Gender equality comes to British throne

| 28/10/2011

(BBC): More than a thousand years of royal history will have to change to give daughters and sons equal rights to become Britain's monarch. What's more, all 16 countries which have the Queen as head of state must change their legislation too.Government experts admit they are still examining just which laws need to alter. They have drawn up a list of nine dating back 1689 – but they admit it may not be exhaustive. One problem is that male primogeniture – which gives younger brothers the right to become monarchs ahead of their elder sisters – is based on many centuries of common law rules of property, not any one piece of legislation.

Legislation being looked at includes: the Bill of Rights 1689, the Act of Settlement 1701, the Coronation Oath Act 1689, the Act of Union with Scotland 1706, Princess Sophia's Precedence Act 1711, the Royal Marriages Act 1772, the Union with Ireland Act 1800, the Accession Declaration Act 1910 and the Regency Act 1937.

I'll take the Queen over your alternative.

So when is Cayman going to vote a woman as Premier?

  3. Yo Mama says:

    How ridiculous.

An institution that is based purely in inequality tweaks its rules to seem more modern? Absurd. The entire concept of royal people is idiotic.

Are we supposed to be impressed because they made this move toward gender equality? Now a female royal has an equal chance of being superior to "lower" people because of her bloodline? Wow, how impressive.

How about human equality? How about the royal family addresses the radical idea that no person is more special than another based only on which womb they come out of? That would be real progress.

I know… sounds just like Cayman doesn't it? Oh no wait, the monachy are progressing….

      • Dennie Warren Jr. says:

And the monarchy progresses because they force others into submission.  Democratic isn’t it?

    • Dennie Warren Jr. says:

      It is ridiculous.

    At long last.

And the Queen woke up one morning and asked:

    "What century is this?"

  6. Anonymous says:

I thought gender equality meant little boys could become Queen, or little girls could become King, if they so wished.

    • Anonymous says:

There are lots of little English boys who want to be Queen.

      • Anonymous says:

Percentage wise, there will be just as many Caymanian boys too…although I am sure you will never admit it.

  7. The Prophet says:

18:03    The Prophet says leave that alone, it is the Cayman culture to address persons in this manner.  It only relates in a gentle way, that they either respect or love you very much.  It can be, and has been used in an affectionate way to personal relations, but on the other hand it is also used to address someone they hold high respect for.  The receiver and the giver can usuall tell and know the difference.  Some Caymanians will also say" yes mommy, or yes Papi, or yes aunty, and you are no family to them at all.  So I suggest leave that right where it is.

  8. Whodatis says:

The "civilised" world continues to assassinate Brown, Muslim terrorists as it celebrates and honors the legacies and deeds of White, Christian terrorists … I don't get it.

If I am meant to "respect" Lizzie and Charles then logic suggests that I ought to hold Saddam, Osama and Gaddafi in the same esteem – no?

    * Interestingly, all 3 of those "bad guys" combined couldn't even scratch the surface of the amount of terrorism and inhumanity committed in order to hoist the "royal family" to their current position.

The concept of the royal family could not be of lesser significance to me.

As far as I am concerned, in these modern times, every man and woman is a King and Queen onto himself and herself respectively – anything less than that and we are guaranteed dangerous inequality in this world.

    Regards,

    H.R.M. King Whodatis

    • Polly Tricks says:

      What about the Chagossians, W?

      • Whodatis says:

        What Chagossians?

Haven't you heard? There is no such thing as a "Chagossian".

Yes, the White members (don't cringe for that point is of fundamental relevance) at the top of their class-corrupted society decided that due to their Black and Brown skin they were not worthy British citizens after all.

Also, their Royal Queen appointed OBE regarded them as simple sub-human primates hence their birthright, homes, country and sense of existence was rightly removed.

I am sorry to have to break the news to you this way buddy – would have preferred a proper sit-down over some tea and crumpets … you know, in the good old fashioned British tradition.

Hmmm … I wonder if the "Chagossians" drank tea as well?

Does anyone know? Maybe I should shoot an email to historian David Starky CBE, FSA and "cc" to John Terry? Surely one of these fine and upstanding British gentlemen ought to know – no?

        :o)

        • Polly Tricks says:

My goodness, this is all news to me.  Is there a way I can find out more, perhaps a book or a film that lets me understand what happened from an objecive viewpoint?

          • Whodatis says:

It is what it is buddy.

Facts are facts, history is history.

            This is not rocket science.

            • Anonymous says:

Those who win the war write the history. Whodatis, you should know that!

              • Whodatis says:

                1. I am aware of this fact. Unfortunately, many individuals are unaware that they are grossly misinformed in regards to history. However, most worrying of all is the fact that many of these same individuals don't seem to care and in fact bask in their ignorance. (As demonstrated on a daily basis right here on CNS.)

                2. Why should I know that though?

I, nor my people, have ever been on either side of any "war". The Chagossians surely were not at war with anyone either but clearly that did not protect them from their inhumane fate.

                3. What sort of a government engages in "war" with its own peaceful, law-abiding and faraway / overseas citizens anyway?

A British type of government I guess.

                How nice.

                * Btw, I just wanted to point out that not a single poster have refuted a word of my post. Nothing but ad hominens all around. Your mothers would be oh so proud!

                • Hallowe'en Jack says:

But where do we find the truth about the Chagossians?  A poster above asked you for some guidance on that and you ignored them completely.  I would like to find out more.

So you and 18 other others think the situation of the Chagossians is amusing? Now we know why they were treated the way they were. Just "Man Fridays" after all.

  9. Anonymous says:

Next thing you knoew they will be letting women vote!
