Misick’s brother denies plea bargain for political dirt

| 06/08/2013

(CNS): Former Turks and Caicos Islands premier Michael Misick has reportedly dismissed regional reports that the was in plea bargain negotiations with the American authorities and TCI’s Special Investigation and Prosecution Team (SIPT), using his alleged knowledge of wrongdoing by other politicians in the region, including Cayman, as leverage. In a letter to his brother, Phillip Misick, written on 1 August from his Brazilian jail cell, the former premier described the allegations as "bull s!!t". According to the TCI Sun newspaper in TCI, Misick claimed the allegations were designed to further destroy him and that he has had no talks with UK or US officials.

Phillip Misick told the TCI Sun that "British operatives” were continuing to spread propaganda and lies about his brother.

"What a lot of people don't know is that Mike was re-arrested because the British and the SIPT lied to the Brazilian authorities and told them that Mike has applied to Argentina for political asylum and was considering going there,” Philip Misick told the Sun. “That was not true at all, but that was the reason why they denied his asylum appeal. The Brits and SIPT did that; just like how they lied to the Brazilian authorities by telling them that Mike was charged in the Turks and Caicos Islands and skipped the country, when up to this day he has not been charged with a single offence," he added.

Misick, who is awaiting the outcome of extradition hearings regarding alleged government corruption during his time as TCI’s leader, said he was waiting for a court date for his case to be decided. He was arrested in Rio de Janeiro in 7 December 2012 while trying to board a plane after an Interpol warrant was issued. Misick is wanted for questioning by the SIPT team in relation to the ongoing investigation that arose from a commission of inquiry in 2009, but he has not yet been charged with any offence.

Phillip Misick denied the reports of a plea bargain saying his brother had not even “been approached by them” and he has no information that he has done anything wrong in America.

Misick family had money and power long before he ran for politics.  The Misick family is one of influence in TCI and did not need politics to become wealthy and this is a fact ask any Turks Islander.  Michael was a real estate agent and later became the manager of the company back in the day when Real Estate the world over was at its peak.  One real estate transaction was able to make him a millionaire in the 1990 when the real estate market in TCI was red hot and millionaires from all over the world were buying real estate in TCI like candy.

    Very interesting.

Tell me, do you think the war criminal Tony Blair would like "being in jail"?

Does it 'make sense' to you that Tony Blair has contravened international laws in regards to sovereignty, crimes against humanity and illegal invasion?

It is clear to everyoe that Misick will get his just desserts if he has done wrong. However, past leaders like Bush and Blair, whose actions have led to the slaughter of hundreds of thousands of people – affecting millions in the process thereby placing both you and I in harms way … they get off scot free.

Until western leaders are brought to justice and its citizens humble themselves as equal partners within humanity regardless of nationality – they will never be respected.

Never haveI defended the name of Michael Misick, however I scoff at this international hoopla as it pales in significance to far greater injustices. Personally, I cannot sincerely regard the case against Misick in the face of it all.

Nevertheless, for many of you Misick is the Dr. Evil of modern times and feel as if securing a conviction will right all the wrongs of the diplomatic and political world.

Meanwhile, Tony Blair is making millions in the very country that he illegally invaded and carried out war crimes.

How is that not corruption … of the highest and most despicable order??!!

    Give me a kcufing break.

"Why some assumptions are more readily forwarded and accepted than others is beyond me."

Yes, but it is not beyond me. The reason why some assertions are more readily "forwarded and accepted" than others is because they accord with assumptions that are known to be true. In other words, because they 'make sense'. Thus, they are believed to be more likely true than false until the contrary is shown.

In this case, the acts Michael Misick is accused of contravene the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which is a US federal statute. So it is plausible and indeed probable that he is negotiating with the US authorities. The information he has will be more valuable to them than just having him in jail. We know that people do not like being in jail. Michael Misick is a person. Therefore, we can assume he does not like being in jail and is therefore probably negotiating with the US authorities.

Why would you disgrace Santa by using his name in the same post as Mac  and the two brothers?  You should be ashamed!!

Yes Mista Misick because we would want our dear old Politicians to be wrapped up in your little mess and to besmerch their "good" name since that is the only reason why some of our fool fool voters consistently elect these good men of high integrity.Oh but you got them sweating and wondering eh! those days of free cash in hotel rooms are gone too??

  7. Whodatis says:

    Come on Misick brothers!

You already know what is going to happen here.

The majority of readers, having already concluded that last week's news reports were accurate, will today reject any and every claim that works against painting you in the guilty and negative colors.

Why some assumptions are more readily forwarded and accepted than others is beyond me.

Funny how that works, isn't it?

Mike, I reiterate – if ever you rise to power again – try your best to become a war criminal of these modern times … they all seem to be living it up as the world turns a blind eye.

    May justice prevail.

Two parts troll, three parts flamer, net effect is yet another disappointingly weak effort by "Whodatis".  I think he should give up if this is the best he can do nowadays.

Yes, most did believe the reports were accurate.

      Why?

      1) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_Corrupt_Practices_Act

      2) Because newspapers don't generally just make things up. They go to extraordinary lengths to find the truth, yes, and might embellish or dramatise it, but they don't make it up. They can be sued for that.

Whodatis, whose justice should prevail? Yours or the real worlds?

      • Anonymously says:

I would prefer Whodatis justice to rule other than the status quo because Whodatis can think for himself he was one of the first to question with logic anything that is said without taking it all as John's gospel. Those who refuse to acknowledge history will repeat the same mistakes.  I am very pro British but I'm also cognizant of history and the failures of humans.

  8. 4 Cayman says:

Would like to know who is dirty in Cayman. Spit it out Misick!

    • Anonymous says:

You already know who is guilty in Cayman, all you need is proof!

It seems more likely that the earlier reports are wrong, it is difficult to see why the US are involved. Shame though, because we need the truth to be out both in TCI and in Cayman, and these protestations of innocence by Misicks brother seem to be stupid, if he is innocent, how did he get so rich on a politicians money, and why did he run?
