CCTV nabs political vandal
(CNS): Updated with correction — The person who is believed to have drawn an eye-patch and beard on North Side independent candidate Ezzard Miller’s campaign poster appears not to be a teen prankster but a grown man. Police confirmed Friday that a 44-year-old man was arrested on 4 May on suspicion of damage to property. It is understood that the culprit was nabbed after he appeared on the local CCTV footage vandalizing the poster. In an ironic twist, it was Miller who led the campaign in his district to raise the cash and have the cameras installed in his constituency, long before government began its own installation. However, it was the naitonal CCTV camera's rather than those installed by Miller's fundraising efforts that nabbed the suspect vandal.
The suspect vandal has since been released from police custody on bail, an RCIPS spokesperson said, noting that a file was being prepared for the Legal Department and it would be up to the director of public prosecutions to decide whether charges should be laid against the individual. Police did not say if the suspect was a resident or a voter in the district.
Following news of the arrest, Miller congratulated the police and said he was glad to hear that the cameras were working and had assisted the officers on the case.
Miller is not the only victim of campaign vandalism as several PPM posters and PNA boards are also understood to have been vandalized. An entire poster for C4C candidate Winston Connolly was stolen from the Linford Pierson Highway.
According to the law, anyone convicted of political vandalism can serve as much as six years in jail or face a $5,000 fine and police have said they are committed to pressing charges.

looks like someone FINALLY got a chance to play CSI with the national CCTV.
This seriously upsets me. We have so many other issues going on in our country and Police actually take the time for this! After next Wednesday those signs will probably be destroyed anyway so somebody just started earlier. The effort put in to all of this should be used to solve much more serious crimes and the money donated to organization that are actually doing something for the country!
All I can say is GOD help us after next week if this is what we are looking forward to for another 4 years!
That tie is criminal.
Ezzy kinda looks like Johnny Depp in this pic. What you guys think?
I'm glad Ezzard's CCTV cameras are protecting nation assets. "Ezzards Campaign Billboards"
oh yes 22.52! Typical of most politicians, deface their image and every resource thrown at the problem, whilst drunkdrivers, muggers, home invaders don't warrant a second look. As with most things in Cayman political life, the priorities are all wrong and until that changes nothing else will.
Man, I wish I could catch the person stealing my sprinkler heads so quickly. Never mind, I'll get you next time. Hope it really hurts.
Glad to see so many humourous comments on the incident. Humour, and wit, seem to be in such short supply in our political landscape. Thanks to all who saw the funny side of it!
Oh Ezzard, you had me at eye patch. 😛
Well its nice to know the police caught the vandal. They must only work when it suits them. About 9 months ago an underage girl ran into the back of my SUV right in front of a CCTV camera. got back in to the car and then proceeded to drive recklessly from the scene. The police checked the camera tape and got everything. To this day she has not been charged. I had to fix my vehicle from my pocket..
Was it Joey?
Joey can't reach that high unless he found someone to give him a "cash advance" to buy a ladder.
Joey can get that high without a ladder (although the cash advance might help).
Contender for best post ever on CNS.
Human beings are really strange creatures. Some claim that police are not doing enough to fight crime but when theysolve a crime that is committed against Ezzard's property, they are criticized and mocked because these people do not like Ezzard .However if Ezzard had been caught on camera vandalising someone else's property ,these same people would be asking that he be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
Really? This was that important to warrant cctv – ridiculous!! I can think of so many other things that money could be used to do. How about donating it to families in need?
I love that mark up on Ezzard! That was good, why arrest the guy? He should be given a pait brush!
No, I hardly think the CCTV was installed in the anticipation of Ezzard being made into a pirate by some scoundrel, my dear. (An interesting theory, however.)
WTH – where do these comments come from. The camera was not put to protect the sign dummy. Donate what ? The video, the sign, or the 44 year old?
LOL …
well at least it shows how he may look like if he should become Premier
Great that they nabbed this dangerous satirical cartoonist. It would be nice if all this CCTV detective work were put into serious crime. Funny how these cameras never seem to operate when real crime takes place.
Actually I thought the artistic additions make Ezzard look quite swashbuckling and a little sexy overall.
It makes him look like a comedy figure, which is appropriate.
CIG, CNS please publish the footage.
Ezzard has achieved another plus for him and the community. They caught the man vandalizing his political poster . So we know the CCTV are money well spent for Northside. He's a man of his word honest and serving the public. A true leader.
What has anybody else done for the benefit of Northside who are trying to stand in this election? What ?
It is so good to know that the huge investment in CCTV has proved such good value for money, (VFM, the new buzzword) thank goodness we have caught such a henieous criminal…… 😉
Excellent news. Please, let's have more cameras throughout the island asap.
This is why Ezzard should be Premier. The man knows his stuff. Now disclose the name of the perp. XXXX
He should have smiled for the camera, he’s real smart lol! About time rcip use these expensive cameras!
Looks like an improvement to the original poster.
LOL, c'mon, it's a little funny right?
Were they able to identify any of the UDP vandals?
44 years old? Nah it couldn't be mac. Besides, he's in enough trouble with the courts already.
Congratulations Ezzie, losing one eye didn't stop you from spotting the loser.
Again, Ezzard has shown he is able to get things done, with results!!
Does anyone really care, my boys thought it was very entertaining. The fact that Mr Miller is more worried that the Police investigate his defacement rather than laying out his plans to tackle crimes in his district speaks volumes. What's even funnier is the fact that now this picture has been posted on line, the whole world can see it!
Does anyone care?
You bet we do, it may seem frivolous to you perp, but to us in north side its important that we get a real knowledgeable man to represent us in our district. We have been trying to keep the bums out but they keep showing up, so this time the cctv's that was said to be fruitless in solving crime has proven again that he's right.
We must celebrate another four years of success in north side, so now all we have to do is keep the varmonts out. WE will, we will rock north side.
And what about the ones you have up there already, as in your fellow northsiders….what? you think they all saint??? plzzzz….ignorant mule!
When they broke into my house, I was told they could not check the camera's because it would be an issue with privacy rights.
I guess for a politician there are other rules.
When they broke into your house.
Tell the truth, when approached about using the cameras at some of the houses you all didnt want them in your yards or roofs, So take what you get. Next time cooperate with them.
Ok, that's great. We have caught an idjut putting an eyepatch on Ezzard. That certainly justifies the many thousands of dollars CCTV costs.
I look forward to the police taking action against the vandal. As for Winston’s poster, my bet is it’s on a teenage girl’s bedroom wall!
"old pirates, yes they rob I."
He looks rather fetching.
You know, if this had happened to Bill Clinton he's have seized the opportunity and appeared with an eye patch and goatee next public appearance!
