Progressives to launch manifesto at national meeting

| 01/05/2013

manifesto launch.jpg(CNS): The largest political group in the race for the Legislative Assembly will be launching its manifesto Thursday, setting out the Progressives' policies for government if it wins a majority at the polls later this month. The PPM will be hosting the launch in George Town, where they will present their plans. Opposition Leader Alden McLaughlin, who is hoping to wake up on 23 May as premier, said that the past four years of the UDP administration has been a failure of “epic proportions" and a period like no other the Cayman Islands had ever seen. He said the Progressive party would be setting out what it would do once in office.

“The manifesto we will present tomorrow is a promise to the people of Cayman,” McLaughlin said. “We believe the Progressives offer the best hope for the kind of leadership that Cayman needs in these challenging times. “The first and foremost challenging task of a new administration is to restore trust and confidence in the government and the Cayman Islands as a whole.”

He said the Progressives manifesto was the pledge of the team to work together to bring back pride to Caymanians and residents who love this country. The goals detailed in the manifesto include a blueprint to restore confidence in the government, stamp out corruption, re-build the economy and reduce the cost of living and provide more opportunities.

The full team of candidates running in the Sister Islands, Bodden Town, West Bay and George Town will be there to talk about the PPM policies. The meeting starts at 7:30pm at the Kirk Home Centre.

Assuming you are not being (understandably) sarcastic? Because if you ain't, boy have I got a bridge for you to buy in London!

Boy unnah C4C are busy picking that fight with the PPM eh? Wha tis unnah plans? Do you intend to fire most of the Civil Servants? What are you going to do with Social Services? What are your plans for the unemployed? C4C What are your intentions? Do you have solutions? or are you dependent on the PPM ideas and Manifesto to be revealed, so unnah could steal their ideas. C4C are the biggest critics of the PPM, yet they have no solutions. You think putting all those accountants and lawyers that never done anything for country in the past is the solution, you will be very disappointed on May 22nd, 2013 when the silent majority votes. Civil Servant beware what the C4C intentions are. Your lives will be disrupted, while they balance the sheets and wheel and deal this country for their lobbyists.  PPM is the right party to steady this ship from the corruption and the roaring Lions.

Wait a minute the PPM sorry I mean the rebranded "Progressives" have only now submitted their manifesto just 3 weeks until election?

Just what have the brain trust at the Progressives been doing?

Alden's pandering arguments of reopening West Bay Road sounded lame, where was he in voicing these thought in the last 3 years?

They can try re-launching the Titanic as far as I'm concerned,  I am not voting for any of them, and that includes those other jokers from the UDP and "UDP2". I'm voting Independent as I'm sick to death of this party foolishness, it's the ruination of the country. (And what the heck's the kindergarten stupidness with the colours? Look so flakey, like signalling  "I haven't got a mind of my own",  just so you know!)

    • There There now says:

There There now, calm down, poor poor C4C dont have a tantrum, maybe if you actually have a manifesto next time your party will do better. Right now all we get from C4C is anti-party foolishness that does not help me pay my bills and feed my family. PPM seem to understand that.

PPM ..pulling up the rear as usual…these guys need to learn how to get with the program and be the leaders not he last ones out of the gate..What's wrong with these guys? This is the reason it is hard for me to vote for them..If they are going to call themselves the progressives they need to be progressive and proactive..

Last night i felt like i was in a history class. All they talked about was the past. We need new leaders with vision and foresight who can restore our country to the envy of the rest of the world.

The "Progressives" hail themselves as the saviors of Cayman politics because they are not corrupt.

Unless they are able to deal with the size of government and governmental spending and do this by cutting costs then they are not up to the task at hand.

The PPM powder puff discussion of the road and the Boddentown dump will not turn the country around.

I frankly have not seen or heard anything from Alden to suggest that he is up to the challenges the country faces at this time.

Cheerleading is not enough this country must enact the suggestions of the Miller-Shaw report and be straight with the voters.

More spending by the Progressives will only lead us to direct taxation and if that is the case it should be called "the Alden tax".

I for one do not like to be shouted at, and thats all they did. No solutions or vision.

      • Anonymous says:

What you're saying is that you prefer to be shouted at by mckeeva.  In that case I would certainly have the intelligenct to attend mckeeva's meetings and stay away from the PPM's.

"have the intelligenct to attend mckeeva's meetings"

          lol

          • Anonymous says:

Have you ever tried growing up? Or are you afraid to leave mckeeva behind.

        • Anonymous says:

No, I think the poster just doesn't like being shouted at by any aspiring politician and I agree with him. How you deduced what you did is quite a mystery to me.

          • Anonymous says:

There is none so blind as he who will not see. There was very simply no one shouting at anybody. Period. End of story. Or do i need to shout?

Maybe you should ask some of the respondents here.

Leading from behind as usual…why didn't they do this at their official launch in Grand Harbor??

  9. Anonymous says:

Seems to me we STILL have about 14 UDP supporters left in Cayman. Man that's scary.

  10. Anonymous says:

    by manifesto…they mean a list of non-specific cliched soundbites….

  11. Anonymous says:

Their manifestos are always comprehensive – and they accomplish the things in them. Looking forward to getting my hands on it.

  12. Anonymous says:

HUH!! I thought the had their ‘launch’ 2 weeks ago at Grand Harbour!!

    • Anonymous says:

Manifesto Launch. That wasn't available at the Campaign Launch. Two different things; you understand?

    • Anonymous says:

That was just a preview of coming attractions. They're trying to detoxify all the grossly intoxicated UDP worshippers in Cayman. Don't look now but I think it might finally be working.

    • Anonymous says:

Ummm… I think they launched their campaign and introduced their candidates at that time. At the time that there were screams that we did not hear of plans and policies to address the challenging issues that face. That is what a manifesto is all about.

    • Anonymous says:

OMG!  You mean they are late with this too!  Always a day late and a dollar short.  They had more time than anyone else to prepare theirs.  Is that the kind of leadership we want?  They couldn't even see the freight train of the economic meltdown we had in 2008.  They will probably just copy the UDP's beautiful manifesto.  Watch!

      • Anonymous says:

Was that your church mckeeva gave our two million to? Or do you own shares in Cohen and GLF and CHEC and the For Cayman Alliance? Or maybe your real name is Ryan? Or Killa? Or maybe you're a pastor for one of those other churches? Or maybe you got a free upgrade on your jamaican passport to a Cayman one? Or perhaps you got a new fridge or something? Or maybe your CUC bill isn't high enough yet? Or maybe you just haven't thought about your childrens future? Or could it be you just haven't been robbed on the street or in your own home yet? God help Cayman. And please deliver us from its lunatics.

        • Anonymous says:

I dunno. Maybe they all attend the same church or lodge or something? It's a mystery, that's all we can know for sure.

      • SSM345 says:

Oh boy, Mac's deluded minions typing away again….so 13:46, perhaps you can explain the typo in their beautiful manifesto where it says there is a surplus?

Because nowhere in the world can you make 500 million, spend over 600 million and then have a surplus.

You will also note in their manifesto that its just a reprint of the last one and look where we find ourselves now….

The stupidity of the UDP and its supporters is truly mind boggling.

  13. Anonymous says:

    I'll be there!

  14. Anonymous says:

Say what you want about the PPM. But one thing you can never say is that at no time did you ever open the news paper and saw PPM and corruption in the same headline of any story!

    • Anonymous says:

Your comment is typical of all PPM supporters. The PPM strategy is very evident this election… ‘Vote for us because we aren’t the UDP’. And that might be enough for some but if you think that strategy is going to be enough to put the PPM back in power you are sadly mistaken. Cayman has gotten smarter since you were last in office. We’re on to you. We see your steady use of buzz words like integrity, honesty and transparency but when it comes to solutions you all are at a lost for words. Cayman is going to vote for independents in 2013

      Dr. Sayeed????????????????

      • Anonymous says:

'Dr.' Sayed has nothing to do with the PPM. He was hired during the UDP's first term in office.

nice to know that Kenneth is willing to work with UDP if elected.. he said it himself on the Panel

    • Rrp says:

Kenneth has no business being an mla!

    • Anonymous says:

Kenneth will not have to worry about that one – because the UDP will not be forming any Government now or ever again in these Cayman Islands.  Kenneth will be with the rest of the Progressives!!

    • Anonymous says:

That's bound to solidify PPM support for him ; <).

It makes him sound like an opportunist.

    • Anonymous says:

C4C studies must be saying that Kenneth Bryan is strong in GT why they are trying single him out like that. Now they trying to say he is UDP. Don’t you see that makes him even stronger that the UDPers will vote for him too. That strategy is gonna back fire on you C4C. You all are sad group……
