog cuts power to over 13,000 homes
(CNS): A power outage in the early hours of Thursday morning stretching from West Bay to East End was caused by a frog, the country’s power supplier, CUC, has confirmed. More than 13,450 electricity customers in George Town, West Bay, Seven Mile Beach and up to Frank Sound and the Queen’s Highway in East End were without power for around 1 hour and 30 minutes between 2:10 am and 3:48 am when power was restored. CUC also stated that the outage was not connected to an island wide cut over the weekend and both were isolated incidents.
“This outage was the result of an animal making contact with one of our lines causing some of the feeders to trip. As always our teams worked hard to restore the power as quickly as possible and in a safe and efficient manner,” a CUC spokesperson said. “Although this outage closely follows the island-wide outage over the weekend, the Company can confirm that these are isolated incidents with no long-term or permanent impact on the integrity of its electrical systems.”
The power company did not reveal the breed of frog or explain exactly how it managed to cause such a widespread outage across the island but CUC offered its apologies for the inconvenience the frog caused to its customers.

That frog’s got the power!
My condolences to the Frog Family for their loss.
Mr. Frog was a happy soul. Always smiling and making noise. Just happy to be alive. His life was cut short by the cruel monopoleon named CUC. (Please note the sarcasm to Napoleon here VIVA LA FRANCE’)
Upset that he may expose their scheme to rob the poor people of the Cayman Islands, they set out on a mission to get rid of him. So one lonely night this week while no one was watching…the CUC Security hacked open a section of their network. They captured Mr. Frog and threw him in there and executed him. But what they did not realise was that as he was being executed by their Anti Animal Device he reached for a wire and the current went from his body into the wire and zapped the guards and in so doing so SHUT DOWN the evil Monopoleon’s ROB THE PEOPLE system and in the blink or an eye or as fast as you can say ribbit the system was shut down.
Down to show the people of Cayman just how badly they are being robbed. Shut down to show the people of Cayman that even a little frog can bring down a big bad Monopoly!
MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PIECES. He has now gone to that Spring Chicken Festival in the sky!!
Looks like Kermit finally got caught by Miss Piggy.
Sparks always fly with True Love.
Ha Ha – Classic
Did they give a nationality? Caymanian, Ex-pat, It was French wasn’t it?
Why must we always get zee blame?? ribbett..
"An animal making contact" makes it sound like it was a large thing that came into contact with a line. A FROG?!?!?! Let’s say the frog was 3 inches, pretty big for a frog. But still, isnt CUC supposed to account for these types of incidents when it builds/designs etc. its electrical equipment? You mean to tell me that every time a frog comes into contact with a line it’s going to trip the feeders? That doesnt sound right. Sounds "fishy" to me….*sigh* And the monopoly continues….
What a frog huh?!
A frog! Did they say frog?
This is a load of Bull. If a frog can do that he must be a bloody big frog. I want to know which part of the system he came in contact with that could bring down the entire network. Surely they think we are all stupid and they can tell us anything. If a frog can bring down the system imagine what a chicken can do. I have seen birds getting fried on the ploes and nothing happens so how can a frog bring the island to its knees. People if you believe this then you are stupid and if this is possible then one of the planners of the netword distribution system needs to be fried, i mean fired.
How come a frog never manages to get into their billing system and bring that down for a few hours.
Yes Bull-frog, perhaps
How lucky we are that there are so few frogs in Cayman….
Bloody French!
Trust the French!
